      @@TheWestisBig I would rather watch your hiking videos than television shows. I was so pumped for Glacier National Park but then Covid hit and I couldn’t make the 1 hour and 40 minute drive from Lethbridge Alberta as the border was closed. I’m going this year though and Grinnel Glacier is my first stop. I subscribed and have watched your entire Glacier documentary several times.

      Well, thank you! I've been a professional video producer making shows for clients for 30 years- these I make for myself- my stuff has no budget and no crew- so they're not quite to the same as my pro stuff.

    MY family visited Glacier national in 1980;, and had just graduated high school. The funny part is that I had not idea that the trails even existed. We witnessed most of the park from either the back seat, visitor centers, and rest areas.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, of course. Want to sponsor some? I’ve been to most US National Parks and those in the Canadian Rockies. I’ve made videos on several places but numbers of people only watch the ones about very popular parks. Again, if know of anyone who would like you’d like to fund a project. Please let me know as these projects don’t pay for themselves.

      Nope. I'm just finished a book on obscure hikes in Utah and I plan on doing a few near the water pocket fold assuming my subaru can get to the trailheads. Some say the roads are pretty rough

    My wife and I are heading to Glacier in September. I have borrowed a spotting scope from a friend, who said it was tremendously useful for him in Yellowstone. How useful would it be in Glacier? It’s heavy, and I’d rather not carry the weight if there isn’t a great need for it to see animals.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each night the NPS sets up a scope in the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn parking lot, I June I saw a couple of Grizz, and a few Big Horn in it. There are generally too many trees on the west side to need a scope. You might want to scan through my Glacier: The Hiker's Nat park video or just the Lodging segment which shows people looking through scopes at Swiftcurrent. the Long video has a Bear segment and lots of wildlife. You never know where wildlife will be. Though moose regularly feed in Fishercap Lake.

    Very good video. Planning to go early July in 2022. Are there any snow on trail to Grinnell Gracier Lake in early July? Is early July a good time to go hiking in many Gracier area? Thanks.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A assume your talking about the Grinnel Glacier Trail and not the Lower Grinnell Glacier Lake Trail. The hike to the glacier likely will have some snow but check the Park's trail status page this year as a guide. These days any time you can get reservations in the park is a good time to go. I couldn't go until Oct last year. The Grinnell lake trail is lower and flat--likely no snow pack but it can snow in glacier any month of the year. check out my other videos on my TheWestIsBig channel for more info.

    • @stevendiep1715

    We were planning to go to glacier the last week of June 2022 but I’m reading tonight is that June may be too early in the season to enjoy the high line trail and Grinnel Glacier trail. Do you agree that we should push the trip into July?

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      check the park's Trail status page. I just did, the HIghline was just opened a few days ago, and the swiftcurrent pass route to many glacier still isn't open.
      The Grinnell Glacier trail is also closed (as of early this morning) due to bear activity- The trail still has snow near the top.
      It's very important to check the park's web site often even if youre not going until nest year- to look for patterns. Nature is in charge- I'm sure you know its not like Disneyland.
      So yes If you want to do those trails pushing to July is safer- please know temps were near 100 not long ago and now forest fire smoke has been blowing in when the wind is right. With all that it's still my fave park

    I love your Video's and thank you!! We are going to Glacier in a week and I am terrified of heights. I want to hike Grinnell Glacier but not sure if I can do it. Is it scary and advisable for someone like me? I would love to see you do a video for the best trails if you are afraid of heights.

      Thanks for watching, please subscribe. there is only one stretch of that trail where u might have a issue. Its in the video , you’ll have to decide if u can handle it. Don’t do the highline but i assume most of the others will be fine for someone like you.

    for this up coming year is says that many glacier road is going to be closed for the season on the 17th of sept, is there any way to access grinnell trail I'm going literally the week after it closes for the season.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, please subscribe. The Grin Trail is in Many Glacier on the east side. If you’re staying on the Eastside as long as the many glacier road is open you’re good. If staying on west side take highway 2 around the park and head up the east side. Check the park’s road status page for other closures. Also pay attention to smoke levels in the park- smoke not only destroys views it can make it hard to breath too.

    We’ve been studying all of your Glacier National Park videos! We’re getting married in the park on 9/28. The Many Glacier road will close on 9/17 due to construction. Are you aware of a way we can hike to Grinnel Glacier from another accessible location in the park? I can’t figure it out, if it’s even possible.

      @@TheWestisBig That is the problem. The many glacier road is closing 9/17 for the rest of the year. There isn’t another good way to Grinnel glacier if it’s closed correct?

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh MG is closing due to construction I assume. Sorry another commentor was talking about the GTTSR closing and I got confused. The only way to get to grinnel glacier then is to hike there from the highline trail. This would be very long and difficult. the only time I know its been done is when I forest fire cut off the rest of the highline and forced the hikers to slide down the Salamander glacier to Grinnell. Not east and dangerous. You could also hike there from the Piegan Pass trail off the Sun Road.- come to think of it. This might actually be doable. My 50 hikes in Glacier describes how this is possible- but it might be better to look at a GNP trail map and then Ask a ranger if its doable.
