By popular demand, we've compiled Days 1, 2 and 3 of this recent Time Team dig into one newly updated feature-length video. Join us for a special watch-along on Saturday 28th October at 7pm BST.
I keep trying to like the new Time Team. After all, I still haven't come to like Tony Robinson. I enjoy the old members who show up in the new Time Team.
@@debravanausdale1063 Could not agree more. That the producers managed to locate all these academic types who are just overflowing with charisma is simply amazing.
Ah, but will he drink as much ale, and will he don funny hats? All in this video have future roles to grow into - with livelier personalities - as long as we can keep the Patreon supporting them.
To all fellow Time Team fans. We should not compare the old Time Team with the new. The old Time Team was backed by a major TV channel. Anyone who saw the first series of Time Team should remember all the characters that we all know and loved took time to develop and we need to give the new guys time to do that too.
I appreciate the characters of both, the experience & knowledge the original TT crew brings, along with the new tech & knowledge the new crew brings. Together they have a fresh & cohesive energy, offering something to each other & the project. Also, I don't see them as 'Old Time Team' as they aren't old, in my opinion they're the Original TT crew. I'm enjoying discovering the personalities of new members... and I, like you, hope people give them time to adjust to the stress of '3 days', working in front of the cameras.
As long as it is as it's done constructively ...respectfully and realistically I don't think it should be a problem .... but given human nature you are correct that it is best avoided.... and if new time goes as long as the original version *( and I so hope it does atleast that)* then they will settle in to there own rhythm.
For me, one of the highlights of the last years has been the return of Time Team . Watching it, I am simply overwhelmed at the high production quality, especially considering they are completely independent and not backed by any big network. It's astounding! The passion and love for what they do is evident in both the old and new members, and it's a joy to watch. Big thanks to everybody around the world contributing on Patreon to make this possible! ❤ You're the true MVPs. Love Gus and his soothing voice.
Great episode! Stewart has always been my favorite, I am so impressed by how he can read a landscape. Too bad there was no mill, Mick would have loved a good mill.
If it's one thing I learned from TT, it's never underestimate Corenza's logic, Mick's ability to lead and inspire, Tony's sense of wonder, Phil's skills that pay the bills, John's technical knowhow, Raksha's eye for detail and Victor's artistic touch. Above all though, never, ever, ever underestimate my bois Robin, Stewart and Pryor, for who I can never repay for the contributions they made in my life.
I will admit: despite doing multiple rewatch marathons of the old episodes, I had never before stopped to watch the new ones, fearing it would just not be the same without Tony, Mick, or Phil. I'm glad I was wrong. I do definitely still wish Mick was around to see that Time Team was not, in fact, a success and that he did, in fact leave a lasting legacy, and I also do wish we could see Phill return (and am glad we eventually got Tony back too), but watching this episode for the first time today still makes me feel like reuniting with old friends. The production quality is on the same level as always, the narration is still solid, the archaeological work is still great to see, and it's so nice to see how the experts have further evolved since the old episodes. Thank you for proving me wrong, 'cuz this is a great watch.
You know, there's something rather endearing about Stewart saying three days to do it. I really love Gus. But that just felt really proper. Like it held a sense of continuity.
59:52 A coin master in Nuremberg . . . Wow, watching this in Nuremberg makes me excited and proud. And of course in awe how connected the world always was. Hi from Nürnberg!! 🥰
I absolutely love Time Team. I have watched every episode from day 1 at least twice. Although I'm born in Canada, my father was born in England, and when ever I watch, I feel like I'm getting to Know him a bit better. I admit I miss Mick, Tony and Phil , but this is still wonderful. Thankyou T.T for carrying on the tradition. ❤🤍❤ 🍁🌹
I am really enjoying the new people as well. They seem to be firing in to the Time Team family. My favourite newbie is Gus he is such a gentle presenter and fully engaged with what’s going on. But they are all good!!
I always liked how Stewart could see the landscape for what was there before. In college with one of my dual major as Forestry, a key professor taught Silviculture. On field trips he would tell us to look at what was possibly there before. Forests grew over old farm lands. Natural drainage determined the types of trees and plants , etc. These are the types of things Stewart’s shrewd eye sees in a landscape.
