I just wanted to say how amazing and genius this theme is. Let me explain. The lyrics basically repeats "Man is evil and must become eviler to become better" and "Even for the good, a noble one stands in their way. Even if they call him good all they want is to put him aside". Both quotes are from the famous german philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche from his book "And thus spoke Zarathustra". While the actual meaning of his words are still pretty debatable, it makes perfect sense when you consider that Stroheim is a nazi. See, the sister of Nietzsche misinterpreted her own brother horribly. So horribly that the actual nazis used it for their ideology. So in nazi ideology becoming more evil is to cast away all weaknesses, therefore the weak ones too, and by that man[kind] will become "better". And by any means, it's what Stroheim did. He threw away all his weaknesses by becoming a cyborg and therefore became a better human. Nazis would think of him as a "Übermensch" (Overman or Superman) . Another one of Nietzsches ideas. This is of course my own interpretation. Nevertheless it makes it the best anime theme I know.

But he doesn't die: scientists experiment on him and they make him far stronger. He returns on the frontlines with a bone to pick with the Pillar Men, half driven by the wish to protect his people from them, half driven by vengeance. He doesn't see himself as a maimed soldier chock full with prostheses, like Jojo sees him (and Stroheim is quick to catch his pity), but as the strongest Superhuman in the Jojo world, physically (or so he believes, as when he sees Kars at full power he has to admit he was mistaken) superior to the Pillar Men, the apex of creation, and the Hamon Users. So he was evil, he became worse, and doing so he got and went better, even helping Jojo to save humanity from the Pillar Men. Until he died in Stalingrad, and Araki off panel told it was by the hand of a Stand User. And given that Stand Users came to be between Act 2 and 3, Stroheim was easily the strongest human being before the Stand Users came, starting a new era where the deciding factor for all humanity was no more physical prowess, but Stand Mastery.

I think a better representation of Stroheim would be like Hibari from KHR. Hes not necessarily "good" nor does he like Joseph, but he respects the power Joseph possesses and whenever their interests happen to intertwine, he'll assist him to no end even giving up his own leg.
I think the whole using the captured locals as guinea pigs for his vampire experiment, except one boy who actually volunteered himself to save his family, just to spite the boy's sacrifice shows that he's not a good guy at all lol.

I'm going off very old memories, but I remember the nazis being more epic in the manga. In general the second part seems very butchered; I know they went to india in it but that never happens. (granted I read it many years ago and watched the anime recently)

I think a better representation of Stroheim would be like Hibari from KHR. Hes not necessarily "good" nor does he like Joseph, but he respects the power Joseph possesses and whenever their interests happen to intertwine, he'll assist him to no end even giving up his own leg.
I think the whole using the captured locals as guinea pigs for his vampire experiment, except one boy who actually volunteered himself to save his family, just to spite the boy's sacrifice shows that he's not a good guy at all lol.
