    Nicely explained. Those things are game changers and a must! Can really prevent some nasty experiences especially if a black tank accidentally opens during travel or leaks a bit.

    I'm actually kind of surprised that RVs don't come with that gate installed because I can't imagine it's real sanitary to have things leaking out without it. Your wife is a great prompter to help you remember to explain all of the steps to us! Nice and detailed tutorial.

      We talked with a manufacturer and they don’t install them because of liability. Some people forget to open it before they dump their tanks so it back fills and can end up backfilling the black into the gray. I guess some people open both tanks at the same time or something.
      I wish they added them on at the factory too but understand why they don’t.
      Thank you for watching and supporting!! -Chris & Suzannah

    Just saying hi. Shelley and I think that you did an excellent job of explaining the steps. I've dealt with the number two world in a house and speaking from experience. I know you want those cuts to be flush otherwise, you might get a little poo-poo seeping out around your brand new pipe. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.

    Good job! I put a gate valve at the front of our pipe. Bought one that attached to the bayonet lugs at the front of our pipe. It works just fine! Best update so far!

    Great job explaining that. We have the twist on one and I have been thinking about going with a more permanent solution like this. Reason to go permanent, well, what will twist on, will also twist off. Found out the hard way while flushing the black tank our first month on the road. Also, with the twist on kind, we had the seal go bad. -Corey

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohhh, didn’t even think about a twist on. I guess it’d be easier to install but yeah, easier to remove. This was wicked easy to do. It’s also fun to use a saw every now and again. You don’t get to do that a lot when you’re RVing. 😂😂-Chris

    Probably been said already but the cleaner softens the pipe and when you follow the rules you put PVC together once you've slathered it with glue and you give it an eighth of a turn and that smears the plastic and creates a weld.

    • @HintonTheTrail

      Here’s the instructions straight from Oatey. They say 1/4 turn.

      @@HintonTheTrail Nothing major. The grey tank connection is leaking now, but it’s fine enough that we can make it home before we have to do anything further. Not a fast leak, at least.

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you got lucky. Might be able to drain the tank and throw some J-B Weld or something on it to stop the leak. It’s cheap and fast to use. Sometimes small leaks turn in to big ones if not addressed. Anyway, run to a hardware store and look for a weld that works on ABS pipe. Good luck! -Chris & Suzannah

    I have a gate valve already and I get that little trickle/leak. Is there a seal I can replace? Or do I need a new gate valve?

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There may be dirt/debris caught in the gate I would clean it out really well (probably not a fun job) before looking to replace it.

    Was this a 3” to 3” coupling?

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a piece of pipe that allows you to connect two other pieces on to it. It will have a raised ridge in the center that you’ll push the pipes up to on each side. Any hardware store should have one.

    • @HintonTheTrail
      @HintonTheTrail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And apparently I should have read this better. I thought you asked “What”. 😂😂.
      Yes, we used a 3” on ours. It will depend on what size your pipe is though and how you want to attach it.
