You could dye the red pants if you don’t wear bright red! Either dye it blue to make them purple, brown to make them redish-brown, or black… A bit of a risk but it might be worth it! I dyed lots of my colorful clothes brown to make them more muted 😅

You might want to consider cotton batiste for the shirt replacement. It's slightly seethrough, 80 g/m2 - rather thin and cold in touch (which is lovely in summer). It's lighweight, soft draping and generally cheap (at least in Poland) :)

This has made me realize that after I move, I really need to do this rotating wardrobe. Then I won't get bored of all my clothes as much or always wear the same thing because of decision fatigue. Thank you so much for your wonderful video.

I would go with either linen or viscose for the blouse! Viscose is made of cellulose but quite processed so it’s technically natural material ^_^

    • @spottedstar1123

Yes I was going to say rayon!!! And viscose/rayon will still have the soft drapiness as that polyester

    Love a good declutter!
Agree with the linen suggestions from other commenters. When shopping keep in mind it gets softer with wear.
If you're looking for a more silky option consider ecovero (more sustainable alternative to viscose) or tencel/lyocell (similar). Linen holds up to washing and wearing better though, and is lighter / more "fresh" to wear.
As for the polyester getting stinky, a) relatable, and b) there is actual research on why this is, Kristina Vike did a video on the topic recently (very interesting, highly recommend).

For the sweat smell, soak the garment in a solution of oxiclean and water for a couple of hours, then rinse well and wash it normally. This will break down any organic compounds in the fibers. I've used this trick many times, and it works wonders.

A suggestion to replace polyester. Viscose! I love it; flowy, light or jersey weight as you need, and drapes really well. I always thought is was manmade. It isn't, it's wood based made from cellulose from fast growing trees. 'Viscose is derived from the 'cellulose' or wood pulp from fast growing, regenerative trees such as eucalyptus, beech and pine, as well as plants such as bamboo, soy and sugar cane.'

For the polyester blouses, try rinsing them in diluted vinegar and letting them air dry. It won't eliminate the problem, but it'll take longer before they start to smell.

For your alternative fabrics for blouses, there are actually quite a few: as some have mentioned, linnen. Lightweight linnen has this nearly transparent property, and yes, with more wear it gets softer. You can still cut it on the bias for a nicer draping, if you wish but then i absolutely recommend to do the hem last - leave it on a hanger for at least 24 hours, to let it stretch out, then cut it into the same length again and hem it.
Same for cotton, i have a nearly transparent blouse of very light weight cotton (i think it's batist or voile), and you can work with it on the bias in the same way or just normally on the grain. Sadly it has the typical cotton properties and is just a bit more 'frail'.
Another alternative could be viscose (the chemical to produce it IS quite dangerous, but with proper safety measures it gets neutralized completely in the end - except the times when it goes wrong in the chines production companies and especiall the workers there have a ruined health), or for a safer - and more expensive - alternative you can get ecovero, modal, tencel, lyocell. As far as known the chemicals to produce those aren't harmful. Anyway, with those fibers there are fabrics that are called 'synthetic silk', as they are still man made fibers (with all the good properties of natural fibers though) and they DO simulate silk to the T. I have a blouse made of viskose silk and it's absolutely lovely.
And lastly, there are blends of all those fibers, that give you lots of options. I have recently seen a silk thin fabric that was 60% modal and 40%linnen and i'm gonna buy it soon once i get that one mc calls dress pattern i want to make out of it. Kinda pricey though.

Lucy, try a cotton voile for your blouses. It's light weight and plant based. I love the fabric and find myself making more and more dresses and shirts out of it.

If you freeze the woollen trousers for a night or two and shake them out after thawing, it will be less itchy. And washing them in a proper wool detergent will soften them too.

Your white poly shirt - Deconstruct the shirt, take a pattern from it and use cotton voile, lawn, batiste or cheesecloth.
Or you could try putting a 1/4 cup white vinegar in the rinse cycle when you wash it and air dry it. It should help with the smell.

Or even 'synthetic silk' which is, just like rayon, a viscose fibre with a different treatment. But this one is especially made to mimic silk and it does so very well. In the EU you will most likely only find them as 'viscose' though, cause the terms Rayon and Synthetic Silk have been banned on their own.

An easy way to fix shoulders that slip off is to sew a bra catcher onto the shoulder. It's basically a small piece of ribbon with a press stud on the ends that you can clip your bra strap into.

I bought a dress this winter in burgundy color. A simple dress. You have many pretty dresses. Yes, pencil skirts are not good when you are tall. I think you can have more pastel colors in your wardrobe in the spring and summer from the 80s as vintage style. I liked those colors in the 80s.

For the dress that slips off the shoulder, you need to attach a tiny 1/1.5 inch kinda strap (idk what to call it) on the shoulder seams and it'll have snap buttons, on side attached to the strap whatever and the other on the shoulder seam. And tiny thing will go under your bra strap and close the snap buttons. It'll not fall off your shoulder.

Would linen be an option for a lightweight see-through white top? There are so many weights and drapes to linen.

Just curious! Is it not bad to wear white to weddings in the Netherlands? I had no idea that wasn't a global consensus 😮

Would a rayon challis work for sheer white blouse? Rayons are semi-synthetic, according to Google.

You can wash your clothes in vinegar and get rid of the smell. Also lightweight linen will give you the hand that you want for that white blouse. I should say, though, I always smelled when I sweat until I went on a raw diet and it was amazing the difference in my own skin and smell. It's the toxic food, not you.

If you looked at it last time, think have you worn it since.. if it's a no, bye! Also I've noticed a lot of your clothes are just to thin...if you had a thick proper long blazer that would look great

I live on the Texas Gulf Coast where it's so hot long sleeve t shirts equals winter. The company Old Navy makes a knit that has wiking quality to it. I can sweat in it and it dries while on me. As for stink...take a cue from the royal family in the UK, they never eat garlic for that reason. For me cotton is year round. No wool. No linen. No silk.

DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get rid of the clothes you've made! I did and let me tell you I regret EVERY SINGLE PIECE I've decluttered. If I could go back I would keep every single piece. I have pictures but it's not the same thing at all...there's nothing that can compare to something you've made with your hands. I know I will not wear them, but if one day I have a daughter, I'd like to pass them on. And if they're not wearable, I still like to keep them as a sort of "portfolio". I keep the few pieces I have left I in an airtight bag so they don't take up too much space.

Really? An ice cream truck in 7 degrees?
Imagine it's February. It's nine in the evening and minus 18 degrees outside. You just got back from walking to the store, so you huddle up on the couch with two blankets and a hot cup of tea, hoping to thaw your frozen bones. Then, out of nowhere, you hear the cheery melody of the ice cream truck twinkling its way up your street. I'm sure you could really go for some ice cream right now.
    Sincerely,
    A Norwegian

Although it can be minus 3 Celsius at night, when the sun is shining for periods over 3hours in a row (and temperatures are nearing 10 or up) the Dutch will go outside. Parks and terraces will fill, barbecues are lit and people get their first ice-cream of a truck. This 🌞 also triggers spring cleaning and seasonal clothes swapping.

@@sokken_4464I did, but I thought it was mildly cynical... I guess the Norwegians have a similar reaction to sunnier weather. But I wouldn't leave my warm blankets for an ice cream truck. (Although b&j from my kitchen freezer is ok 😂)
