    Attending 1: Next patient had an a-fib with RVR
    Attending 2: Did you see the EKG?
    Attending 3: Too many squiggles, that's for medicine folks
    Attending 1: Wasn't it called irregularly irregular or something?

    Mad respect to orthopedic surgeons. Had to go to a shoulder specialist to get my torn AC tendon in my shoulder repaired. Took me a while to find a doctor because unlike most doctors, where you get sick and they give you medicine, with an ortho specialist, you have to trust another human being to repair your broken and deformed body. I found that thought just terrifying. So mad props to their knowledge and professionalism. Very high demand too. We were talking about Covid, and the doc was saying that he can't afford to get it because then, he won't be able to work with his patients.

Your message reminded me to appreciate her despite that. At least she keeps me physically fit lol.

      NGL the two smartest people I know are BOTH hand surgeons or "hand dentists" as some docs on Twitter call them lol. One of them went to Swarthmore and was Valedictorian and the other went to Yale for his undergrad, Yale post grad, and also did his residency at Yale, which I hear is pretty rare to do all 12 years there and they both did their fellowship at Brown U. Not sure how many applicants Brown gets for that fellowship but pretty sure it's hundreds and they only pick 1 or 2 ppl a year. In ortho the only specialties that require additional training after residency is hand and spine. I chose to be a chef, WTF was I thinking?!?!?!

    There's a reason why ortho remains as one of the most competitive specialities because their work is complex and demanding.

    • @Will_walkingW
      @Will_walkingW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +118

      @@daan8695 during med school orthopods are some of the smartest in the room. You need excellent board scores, research, strong letters of rec, etc…it is considered one of the most difficult specialties for med students to apply and match into. So orthopods were at the top of their class in most cases. However, after you start residency you focus so specifically on surgery and the management of sports/hand/spine/oncology/trauma/shoulder/elbow/arthroplasty that the other stuff gets left behind. So to other doctors we seem dumb because we forgot all the basics that even med students know. But in actuality we are just super sub-specialists with a special focus….long story short they call us dumb and we say we tested out of that other stuff. But its all fun and games. We love med bros deep down.
      The gym stuff comes from the stereotype that former athletes or people in shape who go into med school tend to flock to ortho because it has everything to do with a body in motion
      Hope that helps….bro