@@kcbowman4042 I don’t know if you know the professor I had, a brilliant man that loved debates in class and would never put you down unless you were a sycophant. B.B.Stout. His monograph on roots of trees at Harvard’s Black Rock Forest is great. It was to disapprove the notion of tap roots in trees.
I've been advocating for museums like this for awhile now. We should be making 3D imaged, 3D printed, and other copies of what is currently in museums so the public can spin, zoom in, handle, and otherwise interact with antiquities. It would also allow museums with "collected" items from other cultures to *give them back*. (Parthenon bits, Native American pieces, and Benin bronzes come to mind...)
Virtual museums and intricate high quality copies definitely have a place in the world now and going forward. But they also pose dangers that have played out before..... as technology progresses new things can be learned from the originals that could never have been known of in the past and somewhere far far down the line the copies are misunderstood to be the originals and that is used as evidence for the historical facts being hoaxed..... both of which have already occurred in times past... as much as I like the concept and idea there's sadly no replacement for the genuine article.
I have been in at least one museum that does both. The original object is on display, but a tablet with a virtual representation is also available to provide additional information, etc. for those who are interested.
I didnt realize my old friends were back for more! Im so happy to see some of you again! And Carenza is back! It feels like a homecoming and I will watch your new time teams with greed.
Another to add to the great classic Time Teams. It definitely looks like the team has hit their stride and are producing great things. You just can't beat Stewart with his " Big thoughts." As Mic always called them.
I'm so happy to see Time Team coming back and continuing to do digs and research using the latest tech (shoutout to lidar!!!) and share them with the public! It's great to see some of our old friends back again! ^_^
I have and always will love Time Team no matter who the players are….the Archeology, the presenting, formatting, cinematography, editing and every aspect of this programme are first rate !
Oh my gosh, that pub scene was spectacular! That completely drew me into the next day's possibilities and gave me a sweet remembrance of the original show doing the same. Thank you for that!
I've watched Time Team from day one. It was a must see in our house, every Sunday! The team were old friends, I was gutted when it ended. Then I see they're trying to resurrect it again, but with Mick and Victor gone, that's a big ask! HOWEVER, whilst I'm not as comfortable YET with Time Team Next Gen, I think it will do ok. I'm really not sure about the cheesy "virtual museum" idea, though the rest is really good! Great to see Carenza back along with John and the incomparable Stuart!
Indeed. I like the idea of the virtual museum. Maybe a simple virtual fly-around with some commentary rather than Gus looking at objects which clearly aren't there would be more effective. VR is obviously the way to go in order to 'bring the past into the future' ( as a certain presenter said in an earlier new episode) so just a few tweaks to the format might make it feel more satisfactory. In general I like the direction the channel is going in - paying homage to Time Team's past whilst pushing forward with new ideas and using technology to compensate for the lower budget. As for Carenza, it's nice seeing her again working alongside Helen (who replaced her completely from Se13 onwards) and looking more relaxed in front of the cameras.
and its worth noting they never stopped being professional archaeologists. if you look at their works from 2013 to now its a huge huge catalog of contributions to UK archaeology.
Stuart’s got a real feel for those lumps and bumps you almost don’t need radar when he’s there And it’s fantastic to see that matts luck in trenches carries on ! Want to find something in a trench ….throw Matt into it !
I am happy time team is still going on , but the rumour is Tony is coming back. It would be great if Tony teamed up with Gus, he’s doing great but needs to be skeptical and question these archaeologists. Be on the spot and involved. Seeing Phil on the site as a advisor would warm my heart, his knowledge is a gift and his personality is endearing. Raksha and a lot of the others would be nice to see!🙂 Yeah, I’m just being nostalgic, you are doing a great job! 🙂
tony said in an interview on the time team official youtube channel hes more partial to documentaries than three day digs. if you look up his imdb hes done a good number of archaeology docus aside from time team. Im very partial to his docu "the true da vinci code" in which he compares fact to dan browns fiction. he also did a short series of walking britains classic roads, among others. his presenting career is much wider than onlytime team. And Phil was busy doing the battle of waterloo dig, and as i understand it is now mostly retired as his knees and back are wrecked after fifty digging seasons. Hes got a public email at wessex archaeology if you want to inquire as to his current works.
The staff are wonderful, but of course many are missed. Thank you to all that are involved. I do hope the young Medic is involved in future shows he did a great job. Stuart is right about lovely lumps and bumps.
