Mad scientist. How many in the comments don't know this guy is a legend? I'm 51 and Professor Schmitt has been doing this since before my earliest skate memories.
I used to measure same way and overthink a ton.. It seems much easier to take ya setup and tap your tail or nose down an THEN measure the angle in the midpoint of the board. That’s where the pop starts and it does not trick my brain. That tells me right away how scoopable or earlyflickable the setup is - together with trucks and wheels, endgame!
Its crazy to think about the board in a mathematical way but it really does make a difference when you dial it in for your needs, creature deck 8.375, thunder trucks 8.0 width, bones stf v1 52mm wheels, bones soft bushings, just lock in so many tricks for me
I'm digging everything he says about finding what works for you, but if you don't ride antihero Eagle 8.5s with Indy 159s and Powell Dragons you got no steez
I have Eagle Antihero 9" and Ace 55 Classics wich are 9" too. Can't flip right because of wheelbase is over 15. I'm gonna buy some egg board from Heroin Skateboards. 9.5" or 9.75" those have 14.25" wheelbase so it's gonna be much better. That Antihero is perfect on mini rampant etc. but hard when trying to flip it..
I’m guessing the iPhone measurement app lacks tenths of a degree because it’s not that precise. I’ve compared it to a bubble level in the past, and the iPhone always seems a bit iffy.
If heat is bad for your skateboard, Black Griptape is the worst color for when your board is in the direct sunlight. Griptape companies are plotting against us. Light colored grip only for me now.😆
I remember skating in the 80s with a couple buddies in one dudes back yard who had built a quarter pipe and a launch ramp, the quarter pipe was pretty small, but they did a few things on it, but pretty much learned how to drop in off that thing… Anyway I remember a few days we had ruined grip tape cuz it was si hot that the grip tape softened up and peeled off when the best of the group did a big ollie and had a peel come off where his frront foot grabbed on the board, as n the reason I remember that so well thirty years later is because I almost could ollie afterwards because I had a visual of where he had his foot, problem was my board that my parents had got me and my brother and I didn’t want it when we got them because I knew I had no chance to do tricks on it there was less than two inches of tail, and barely any angle(the best ollie guy could Ollie a couple feet on his board, and barely get off the ground after a couple attempts on my board) Anyways I remember hit sticky grip tape lol
How steep or mellow are the kicks, are the kicks the same degree or not? Like is the nose steeper than the tail or is it symmetrical degree of steepness. How many fingers of flat do you have? - if you are riding a shape you love or don’t like you can use this info to help you dial in what type of board shape works for you or certain tricks you like to do. Broadly, more steep angle/less fingers of flat = bigger pop but harder to manual; more mellow or more fingers of flat = quicker pop easier to manual, but harder to pop up high. Of course always depends on trucks wheelbase, height and wheel size in combo with that info you are measuring
Just stand on the deck at the skateshop. I've been buying boards for years and have never had a problem other than having a bunk graphic or a weak deck.
Standing on a deck helps to feel the concave, but other than that it doesn't help much, since the wheelbase changes dramatically depending on the trucks you'll put in. Ben Degros and Paul Schmitt talk about that a lot.
Im almost always w Chris, I know a decent amount about geometry and everytime I see this guy he leaves me with more questions than answers about my board! Like I thgt I knew but maybe I dont... I love that someone is tackling the subject, but when he acts like he has found these great ways or standards but then after all this messy measuring theres no point to it at the end... Maybe its just me, but I always feel like Chris feels like I do haha!
2 points -There is app on android you can download to do this -How you do this personally is based on the setup your use too, then take all the necessary setup info. Then lets say you change boards to different wheelbase, do the measurements again from there you can adjust how you can skate
someone would have to pay me to use an iphone...and also if you didn't realize there's a difference in the angle on your nose an tail despite them being the same 'size' then that's on you playboi

Pop the tail and slide your right or left foot depending on stance and will go up just make sure to have grip tape on 😅.
i don't have an iphone, but this is the content everyone needs! Thank you!
And then there's Penny in timberlands flipping down an 11 stair with a crappy powell board.. 🍄
Flip board, surely?
@@AtomMachinerule what's wrong with Powell? Not pretty enough graphics on the pro-models?

Skate too much to spend $60 on a deck. I would be dead broke lol
@@jaredadams5748 only $60 where you live!? I'm in Canada where everything from skate Mafia to anti-hero to Baker Costs $120/deck!
Lmao deck is right
I like these topics because I don’t skate but would like to and this is good information.
Does the app account for the curvature of the earth?

It is not enough to ruin our shoes, they also want to mess up our boards.
Big grip has gotten us all

By 7:13, I'm just laughing at this fake scientist, basically a white cape car mech, this is hilarious
I skate mini logo and they are 18 degrees. I wish all brands advertised the angle. Mellow boards work best for me.
Could nerd out on the professor for days
Anyone else still not sure what exactly to be measuring for?

Even at the end of his point there wasn’t any point 😂😂
