I always feel such sadness that all of Mick's experience and knowledge went with him.
I know he has written up a lot of stuff, trained lots of young archaeologists, but all that knowledge gone... A great tragedy.

I was part of the Time Team excavation crew (1999 - 2001) and found Tony Robinson to be a very pugnacious individual. I can recall him accusing Phil Harding of idleness in a bid to elicit a confrontation. Harding was in a particularly irritable mood -- as his new trench turned out to be a dud -- and he launched his trowel at Tony missing him by inches. In response, Tony grabbed a handful of topsoil and hurled it at Harding peppering him about the eyes and face. Harding attempted to rush Tony, but tripped as he scuffed the trench wall with his footing. Tony quickly retreated to the safety of his Range Rover and began to taunt Harding from the vehicle interior. Harding had to be physically restrained by 5 crew members and escorted from the site. As he was lead away, Tony lowered the vehicle window and bellowed: ''Your shorts have split, you absolute specimen!", followed by a raucous belly laugh. It was like this for the majority of my time there.

I worked in a club in the west end of London around that time. I found many celebrities to be very abrasive, arrogant and condescending whereas only a very few were lovely.

I have heard reports of Tony R spending all his time in the 4wd, totally uninterested in what was going on, then he'd get the whistle and trot out, looking interested and enthusiastic, as an actor could do.
I have on occasion, heard him spouting theories and thought, "I bet somebody has just explained all that to you..."
It is typical that the honours system gives him a prize and ignores Mick and Phil, Carenza, etc. Earlyish on, Mick, who was so calm and egoless, clearly thought very little of Tony. A couple of times, Mick introduced him as Tony Robins.
Most of these academics are just wanting to dig and research. Tony was like an annoying fly you have to put up with, in order to get your work done.
It really makes me shake my head, when I read the besotted mentions of Tony. And they actually forced new Time Team to ask him back, I imagine from pressure of patrons.
There have been a few conversations with him, nothing to do with Time Team, and you wouldn't fight to sit next to him on a bus...
I would say there have been about 12 people who have worked on digs with Time Team, who all comment on Tony and it isn't flattering.

Wow, that's terrible. I wonder if having these experiences and knowledge takes away from the enjoyment of the episodes, (though I imagine it may make watching those "worst jobs in history" a bit more enjoyable). I've always really enjoyed the discovery, or rediscovery more accurately, of the ancient past. Tony sounds like the proverbial fly in the ointment. Makes me appreciate the archeologists that much more though.

I’ve been a TT viewer for decades. Being a Yank, I was happily treated to so many personalities digging in the “muck” as Phil would say, that I was much more interested in the crew with Tony tieing up loose ends. Phil, Mick, Francis Pryor, Stewart, Matt and Rackshaw (sp?), John and his geofizz were the stars of the shows along with a fabulous cast of experts and other diggers of course, including Paul that hot biker pottery bloke! Tony was a typical “B” actor trying to steal screen time.

Sounds like that nasty little character he played on "Man Down" was typecasting.

Is this one of the Gibbs house? I remember hearing that it was a tutor style house and Henry the 8th stayed there often with other royalties. It was Robins house GBH. I went to the last concert Barry had. I laughed and cried and got to hear how well their children were musically. Barry said honestly he was the only one that felt Australian in the group as they made it in Aussie first……Sitting together having a cuppa that in 2hrs they wrote 6 songs. They were all in the latest disco movie “ fever night, fever night, fever” “ where is ur love” I can’t think of the others. We knew they were British as they were piling up all the awards from Aussie & from the British music awards. They are all gone now MayTRIPeace.
