My understanding from personality hacker is the Se function has to do with Image management. It makes sense ENTJ would dress nicer than INTJ because of se being little higher in stack. There is an ISFP lady I have seen on youtube. she has se even higher in her stack plus has that dominant fi so she is good with color and expressing herself in her personal presentation. Personally as INTJ i have issue with shoes even in later middle age. I feel inauthentic is dress shoes and suits so I could neve adjust to that. I could never be around people that dress that way either.
@@GhostofJung My first thought if its a male is they have to be uncomfortable and wonder how they could be comfortable. I might also think those with really nice shoes as being self absorbed and vain. Generally I would stay away from "suits".(movie reference: 'The Secret of my Success"). From your story I can see the binary nature of se showing itself. From really bad dressing to totally maybe over dressing. All that being said if I met you in person and knew your dress code back story I wouldn't think negative of you. :) Unfortunatly for me though my uncomfortableness with high dress code means I would never succeed in the corporate world while you would.
I'm a 29yo INTJ female, and I think I struggled for a very long time with the Fe, but kind of in the opposite way from what you expressed in the video. For me, I was trying to blend in, be normal, fit within my peer group, and be feminine. But I failed. I could not understand the timing, or the trends, or the value of it. So then, I found my own style. I'm more masculine. I like bold contrasts, and yes, black is very slimming and dynamic, functional and makes laundry easy. I like blazers, dress shirts, and ties too. I like athletic wear, and I will shop in mens and womens clothing sections and at thrift shops, whatever, because I like pockets (and sometimes female clothing is stupid, thin, and poorly designed). I will never be the epitome of good looks, good genetics, fit and fashion, but I do alright and I like myself.
"I do alright and I like myself", what a quote to end it. Also love that you rock the blazer...they look great on women and it doesn't just have to be in the professional setting.
Great topic! My cat ran around in a rage when your son screamed in the video so thank him for the laugh. I've always been aware of the importance of your outfit because I grew up in an area where it'll be a bad day if you wear the wrong color or the newest shoes. Still, I never really care about how I dressed and didn't realize I didn't go shopping much even as an adult because my siblings would buy my wardrobe for me during christmas. I think I only went shopping once in 5 years because I needed a suit for work. As weird as this may sound, I purposely dress down when I'm not at work because it easily weeds out people that I don't want to associate with. I've had a person straight up walk away from our conversation when I told her that I wasn't working or in school (because the quarter didn't start yet). Long story short, agreed that your fit matters a lot more than most INTJs are aware of. In terms of best dressed, Si doms and Fi doms. Si because they know what's popular, and Fi because they're always so cute.
An old book from the 80s I came across is called "Color for Men" which groups men into "seasons" and there are also sub-seasons. So you can be a Cool Winter, Warm Autumn, etc. From these categories, the book suggests good colors and shades thereof, patterns, finishes, and the like for clothing, suits, and accessories. There are also solid-color and pattern rules, such as: between the shirt, suit jacket, and tie, only a maximum of two can be patterned (you can just go with all three solid). Patterns should involve some color element from each other but not be too matchy-matchy as that looks childish. Pocket squares should NOT match the shirt or tie. It's a nice system for an INTJ man. Joe seems like a Winter and so should go with very strong colors, large patterns, geometric patterns, and the like. If something is blue, don't go with baby blue, go for navy or midnight blue. Dark charcoal is best for suits. No club ties. Nothing woven-looking. No brown, cream, orange, or pastels. Joe has a "severe" look to him and shouldn't wear stuff that washes him out visually. I'm personally not a fan of pictures or slogans on clothing. Color for Men, and color theory in general, argues that what looks good on a person is a matter of objective truth. So someone whose hair and complexion make them a Spring, etc should not be dressing like a typical INTJ even if they are an INTJ. You are giving others a suboptimal visual experience of you. I love tailoring and would love to have a completely tailored wardrobe.
I love the t-shirt ! Not easy to find clothes which are both practical/confortable and which please us. We can wear all black and have a very correct style ^^ _I started to care a little more about clothes in 2010 at University : I always wore black boots, black jean, black or grey shirt, and t-shirt : black, grey, indigo/saphir or light green/mint _ Total black look with pink or blue scarf. _At jobs I tried to add more colors like pant (indigo/saphir or light green/mint or blue jean), white shirt, light rainbow shirt, golden sandals. A coworker told me the black fit me better. _A look/style which function everywhere that I wore often at university and work : the all black look : shoes (baskets or boots), jean, shirt, t shirt : black, grey, blue or green (I always prefer bright colors, or pastel) _My last work, I also loved to have a total light grey look, or sometimes white t-shirt with black shirt, or black t-shirt with white shirt, or even wear 2 shirts, 1 white, 1 black to be more confortable, more warm. I liked too wear a t shirt indigo, green, yellow or orange (but always bright or pastel) I like too the total black look with golden or silver sandal when the weather is warm. Actually I am more in the total black, boots/basket, black jean, black/grey/blue hoodie. I just feel more my authentic self like this, and cause less stress, take less time. I don't want to try anymore to dress like others, or like other want me to dress : I am feel so weird, so not me, I feel fake, it stress me, my brain don't like, I feel something wrong, and it cause stress. Let me dress in my weird way : total black most of the time, total grey, and sometimes bright or pastel colors/rainbow, silver/gold. I think it's a mechanism of out brain, the outside reflect the inside, what we wear reflect our personality. When we wear clothes which don't correspond to us, to our personality, to what we like, we are uncomfortable, we feel like we are not ourselves. We notice it when someone is not comfortable in his clothes and himself. I think only the sensors judge others people according to their body and what they wear. I noticed no one care how I dressed, it's rare people tell us that they like or not what we wear, what they think most of the time stay in their head. Don't fit in, by pleasing to others people, we please to the persons who don't correspond to us. The INTJ authenticity : I am different, I want to be different, my own way ^^ I think all INTJ will always add their little personal touch, a little original or quirky thing or accessory which make them unique, their own sense of style.
As a 28 yo INTJ, I haven’t figured out how to dress properly yet. I love comfortably and colourful clothes and I always fight with my boyfriend/mum/sister on how I should dress. Basically I know that I reached the age at which I should give up my oversized lime green hoodies and Air Force one, but I just don’t want to. Also, I consider myself free from the gender binarism laws, and to dress properly has a lot to do with performing a defined gender. I don’t want to substitute my colorful hoodie with a sad grey tailleur, I just can’t imagine myself wrapped in that kinda things…but I feel people around me, who care about me, would like to see me dressed in a more “adult” way. Is this a childish dilemma?
It's perfectly aligned with our Fi child function which is very stubborn. I understand what you mean by dressing properly conforms to a stereotype that you don't want to play into. Have you tried dressing the way people want you to?
This may sound ignorant, but why not do both? Keep the lime green hoodie and stuff you like, but also put on the stuff they want you to wear sometimes?
Don’t think anyone still cares, TH-cam notified me only today, but if you do I’m answering both questions: yes, I tried to dress up in a socially acceptable way for my age and yes, I did that by switching those clothes and mine. It just doesn’t work! You know those little raincoats people make dogs wear? Exact same effect 😂
'Dressing well' is still utilitarian, just not in the comfortable way necessarily, but rather professionally/socially. Wearing a watch primarily serves this latter purpose, as you well mentioned, for example.