If You liked the old Time Team check out the newest Time Team. They are in the process of creating a virtual museum. In this museum you can pick up the artifacts and look at them from any angle! Now imagine picking up King Tuts mask or the Hope diamond and doing that! Wow !:-)
What a very pleasant reboot. It was great to see so many familiar faces. And while I admittedly miss bloodhound Phil Harding, a show devoid of Tony Robinson's manufactured tension, drama and snark should be very successful indeed. Good luck crew.
ABSOLUTELY! We will continue to support them as they present new, exciting digs and adventures. It’s truly wonderful having Time Team return with new faces and tech…yet…they have kept a similar format and many of the dear archaeologists and support team we dearly love and appreciate! Welcome back everyone…we are so thrilled to see what you uncover and share with us! Cheers from across the pond!🇨🇦😊🇨🇦
This was so great! All the added visuals and virtual museum were fascinating additions to an already wonderful program. The advancements to archeology and to seeing and experiencing history as time goes on is truly amazing. Love the team, having this program back, and seeing everything grow 😊 Very fun episode imo
Wish Time Team would do a Dig at Newland Hall in Wakefield before its too late. It was both a Templar and later a Hospitaller Preceptory and is in danger of being built on.
This is so enjoyable to watch. New people with faces I remember from past episodes. Stewart's wisdom with John's equipment and Matt's knowledge, priceless. Excellent !
I missed the watch-along, but this is great!! I appreciate all the extra links you've posted in the notes as well (...more) Even though I'm a Patron, I still feel that each episode is a gift. Thank you Time Team 🥰
I wish I could go back in time 40 years and study archaeology in the UK. I have watched the old TT episodes many times and am happy to support the new TT on Patreon
I am so overwhelmed with adoration for TT. Helen, Stewart, Matt, Karenza, John, all working together again on a site is so great to watch. Love that they have gone back to the original way of filming where we see the in depth conversations between archeologists and in situ finds. Wish Mick stuck around to see this beautiful program brought back to life via fan funding
I work with a high resolution scanning cmm every day. I wish I could scan some of this stuff for Time Team. I have thought this and vitual museums would be the future. Glad you are making it more of a reality.
@@alexritchie4586 It's unlikely they would want to work with me due to the fact that I am in the US. I imagine they would not want to risk shipping finds to a guy in the states they have never heard of, heh. I would love to help if I could. My current scans are accurate to ±10 µm (0.0004") repeatable to 2 µm. You could scan and then 3D print for study anywhere in the world, or export to CAD. I think this is the future of preservation of finds.
The spindle whorl was a fun find but never would have been “lost while weaving” as that’s a totally different process. It’s more likely to have been played with by some bratty kid who then lost it. Mom was teed off at the kid. “You’d better find that before supper!” and here we are 700+ years later…
I have to admit I came across this and did wonder what was going on. Its great to see it still going. Everyone from the old series, is so much older. Matt especially has lost that kid look.
It is great to see the incorporation of many technology updates (3D printing and photogrammetry, laser scanning), together with the amazing advances in the geophys - compared to the OG TT, where John Gater was wandering around fields with a hand magnetometer!
I miss the original Time Team of Sir Tony Robinson, Mick Aston, Phil Harding, Helen Geake and others, and was VERY dubious about the new line-up. However, things DO evolve over time and this video in particular has proved to be very interesting, educational and just as much fun to watch as any from the first line-up. Well done everyone involved.
I’ve been watching numerous archaeology & historical documentary programs the last while and I’d like to point out that both the old Time Team programs & the newest ones are made for the viewers. There are no complaints of background music overpowering the dialogue. Or scenes that are too dark. Bravo !!
These new digs make me so incredibly happy! I just love Stewart, and John and Carenza and Matt and Naomi and all the new people! I love that there are children being involved. If I knew back then what I know now as a kid, I would’ve stuck with it and became an archaeologists. It has intrigued me my entire life. someday I would love to cross the pond and join one of the digs. That would be a huge dream of mine. Well done time team well done..!!!!
