    You should have mentioned to store mica sprays on their side not upright. Always swirl or shake sideways not upright and if bottle is upright even for just a few minutes, they should be reshakened so mica doesn’t clog sprayer. If an air bubble gets into straw of regular sprayers they will “clog” so just hold nozzle down about 15 seconds and release. Then try to spray again. And after each use, wipe nozzle off using baby wipe or wet cloth. And in this video you r trying to spray downwards so the straw sucks up air rather than resting in the fluid and sucking up the inks. Ranger makes a product called Micro Glaze to completely waterproof the sprays, inks and watercolors. Tim Holtz does demo on TH-cam. I LOVE that product!!! It is available at Michael’s and can use a coupon for great discount!! Tattered Angel sprays often found at Tuesday Morning at great prices. Rather than buying craft mica sprays u can use eyeshadows ground up, dissolved and added to water or other spray inks. My friend gets the most ungodly colors from the Dollar Tree & mixes in a mini mister and has had great success but I haven’t tried that. Like u say, experiment. I tend to use Distress and Dylusions sprays mostly because it is readily available to me without having to order online. I use them in Tim Holtz fine tip waterbrushes so I can paint with them as well as Dyan Reverley demonstrates in her TH-cams. (I bought the brushes one at a time stopping at Michael’s & JoAnn’s last year as I traveled around the USA-west coast to east coast southern route there & northern route back using 40-50% off coupons). In 7 wks time, I had enough for all the Dylusions inks and all the Tim Holtz sprays that I own. I labeled the brushes so I knew which town/state the souvenir was from-LOL). Happy crafting to all!!

    I have the same frustrating problem with my sprays and what I usually do is soak the sprayers in warm water and they unclog easily. Thanks for sharing! I going to have to try those Prima sprays, those spray bottles will make spraying large projects so much easier. 🤗

      yes everyone finds a way to unclog them somehow. I also tend to use them like paint with a paint brush as I love the watercolor effects they give. I do love the shape of the prima once. its much easier to spray.
      Thanks so much!!

    • @KerenTamir

      the ones I show in the video are listed but discontinued. you can use old spray bottle that are washed or any spray bottle truthfully especially if you're just mixing with something like Intense pencils. I haven't mixed that brand specifically but I know it works well. I've done sprays with Gelatos and other water soluble crayons so I know it works. I have a video all about Crayons and I think I tried that.

    my prima bloom sprays have gone really sticky - i stored them on their side and they leaked - i used on cast resin and they wont dry and are really sticky x have they gone off or can i do something to make a right again x thanks in advance xx

    • @KerenTamir
      @KerenTamir  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that on certain surfaces the bloom sprays don't dry properly. I haven't used them for a few years but I remember that happening to people. I think on resin it makes sense why it doesn't dry as the surface I assume is too smooth. You would need gesso underneath.

    Good comparisons and tips! From what I understand, Dye inks are not permanent and pigment inks are. For mica products, I’ve heard that Arabic Gum helps to make them permanent. I like those bottles you used! Where did you get them? TYFS ❤️🦋💜

    Is there something you can do to prevent clogging? Maybe run the sprayer under hot water? Otherwise what is the point of buying them.

    • @KerenTamir
      @KerenTamir  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minna yes I think people have tried hot water, truthfully I should have checked before as some of these were old. However there are certain brands that barely ever clog. Prima used to but then changed spouts and not its way better. I know people have soaked them in hot water and it has worked. you can also change spouts I guess.

    • @KerenTamir
      @KerenTamir  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      do you mean if they change when exposed to sunlight?
      I do know that if exposed to direct sunlight they will lighten and become dull, however if in a regular room they remain just as on the first day. I have some art hanging in my studio from 5 years ago and it is still just as bright as ever. However I believe that any painting exposed to sunlight will dull unless it has some kind of protective coating. I'm sure you can find something in an art store.

      Hello to all fellow mixed media crafters! Kudos to Karen for this great video.
      I have the Lindys, Dylusions, Distress and Marabu sprays. Marabu has the least liked sprayer, in my opinion. Too coarse. But that may be the effect you are after! Be sure to clean off the little nozzle with baby wipe or quickly with just water on tissue and store upright. You will be more likely to get spatters if you do not clean the nozzles. If I forget I remove the nozzle and use an acrylic cleaner solution and sit the nozzle in it. Bout 10 min later you can come back and work out the clog by spraying warm water thru them. Once cleaned, make sure all water is gone and insert nozzle back into the paint spray bottle. I do start my spraying in a vertical position with a car and "screen" behind it. Often we would rather work flat, but sometimes a vertical spray position gets the mister started faster.
      I make my own acrylic sprays that are waterproof when dry by mixing any acrylic paint with water and using the Mini Misters...I think they are made by Ranger. I LOVE them. I just wish they had a wider bottle to stand up, but the sprayer itself is the most reliable of all I have used. The colors will be brightest if you use highly pigmented acrylics like artist grade fluids. The Mini Misters are so helpful to me because I often want to mix my own color.
      For the sprays that aren't waterproof when dry I often use the Krylon spray fixative...out the window, LOL, and in a little while they are ready to go with the next layer. Have fun! And thanks again, Karen.

    I like when you do these types of videos, I always learn something from you! I've been using sprays for years but I still learn something. You're so sweet!! thank you!!
      the ones that were clogged were old and so nothing would have helped lol. I don't always shake my bottles because I forget but I guess its better to shake them as you will get a more even coat. I find that the brands that have lots of mica in them tend to clog more than the others. I should have checked them in advance but I didn't.

    • @KerenTamir
      @KerenTamir  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keri 81 that’s so interesting I’ve never heard of that happening with sprays but I can only guess that it’s probably an interference base. That means that the color reacts differently whether you put it on white gesso Orr on black gesso. I know this happens with certain paint they’re called interference pains and I’ve used them many times on my videos but I’ve never seen it done with sprays. sometimes the companies put different types of powders to create a certain color and when put on black the color might react differently with a medium so that’s what happens. you didn’t do anything wrong that has to do with the paint

    • @kmasse81
      @kmasse81 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KerenTamir well thank you for the timely reply! In any case it is a lesson learned. I knew many colors such as oranges and yellows do not show up on black Gesso so I tried darker to see what would happen. Definitely will stick to acrylic paints or sprays with black Gesso if I am needing a specific color scheme. Luckily this oops turned out beautiful for my Masquerade theme canvas!
