Riding solo is completely different then riding with others, and even if you have a group it’s still very important to ride your own ride!!
You’ll love that tire combo (I’m sure you already do as you must have some miles on em) I rode that combo for the continental divide, and I have a picture on my Instagram of them after 9500km (5900 miles) and the amount of life still remaining in those tires is incredible. And they twisty pavement as you’ve said exceptionally well for a knobby tire!!

I totally get bypassing some of the more treacherous sections, especially when you’re solo. I would do the same thing.

much respect to you Travis, for going back and finishing the routes. I would love to ride with you, and be your AT buddy, since that other nerd has gone to little 700 and 901 scooters!! Hope your family health matters have fully recovered?

🎗🎗Jack’s Army🎗🎗👍👍….. glad you got to get back out and get those sections done!! I know all to well about “family first” right now…. Haven’t even moved my bike since Touratech. My time will come and in the meantime I’ll watch videos like yours to keep the stoke alive!!! Keep Going.

with regards to your discussion in the beginning of the video, screw them man you the one out riding! I was in Washington a few months ago and would of killed to just do 1 section but that time of the year its all snowed in so appreciate you and the other people that do this in this type of style content ( i dont like the bdr documentaries they seem fake ), only just started watching your stuff but great videos so far!

People will say stuff, but you went out and did it. I wouldn't have done that solo. But you sure did complete the wabdr, I don't think it matters how you do it or on what schedule, what matters is you do it.

I did section 4 a few years ago, hoping to do 1,2, and 3 this summer.

My Wife and I have been tackling the WABDR N to S taking a section at a time, having done 5 and 6, as we feel like it on our 2021 Ural Gear-Up. Being retired and living nearby give us that flexibility. The Ural being slower and wider comes with it's own set of unique needs and skill set. LOL What a blast. Always ride your own ride is what 50+ years of riding taught me. I love that you took the Alt routes because this coming weekend those are the sections we are aiming at covering on the Ural. All the best to you and yours.

    That sxs driver 🤦🏼‍♂️
Looks like a ton o fun!

That sxs was……frustrating. I want to believe they simply didn’t see me. For half an hour. And that they weren’t waving me around and maybe just waving. And that it was just a coincidence that they weaved a crossed the trail back and forth. Every time I tried to pass………….

Looking good man. You might be a better rider than you think. Of course, it's always best to have someone with you off-road.

Nah. I’m a perpetual intermediate rider. My daredevil days are far behind me. Have no desire for expert or even some advanced stuff anymore. Stay much healthier that way, and more money in my pocket instead of buying parts.

Great video. glad to see you went back and finished. Many people won't do that kind of stuff alone. The ones that are talking crap probably have not done it.

I actually appreciate seeing the bypasses. I’m honest with myself in that if I try this BDR any time in the near future, I will be skipping the expert sections - my skills on a heavy bike just aren’t up to the task.

Ride for yourself! To quote Big Rock Moto Ian Schoenleber, "nobody cares how many miles you rode". I say mission complete, your experience and common sense are to be celebrated. Thanks for showing the alternate routes. Really enjoyed the commentary and scenery. Great video!
*That side by side driver was not a good human. Please be a good human.

Their is a big difference between bravery and foolishness. Caution is the better part of Valor. The best thing we can do is come home safe for our families. I love the fact you went back alone to do sections.

Wasn’t planned that way. Just no one available to go. Was going to be my last opportunity this year very likely to get it done so solo it was.

If it was ment be done as one there wouldn't be split into multiple sections if there's a start and a finish how one does there in between matter it's there adventure

To be honest I feel like you can do any route you want, even if you don't follow the actual BDR route. If most of your route is offroad, that should count as a back country discovery route. I'm not a fan of purists, gate keepers or elitists...they can do what they want to feel proud and we can do what we want to have fun. As long as you're having fun and being safe, that's all that matters in my eyes.
Question, do you ride with the same tire pressure onroad and offroad? I never saw you, or the other guys when you were doing the bdr with them, air up or air down at all. Maybe you just didn't show it.

Well said! "Ride Your Own Ride" doesn't mean "Ride My Ride Damn It". Asterisks are available, if necessary.