I’ve never liked change , I watched every episode of the original a few times over , the new crew do very well though with some of the original crew , I’ll be watching all the new episodes. great show . Fr Canada 🇨🇦
I began watching this with a certain amount of trepidation (I'm very much a traditionalist and almost always prefer the old to the new in most things), but I found that I really liked it. Of course I miss some of the crew from the old show and some of the new tech took a little getting used to but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very glad to see so many of the people from the earlier show on board. I'll keep watching.
love this, so much detail to discover right there under foot, this is what I love about archeology and related disciplines- digging for the truth, in as much as possible before decideing the puzzle is complete.
Well done. Wonderful to see the team work, integration of state-of-the-art technologies, and good old fashioned "on your knees" scraping. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
While no one could ever replace the OG Time Team crew, with their amazing personalities and fun banter, I think the new team is pretty good. The spirit of TT is still going and that's really the best thing about this show. No matter who is involved, we get inside looks at amazing archaeology and history that we couldn't see before. Plus it's kind of fun to see how far along the geophys tech has come from when they first started the show. The imaging is so much better now than it used to be. Also I like the idea of Gus' virtual museum. I can't drive, so getting around is difficult. A virtual museum I can visit would be such fun to see. Gus maybe doesn't have the energy or the sweet silliness of Sir Tony, but he definitely is a delight to watch and his voice is soothing. So I am going to enjoy both the old and the new TT, appreciate the best of both, and be thankful I have more episodes to watch
Loved the palm. My first job apprentice sailmaker. They got me a lefthanded palm . I only lasted six months then went on to sea. Wish i had stopped to finish my apprenticeship.
I VERY much enjoyed the timeline you have included and refer to other events of the time. Please, include that more often. PS. Glad John got rid of his "flip-key" as a pointer. LOL
I love these digs that follow up the members' hunches! Plus it's great that it's Stewart's baby this time. He's been one of my favorites for his ability to go off exploring on days one and two and then change the game midafternoon day 2 (is there such a thing as Time Team tropes?)
I am enjoying the new episodes very much! Thank you! The new technology is superb. My only issue with the new episodes is the tone of everyone's voice - so calm, so sleepy, monotone. [ yawn ]
One more thing I use onion powder...garlic powder so much that I forget to include it in my recipes when I write them down. I also use something called Better than bullion. It comes in all flavors it a consolme and not salty like bullion. Corn startch instead of flour. I get the same results but no lumps and no flavor lost as flour can do. I'm in the usa and I understand people from your side of the pond are not use to what we are. A 20lb turkey here is about 40 dollars last Nov. A 10lb ham was about 25 dollars. Smoked. But still kush make something that noone here on average would take the time to do. Work...kids...money...and health reasons it just won't fly for the most part. I had a cheif from one of our good restaurants come one year since they were free from work and loved what I put out and took my detailed recipe to copy it.

Matt has now become the master of digging. I miss Phil but Matt is great
All that time spent doing peasant and Roman soldier historical re-enactments primed him to be the best. 😊❤
I remembered all young Matt’s costuming and active role playing, too. And, now, he is the voice of mature experience on the dig. My boy grew up 😀
Hilda would be a welcome addition too.
Phil Harding is still doing field archaeology with Wessex Archaeology. He is working on Paleolithic sites in Britain. He was born in 1950.
I disagree.
It's akin to trying to replace James May with Matt Leblanc.
20 minutes on and I have lost interest entirely.
I simply love Stewart Ainsworth. Period. He is always so energized about every site. He explains old land use so well.
I remain a huge fan of Stewart❤
One thing for certain, AI will never replace Stewart! He is an absolute incredible one of a kind
AI don't replace Stewart.....Stewart replaces AI
AI fears Stewart

I like the 3 episodes edited together very much, and I am getting use't to the new members☺️
🇨🇦 Canada Loves Time Team❤!!!
This is definitely up there with the original Time Team - sorry original team, but while it was great to watch and rewatch, Time Team is back!
This was so great! All the added visuals and virtual museum were fascinating additions to an already wonderful program. The advancements to archeology and to seeing and experiencing history as time goes on is truly amazing. Love the team, having this program back, and seeing everything grow 😊 Very fun episode imo
I have lived watching Time Team sunce i furst found it in here. I muss some if the past faces, but i am just glad it is still going. Love watching.
Excellent !
this feels right on par with the old time team. Really good stuff. Hope I can financially support some time soon.
