I was driving my school bus, along with another, taking 5th graders from Sacramento to Yosemite for a week. We got stopped by CHP. Had no clue why. The officer explained a movie was being shot and we needed to turn the buses off and windows up. I looked over and seen the engine behind the DeLorean. We watched them starting to push the DeLorean and off we went after it was clear. That was one of the coolest things that I was fortunate to see. That old building in the background was in a 60s film I forgot the name of.
Thought I'd share a fun moment of my life.
    Be safe and happy everyone

That is so cool! You saw movie history taking place! But I have never thought it was fair to the public that they can shut down public roads and streets for private movie making endeavors.

Thank you for the response. When we passed the first CHP Officer, I looked in the mirror and no one else was allowed passed. We were the only ones watching that. I think the CHP seen an opportunity to do something for the kids. I really don't know. It was amazing to watch. Some of the perks of being a school bus driver. You never know.🙂

It is always a joy to hear when someone (like that CHP officer) does something thoughtful and kind...we think you're right! The officer did a solid 'for the kids', and so created a happy, nostalgic memory. Amazing stuff! ☺☺🙌🏻🙌🏻@@dannyboy6754

Back to the future, three was my first first job in the entertainment business because I owned the biggest lathe in Tuolumne county. I had to modify the railroad wheels for the DeLorean, because it was continually derailing when it went over switches, it turned into a 30 year career in special effects.

I worked on the miniatures as well. There were two prop miniature locomotives that were dropped into the canyon in Marin County. The driving wheels were iron castings and they were retrieved. One set is under locomotive number seven at the Tilden Park steam train in Berkeley, California.

As a young girl I got to ride on the train several times. My dad was involved in steam engine and railroad repair. We (my dad’s business) had a round house too dating back to the 1880’s. It was I. Oroville. Now gone. A fire burned it down in the late 70’s.

I was glad to hear Dan Blockers name come up. As a racing fan I remember when he sponsored a sports Racing car in the can-am series that was ran in the 60s-70s. I was not involved in racing until 1979 when I ran my first race at riverside raceway. Dan was beloved by many people not just movie and tv watchers.🤠👍

I really enjoyed when you went there for the festival and meet some of the actors!
It would have been cool if the would have left the #3 on for Back to the Future. It’s amazing these old trains are still around in 2024! Unfortunately Michael J. Fox’s health to took a turn for the worse. I wish him happiness. Back to the future would have been the perfect movie to restart now!
Since I was a kid I loved the sound of the train bells.

Hey Jeff! This is Daniel H. That's awesome that you captured the area of the old mill site! We used to see it while driving on Highway 120 before the fire destroyed it. It's amazing that the fire ring is still there even after all this time. With the couple's retirement, the locals may consider organizing another "Back to 1885" event to uphold the tradition. MJF's stand-in, who lives in the area, expressed interest in adding more DeLorean's to the mix. We'll see what happens!

Another fine program, Jeff! My late mother helped drive Zumwalt family cattle from Altaville/Angels Camp into the summer ranges near Highland Lakes and Folger Peak back in the mid-'20s. Charlie Tryon, a fixture in the Angels Camp community, lived just above the Sierra Railroad tracks as they entered Angels. His dog would run down to the trackside to get the paper that was tossed from the first train from Jamestown in the AM.... Charlie called the Sierra RR into Angels the "Tri-Daily" because it would leave and "try all day" to make it back in the afternoon. At the time, there were various switchbacks the trains had to negotiate to get down to and up from the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River bed (now inundated by the new Melones Reservoir. KEep up the fabulous efforts! Best, PK

Great video. Around 1989 I guess I talked on the phone with elderly technical gun coach and holster maker Arvo Ojala who taught fast draw to Marylin Monroe, Paul Newman, and endless others including Michael J Fox. He told me he was recently working at BTTF 3 on this movie set. I was mad wishing I called earlier as I fantasized that I might have gotten him to let me watch. Ojala also did Three Amigos and you can see “Biff” in this film is wearing a holster that one of the Amigos wore, but on a plain belt. Like a dummy I put off visiting the place before it burned down.

At the very beginning of the clip @ 4:50 the man on the left with his head turned was a local extra who had one speaking word in the movie: “Clara.” That man’s name is Victor Belprez with whom I worked when I was a teenager on Sierra RR excursion trains in the 70’s. Victor tended bar on the trains and later at the St. Charles Saloon in Columbia when this movie was made. Victor was a big, gentle guy who taught elementary school, owned a chimney sweep business and gave good advice to a young me. One of the most magically serene nights of my life was in the early 80’s at the St. Charles during a rare snowfall. The power went out and we sat in the old saloon with the pot belly stove crankin’ and the coal oil lanterns lit, Victor pouring the beer. We had a cribbage tournament with other patrons and left the bar with the trees (and me) lightly dusted and only enough snow on the road to keep things quiet. This is why I love your channel. God bless the History Hunters and God bless my friend Victor, RIP. Many thanks you guys. Great show. Brings joy in ways you probably don't expect. 🙂

The SIERRA RAILROAD was HOLLYWOOD's go-to railroad even though the studios had their own trains and rolling stock... Big movies like DODGE CITY with Errol Flynn, MAN OF THE WEST with Gary Cooper, and TV's CASEY JONES and IRON HORSE...
I din't get to work on BACK TO THE FUTURE II or III, but I did work on the original, even with Eric Stoltz at the start through to Michael J. Fox whilst he was on his sitcom at the same time... boy he had the energy back then!

I remember well the filming of Back to the Future because I am a truck driver and remember being held up on 120 as they didn’t want any vehicles showing up in the background on some scenes... if I remember right the CHP would not allow them to hold traffic for anymore then 20 minutes at a time... and there were plenty of signs warning of the delays ahead so you could take an alternate route

One technical thing to mention. The pipes you saw in front of the roundhouse are fire tubes not water tubes. In a fire tube boiler hot gasses go through the tubes from the firebox to the smoke box and out the exhaust stack. The tubes are surrounded by water in the boiler which is where the heat transfer occurs to make steam.

So cool jeff, I loved this watching the sets and the trains that was used in those sets. partically the train that was used in high noon. loved that. and the caboose that little joe used as well, There was another train used in the tv western show the wild wild west. I do know the inside shots was done on a set tho. but they also had a real train they used in that show. not sure were that train is now. kinda of a shame those movies won't pick up there mess after filming is done tho. seeing the pieces left is just littering the earth more. Thankyou jeff. I enjoyed seeing the sets.

Hi Jeff! Awesome video! As the wife and I watched your video, I told her I didn't remember seeing the neat stack displays when I was up there as a teenager. Then it hit me, you reminded me how old I was, Back to the Future was not filmed yet. :) Oh well, cant stop time. Next visit to see family in Sonora and Columbia, we will stop and check it out. Where's that DeLorean when you need it to go back in time haha.
