Me: Very good, what time was your appointment to speak with her? RL: (nothing but confused) Um, I need an appointment? Me: Yes, you did say she was expecting your call, what time did you make your appointment for? RL :(irritated and stupefied) I’ll just call back later. Me: No problem at all, but please be advised, I’m the one who answers the phone, so I look forward to speaking with you later. They never called back.
I do collections, and have for years. I decided way back that I would NEVER do consumer collections again since that's where I started out, only business-to-business. Most people want to pay their bills (of course you always have your grifters in the mix but they are nowhere near a majority), and if they don't, it usually means they can't and the reason for that is never good. Job loss, hospital bills, illness, injury, other life circumstances that take a higher priority, God only knows. The last thing they need is me calling to add to their burden and the last thing I need is one more sad story that I can't do anything about except pray. It was far too wearing on me so it had to be just as wearing if not more so on the people I had to call. Someone has to do it I suppose but I definitely didn't have what it takes to do that over the long haul.
Very empathetic of you, someone has to do it for sure, does not mean it needs to be you though! Do what you love and let someone else Harass consumers.

its worst when someone dies and the bill collectors just keep calling. My parents died, I informed all their credit card companies, doctors, hospitals, etc. of their death. Yet a year after their deaths, I was getting calls from collection agencies. I told collections my parents had moved to Heaven and they had not left a forwarding address. The collection person usually got pissed when they realized my parents were dead and they threatened to sue the estate. I laughed and told them if you find an estate let me know b/c my siblings and I would love to benefit from that estate.
When my dad died 7 years ago, I called his creditors and ALL of them couldn't have been nicer. I was ready for a fight, just waiting for someone to claim we were still responsible for his bills but not a one of them tried to pull that crap!

About 23 years ago I had been in the hospital due to blood clots - a very serious issue in my legs and was near my lungs but was lucky to get to the hospital when I did. I had gotten home from the hospital and received a call soon after. I answer the phone it was a bill collector and he started off 'hot!' I calmly told him I had just gotten out of the hospital and this is not something I can deal with now and no longer have a job. He said as he huffed and yelled "So are you saying you are NOT going to pay your bill?"...I said "sir, I just...", and in that moment I thought (do not continue this conversation) my health is more important than running my blood pressure up and hung up the phone. I know he had a job to do but it is not his money he acting like I borrowed his money and had not paid him back in years.
Them: Can u verify the last 4 of your social and your address? Me: No ma'am. U called me so shouldn't u already have that info? Them: I need to verify that I'm speaking to the right person. Me: Again... U called me. I'm not giving u any of my personal information. NOT NONE. Them: Have a good day ma'am. 🙄😂
By far my most hated job. The ppl I was calling didn’t bother me. Management standing over me was what made me have an attitude. I wasn’t mean/rude enough for them. The ppl calling and are hella rude are normally top performers.
Omg yess..I hated it..ppl don't know its the audits, protocol, supervisor, and dumb regulations they want us to abide by..I was told they loved my voice but I did let the customers too easy..they wanted me to harass and interrogate..Most of the time I prayed ppl hung up or didn't answer.. I had to quit..it was too mentally exhausting.

I also had a one tell me after I asked for a deferred payment schedule due to hardship; he told me if I was between homes, then what would've been my rent money should be going to pay them but I was apparently too stupid and irresponsible to figure that out! I reported him AND got my debt cancelled. I don't play that.

One of the worst calls I got was for being a reference ( not a cosigner) on someone's account. The guy called and ask me can I loan my friend the money. I asked him, why couldn't he. He them ask me to get it out of a 401K or something. Needless to say I hung up on him.

I have one loan I refuse to pay becasue the car I bought was a lwmone and needed so many repairs I did voluntary surrender on it and still had to pay the remaining balance. One time they called to set up a payment and I told them I could afford 50 a month right now they said it has to be 100$. I said ok. Paid 100 for 3 months and stopped paying. You want the money or not? You gone get what i give you if I'm already in hardship. I'm in a much better place now, I'm just not going to pay it and let it fall off my credit 🤷🏾♀️ every thing else I owed is paid for. No more bill collectors calling me. 😌

Is there anyone who actually makes a payment via phone or do bill collectors get cursed out and hung up on all day long? That must be a tough job.
I've worked for 2 credit card companies. Collections was no joke and I wasn't going to work it. Not today devil, you won't have me taking a mental health leave of absence.
@@janiceharris5475 same, I work for collections agency that drained me mentally. Cherry on top was when I tried to apply for different jobs, they were so disgusted I had experience as a collector. 😩
I curse them out and then pay the bill..... Lol..... Just they way they talk piss me off but I don't like debt. Most of it is from shit I forgot about..... But they give me a hassle but I pay cause I like good credit!!!

Not a bill collector but I did go Liam Neesen from taken on a scammer, but in my defense her called me 10 times in 30 minutes. Trying to tell me I won a cruise in a competition I know I didn't enter so I told I'd get a vacation to hunt his butt down if he didn't leave me the f alone.

I was a Consumer Studies major (yeah... big deal) but one of the few things I remember was the Fair Credit Collections Act. I don't even know if it's still active. But I threw it out there a couple of times when dealing with an aggressive collector. It worked! LOL

One called me on a Saturday...i had already paid it but she gave me attitude before I could say. I said don't get mad at me because they got you working on the weekend. Then hung up.
One got so mad at me the went from American Sarah to Indian Suri told me not to speak to them that way. I said then don't call me that way and you know your given name isnt what you told me stop lying to people and hung up.

I had a debt I was willing to pay. I was going to send a small monthly amount until it was paid off they said they wanted all of it and they wanted it right then. The young lady was so nasty when she called me almost daily, that finally I said I will die before I pay that bill ever! I told her she can tell the people she work for that she is the reason they will never get my money. That’s correct, my money is mine until I decide to give it to you. I don’t play with them you disrespect me one time I don’t pay the bill I don’t care. My credit was already ugly and wasn’t gonna get better anytime soon, so on top of that I have to listen to you bully and talk crazy to me? Bye Felicia!

I have one loan I refuse to pay becasue the car I bought was a lwmone and needed so many repairs I did voluntary surrender on it and still had to pay the remaining balance. One time they called to set up a payment and I told them I could afford 50 a month right now they said it has to be 100$.
I said ok. Paid 100 for 3 months and stopped paying. You want the money or not? You gone get what i give you if I'm already in hardship. I'm in a much better place now, I'm just not going to pay it and let it fall off my credit 🤷🏾♀️ every thing else I owed is paid for. No more bill collectors calling me. 😌

I don't have bill collectors calling me so I'm darn sure not going to have SOMEONE ELSE'S bill collectors calling me. I used to get these constant calls from Capital One for somebody else. Got real sick and tired of telling them daily that they had the wrong number and told them the next reps that call me are going to get a whistle blown in their ear. Never heard from them again!!
