    Nice job! One comment: I was always taught that your heading should be perpendicular to the TSS and not your course and this for two reasons: your crossing will be faster and you are more visible to the vessels in the TSS.

    • @samsails9820
      @samsails9820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is correct, the heading should be at right angles, i'd plotted courses to steer to monitor the tide set which at the time was nill. Many thanks for watching!

    Fab video when I have the balls to move my 22ft Pandora mk1 by sailing it on my own from Caernarfon Castle to Pill or maybe Weston- Super- Mare ( I have not joined a sailing club yet and got a mooring) I will make a video and put it on TH-cam.
    I have a 4hp four stroke with remote control on it. I guess it will use about the same 1.2 litres an hour as yours? Keep making the video's they are very informative.

      Fuel consumption is very approximate, the stated consumption from manufacturers is under test conditions, it doesn't include things like tide and weather effects. All the best with your trip, safe travel. Thank-you for watching

That’s a long old slog from North Wales around into the Bristol Channel... anyway there’s plenty of mooring available in both Creeks now I would think, my own Boats also in the Pill and since Portishead marina has been built it’s gone from all the mooring being full to lost available as they don’t like the mud!

    • @johnmilligan6605
      @johnmilligan6605 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on the boat but more importantly if you have to ask thequestionyou are not anywhere nearready to sail anywhere please spend a year or so learning to sail read all you can about the basics try to meet with experienced sailors who can help you along then when you have learned enough you will know what boat to buy but very few 22ftboats can cross oceans even in the hands of experts they are not built for the job and can't carry enough food water spares and everything els required just because a few peop!e have crossed the sea on small boats dose not mean everyone can almost all who try fail I don't want to put you off sailing but it's not like driving a camper van across the world it's extremely scary and dangerous in less youreally know what you are doing all the best john

      All the best with your trip Adam, stay safe, plan for the very worst. If I were to do such a trip in my boat the cabin would be made watertight. Most of the lockers would be sealed with foam, the amount required for your boat displacement would need to be calculated prior too. The chainplates would be reinforced and i'd speak to a rigger about gauge of rigging increase.

    Hi, I want to sail the from Oostende to Londen this summer. I was told using an outboard engine is not the best for the sea. On high waves it comes out of the water. Also I don't have AIS. Is that bad? And i'm really struggling on finding information which route to take.

    • @samsails9820
      @samsails9820  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, an outboard engine is fine, make sure you have the correct specificatiin of engine for your boat. A 'short shaft' typically used on a small inflatable boat will probably not work on a larger sailboat using it. AIS reciever is advisable for your trip. Lots of shipping

    • @samsails9820

      I returned to Harwich from Belgium. I was tempted to go via ramsgate due to wind direction, but about 20 miles out it became favourable to sail the rest of the way.

    • @samsails9820
      @samsails9820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes outboard well, fuel consumption depends on sea state, weather conditions and what speed over ground you want. Generally speaking it does about 1.2 litres, an hour in good conditions at 70% throttle, this gives me approx. 5 knots through the water in this boat.
