We just brought along a 80 year old young spirit along one of our hikes "Roman Nose Idaho," and was quite impressed that with his many years of hard labor (miner) followed by many years of retirement but keeping active; his ability to still keep a descent pace. He was a mountaineer for most of his life, but was always mission oriented instead of enjoying current locations along the way. The latter tends to be our channel's theme.
It is also motivating knowing people of all ages enjoy these video channels. Mine is still growing > 2000 subscribers, but seeing the growth is motivation to keep making videos.

Thanks for the vicarious experience with this hike, guys! This exact trek was on our hike list for a planned Glacier trip in August 2018. Unfortunately, my wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July of that year. Long story short but she’s in remission and we did get here in 2019 but she wasn’t yet strong enough to tackle this hike yet. And then this year (2022) the trail was closed due to grizzly activity. We’re both 66 years old so if we can’t get to this one in the next few years it may not happen. But we certainly enjoyed this through you guys. Thanks for having us along!

I've been to a large majority of the western national parks of the US, and none even come close to Glacier. It really is the crown jewel of the lower 48.

I moved up here from the south for these exact reasons. The views any direction you drive never gets old. Every time of the year you could look at one mountain and it never really looks the same. Especially in the wintertime. I was driving today and noticed some snow peaks with the sun hitting them just right at sunset. They were golden with purple hues around them. I had to pull over and take it in. I completely get everything you guys felt and was thrilled to see y'all finally up here.

I found this channel randomly and I subbed right away. Quality is top notch. I have never watched any foreign hiking videos, so it was really cool to see your hiking culture compared to mine. The way you have to hang your food from bears, where we have to look out only for mice 😅 And the views... wow. So happy you guys made it to beautiful Glacier NP. We camped over a week there a few years ago and hiked along mountain goats, grizzlies and big horn sheeps in the distance. The beauty is remarkable there and makes up for the crazy continental divide weather. Thank you for another great adventure, brought back much memories. We need to protect and respect mother nature's majesty, thank you for your advocacy!
What a magnificent episode. No one captures the essence of the wild landscape like these chaps. The reality of these National Parks is always different than one imagines them to be. And coming from a country where it is impossible to see a bear outside of a zoo, the bear encounters were riveting. This episode was indeed "the cake".

Glacier never fails to impress! I did the Gunsight pass trail and had perfect weather for 3 days, also saw my first grizzly bear near the pass. This place is truly special!

Every time someone said, 'yo bear', my heart jumped 😅, that was one nerve-racking moment in my history watching AA.
Fantastic! You made it to Glacier near my home! My daughter and I had a permit for that exact trip 3 years ago this past August. We went the same direction and stayed our first night at Old Man Lake. It was such a gorgeous hike! We were tired that last stretch too! The weather was nice until we got to camp, then we had intermittent rain. We got a break and ate our supper, then retreated to our tent for the rest of the night. It was cold but we had the right gear so stayed nice and warm. In the morning when I woke up, I looked up at the tent roof and saw a strange kaleidoscope pattern. I reached up and thumped the tent…whoosh came down snow! It was August 15th! I woke my daughter exclaiming “Sarah, it snowed!” Her response was”You’re shitting me?” 😂 We unzipped our tent to see a magical landscape of summer snow. It had snowed about 1-2 inches. We decided to have an easy morning, let the snow melt and backtrack the way we came. Then We were eating our breakfast and heard a pack of wolves down by the lake. At first we thought they were coyotes, then realized the deeper howls were distinctly wolves. After breakfast while filtering water, my daughter got a brief glimpse of one along the shore not far from us. What a great adventure. I hope to try that hike again and make it over Pitamakan and Dawson passes. Thank you for taking me up and around! Unbelievable that grizzly was on that trail but they do hunt mountain goats I hear.

