  • Let's talk hydronic heating! Aquahot, HydroHot, Oasis, Aldi, they are all pretty similar, but what are they and how do they work. This is a behind-the-scenes look at our Aqhahot system, how it works, tips, tricks, and trouble.

    I am impressed and have some of the same impressions. I have rebuilt my tank once (weld split), changed the system to non-pressurized, and added a spin on hot water filter that filters boiler fluid. Mine now has over 12k hours.
    Nothing better when it's working I agree!

    I just bought a 1982 Eagle model 10 bus I plan to make into an RV and considering installing one of these into it if I can find a used one online or in a junkyard or something like that. I have a 2000 r-vision condor class A I've had for about 2 years now that has a standard RV furnace and water heater that I've had to service and this seems like an upgrade for sure despite the added complexity of the system

    I really enjoyed this video. You're very intelligent and definitely a geek. Love that. When you started talking about rebuilding the controller gizmo (technical term) I've done work like that so I was impressed but then talking about building your own with a PLC... how cool. I know what that is, so I definitely know you're a geek now. Very cool video and nice explanations.

      :) Lol, you would have loved the video I actually shot about that. I rambled about electronics and circuit design for half an hour while I fixed it. I edited the video and then realized it wasn't exactly for our audience. You have used the little aquahot in some vans, right? I do love the idea of doing heated floors with it.

      Sounds like a great Arduino project. Two, actually. First a monitor to reverse engineer the timings on the pins and then the second is the digital controller.

    You’re lucky that your Aqua Hot is out near the outside edge of the motorhome. My 2000 Monaco dynasty has it in the center of that compartment. But I still love the Aqua Hot over any other system. I’m so glad my 100 series Aqua Hot do use of standard antifreeze and has much better built brass 12 V pumps. You should mention that the older systems at least 100 series use glycol instead of boiler fluid.

    Are they using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors in timing circuits? No wonder they are having reliability problems!! They ought to have an oscillator circuit running into a long counter and do derivations off from that.. I would NOT put in the effort to maintain a system like that!! If you only use Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors as power supply filters, you have a fighting chance for longjrvity, accurate timing, and reasonable repairability!! I would give that piece of equipment a big thumbs down!!

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Right! No oscillator circuit; I did an entire video talking about the circuit and what I would do differently but realized it was not exactly for most of our audience. I even did a long segment speaking to my father-in-law, who worked with analog computation circuits in the 70's during the transition to digital, he's still a FORTRAN expert and we talked about how analog could and should make a comeback in some computation... I love nerding out, but Like I said, prob just going to go PLC, prob wouldn't trust my cuircit design anyway.

      10-12k! If the tank fails I prob will try to modify a residential on demand boiler unit to replace it

    Great Video. I do my own maintenance on my 2006 Dynasty and don't know how you would own one of these and hire it out..... I did talk to an aqua hot Tech who told me run it though a cycle with Diesel at least once a month. Do not let it sit for months without running it if possible.

    Just discovered your channel. You could most definitely teach a course. I am sure this is crossed your mind, but you could do some kind of live classroom Skype or whatever people do to take classes online you could do specific projects or just an overview on your knowledge of different systems. Very interesting. Well done thanks.

      I’m a plumber by trade. I’ve done a fair amount of heating, water heaters and electrical work. It basically looks like a sealed direct vent unit. I’m familiar with a lot of the different intricacies of that.
      I gotta say, though you’ve got a nice area to work on it. It’s all in the front, thank God, you don’t have to get your head in there and lay on top of it and work from behind, Im all the technology you deal with

      Lol, yes they did put it in a good area here, some coaches are not so great. Its a pretty basic system. What do you think of newer on demand boilers + domestic hot water units (residential). I wondered if the tank ever went out on this if i could retrofit it.