I fell in love with time team after the original show stopped filming. It is my favorite show hands down. Thank you for resurrecting it!
Another excellent episode. Thank you very much. From Ohio
❤Stewart Ainsworth 🎉
[also Richard ❤]
It's wonderful seeing Helen Geake filling a more central role. I always thought she was underutilized.
just wait til you see them dig sutton hoo. She will shine like gold.
I missed the watch-along, but this is great!! I appreciate all the extra links you've posted in the notes as well (...more) Even though I'm a Patron, I still feel that each episode is a gift. Thank you Time Team 🥰
This is the first time I have watched a 'new' time team. I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more.
Thank you for this! It is wonderful to welcome this marvelous program back and wonderful to see some of our old friends and welcome the new!
This made me day, didn't realise Time Team was continuing. This is awesome, archaeology and history packed in this format is the best 🙏🏻⚓♥️
So glad not only for the programme to be on again but to have the correct sound track in the background just awesome.
I wish I could go back in time 40 years and study archaeology in the UK. I have watched the old TT episodes many times and am happy to support the new TT on Patreon
What a fantastic young archeologist program they have going!!!
Can I just say you have all done wonderfully perfect job.
Have you ever tried to get in touch with the Time Team team? I'm sure they'd love to make use of your expertise and enthusiasm 😁
As a hand spinner I absolutely loved this one. The spindle whorl was stunning.
Thank you, Time Team…we lovethe OG team…we know Tony will come back..at least for cameos…
The size of that oak tree is amazing.
It is great to see the incorporation of many technology updates (3D printing and photogrammetry, laser scanning), together with the amazing advances in the geophys - compared to the OG TT, where John Gater was wandering around fields with a hand magnetometer!
Excellent as always. Well done
I like love ❤️ these Hospitallers..
I’m convinced.
I’m supporting this.
Cheers! We had great fun being there
I’ve been watching numerous archaeology & historical documentary programs the last while and I’d like to point out that both the old Time Team programs & the newest ones are made for the viewers. There are no complaints of background music overpowering the dialogue. Or scenes that are too dark. Bravo !!
Really enjoyed watching it again. Great dig suggestion from Stuart!
I Love Time Team ❤
Brilliant episode! The virtual technology is amazing 😉 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽 🇬🇧
I’ve never liked change , I watched every episode of the original a few times over , the new crew do very well though with some of the original crew , I’ll be watching all the new episodes. great show . Fr Canada 🇨🇦
Matt has always been a star. Taking one for the team with costumes, role play ...all the while being a great archaeologist 😊
This is great to see . Thanks to all involved in creating and sharing this
I think these are amazing. Gus is a great presenter
Another great episode! So wonderful to see kids getting involved in these digs ❤☺️
Absolutely! Archaeology is always a a fantastic way to get kids interested in history because it's history you can put your hands in 😁
Thanks
Love time team, been watching for years
I’m happy the idea of Time Team continues. Tony was funny but even he became more serious about archaeology over time.
Welp now Gus adapted to the role, well done! :)
So great to see the show back.
Well done. Wonderful to see the team work, integration of state-of-the-art technologies, and good old fashioned "on your knees" scraping. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
It makes me feel sad that the originals are not all here, but this was a really good presentation. Congratulations!
I love the new time team...I love the gentle pace and demeanor of the team
while I miss the rest of the team. there is still lots to learn and thanks everyone for continually sharing it with us.
So I am going to enjoy both the old and the new TT, appreciate the best of both, and be thankful I have more episodes to watch
to me British history is the most interesting anywhere in the world, read about it from when I was a kid .👍🇨🇦
Loved the palm. My first job apprentice sailmaker. They got me a lefthanded palm . I only lasted six months then went on to sea. Wish i had stopped to finish my apprenticeship.
I love your wonderful program, history and lovely country. Im an American decendant of Jacobite Alexander Mcdanold.
I VERY much enjoyed the timeline you have included and refer to other events of the time. Please, include that more often.
PS. Glad John got rid of his "flip-key" as a pointer. LOL
A fantastic episode thanks to Stewart and everyone at Time Team.
[ yawn ]
be great to see Phil again
Yea would be nice to see him again. And boy did Tony add that great…. Well he just tied it all together.
Stewart Ainsworthis THE landscape whisperer. Always trust his instincts.