I have thousands of pictures from 35+ years of hiking/climbing/biking/rafting/fishing/camping and skiing Glacier.
Over 6000 trail miles and summited peaks over 100 times. I did all i could while capable. A deteriorating lower back condition finally got the best of me. I'm retired in the Andes mountains of Ecuador.
Appreciate the video. I have little video, but for snippets.
Bear encounters are special. Climbing Siyeh is great place to catch them digging up moths. They flip 300lb rocks like they're slices of bread.
Never had to deploy bear spray in all my encounters. Just give them room and speak in a calm low voice as you slowly move away. Worked every time
Had mountain lion encounters on numerous occasions. Same thing. Remain calm, speak softly, let them leave the area - they will.
Wolves and wolverines are spectacular!
Found a wolverine den in 2002 and visited it for 5 years before they moved on. Curious, non-threatening creatures.
Did the Dawson Pitamakan loop twice, from both ways. Long day trip.
Hit it in August both times. Flowers in full bloom. Pitamakan pass is one of my favorite trail views in the park.
I miss the Park. But time to move on with memories si vivid.

This is fantastic! Yall should look at North Cascades NP. Thats another backpackers paradise. It also has the largest number of glaciers in the lower 48 I believe. More than glacier any way! We almost backpacked there last year but ended up in Olympic instead (and loved it just as well). Thanks for the video

Funny thing about black bears, and this happens a lot here where I live in the Tetons, they will just stuff their faces with huckleberries and not pay any attention to whoever is on the trail, even if its a sow with cubs. During huckleberry season there are a lot of bear sightings but practically zero altercations. The huckleberries are the first and foremost most important item on the to do list. Many of us locals have secret places in the forest where we go to collect huckleberries. In our minds, our spot is the best. Its not uncommon to hear of stories where a person started picking huckleberries at a bush and lo and behold a black bear is on the other side of the bush eating the berries at the same time. I had a friend just keep picking berries even with the bear there. He left a bunch on the bush before he moved away to keep the peace. Most people will just move to another spot, but not my friend, he is not the smartest in that category.
i hiked this EXACT trail in august this year. after 3 years of being an adventure archives fan, beating you to this punch is admittedly gratifying.
sadly, we only had 1 day to hike this behemoth of a loop, so i didn’t get to take in all of the scenery for too long. this serves as an excellent refresher. thanks you guys!

At 41:50 you said exactly what I thought when I hike GNP in 2020. At age 44, I fulfilled the dream I had since a child pouring over a huge photo book of GNP in a dusty quiet corner of my library set just a mile from the central west coast of FL. I dream still, almost daily, of those glacier carved peaks, colorful stones, pine fresh air….Thanks for bringing me back.

Great episode! I'm from the area, my families ranch is close to Glacier. I'm mid 30's but I've seen about every animal and creature in the area and even roped black bears! Two terrifying encounters were 1) running into a bull elk during mating season. I was climbing a steep embankment and grabbing branches/rocks when suddenly I thought I heard something, looked up and bam! Giant elk staring right at me. Could feel the ground shake when he walked, and he gave a deep groan that instantly made me shake!
2) running into a bighorn sheep on a trail in Glacier. Was hiking with a sibling and rounded a corner and bam! There he was, just standing there staring at me. Again, my legs were shaking and I was terrified. Just stood there and slowly backed up. He actually walked right past me I could have reached out and grabbed him!
Your channel was just recommended to me and I really enjoy it! I think something that differentiates you guys a lot and something I really like is how you discuss not just the park itself or the animals, but the plants/flora/fauna and even the rocks. It's so refreshing coming across a channel that has interest in the many dynamics and dimensions of our environment!
If you all return to the area and want a good meal with some world class Piedmont beef or bison or just to do some extensive back country exploring with horses and mules just shoot me a message, would love to tag along for a bit!
High winds on ridges is such a crazy time, it's very hard not to be entirely present and it's tough to even think. I've had a few moments like that where it's difficult to admire the view when you are getting pushed by the force of the wind!

After you spotted the grizzly, as you went on down the trail, I was wondering where you'd go for safety if you saw one on the steep trail, up on one side and straight down on the other. I enjoy Andrew identifying the plant life. I love the way y'all pass around the food and drinks. You make me want to go buy some freeze dried meals. Have fun for us all, we love you.

So glad to see you all aware and in action to preserve the environment that exists. Most of us avid hikers and trekkers are so.
I just want to request you all to just google, "the number one reason of deforestation". Saving nature certainly goes much beyond not using plastic straws and avoiding plastic as much as possible(it does make a difference), but also choosing wisely everything that we consume.

I've hiked Glacier on the Canadian side, just as beautiful, and many bears. About to embark on the Red Rock Canyon hike, a ranger drove up and warned us "hold on there is a bear over there". He got out of his truck and chased it away on foot and yelled at it. Thus marked the end of my fear of bears on hiking trails. Any time I ran into a bear hiking over the years, they always took one look and ran away. I choose to believe it wasn't personal :)
I grew up just outside of Two Medicine, and now that I live in the South it was absolutely wonderful to see back home again after over 10 years. Thank you for such a wonderful video

Enjoyed this as I did 3 big hikes in Glacier this past summer. Had one grizzly encounter a few hundred yards away. I also packed the Lost Coast 20yrs ago, that was fun to watch again. Meant to share a picture of the rusted out buoy you saw as we used this for a zipline many years ago.
That was amazing. Couldn't pull myself away for a second. Wonderful footage and commentary.
Wonderful episode! I especially enjoy the botany lessons along the way. I can't tell you how many times I've seen different plants along the trails and have wondered if they were edible. Good job guys..

That is an absolutely awesome adventure. Those are parts of glacier I have never seen and oh my gosh so amazing. You guys are just fun for this 73yr Grandma. lived near and hiked Glacier Park for 35+ years
over 4000 trail miles. over 100 peak summits. over 2500 bike miles. 100's of nights camped, mostly in the back country (and trailheads)
lots of griz sightings and encounters. never a problem. a pleasure, i'd say.
mountain lions, wolverines (found a den and visited it for 5 years), wolves, black bears, and griz in abundance in the back country. both off trail and on trail.
hike wisely. make noise. bring bear spray (never had to use it). don't run. speak calmly.
Beautiful. There is more than a lifetime of adventure in the United States!!!! Im so grateful for National Parks and Wilderness areas

Absolutely beautiful. I didn't want the video to end. The high country and fast moving mountain rivers have always been my favorite images. I showed it to my wife and said, as the tears were running down my face, that this was the best scenery I could imagine. And it made me sad to know that I would never be able to visit here myself because of my travel anxiety. And at 76 yrs of age I'm running out of time. Thank you for bringing this to me and allowing me to at least see this beautiful place.

I too have been to Glacier National Park. And I too have had the misfortune to run into a grizzly. At much closer range. Near our campsite at dusk. It has remained - without question - the benchmark of terror in my life. And I’ve seen a lot.
This was definitely an awesome trip to close out the summer for sure! Can't believe how many bears you guys saw! Putting salt on watermelon is a southern thing I guess. Everyone doesn't in Georgia😅 Not a fan though lol Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Just found your channel and having been to Glacier a few times, enjoyed it immensely. That's the best video of Glacier I've watched. We didn't do that trail but many others including to Grinnell Glacier. Your attitude is awesome, thank you so much. My age and my wife having ALS, our traveling is over😢. So we are so happy to have folks like you take us there via videos. Recognizing some of the spots is priceless.

I work seasonally in Glacier and found this to sate my appetite of missing it in the off season. Glad to see you guys enjoyed it so much. Dawson-Pitamakan is such a great loop. You guys are committed for lugging a tripod the whole way! By the way, I've also caught myself saying "I wish I could bottle this feeling up" during my time in the park.
By the way, the tree that the bags were stapled to were probably white bark pine. The tree is threatened in Glacier due to beetle infestations and blister rust, which have been getting more aggressive due to effects of climate change. White bark pine nuts are an important source of food for the grizzlies. There are efforts to rehabilitate habitat with white bark pine seedlings in the park. I believe the bags are put on trees which seem to have a higher resistance to blister rust, so that the cones can be protected from animals but used to proliferate hardier trees in replanting efforts. It's an interesting push-and-pull since you sacrifice some of the food source to help with the longevity of the species.
