hey Sharla, I plan to visit Japan in the near future in spring of 2025. We are going in the sakura season for me and my future husband honeymoon. My question is, I'm wondering where your hostel home is? I don't remember the location of it and we have talked about visiting Osaka first. I don't think the hostel is close but I wanted to ask? Plans might change and where we would like to visit. Plus what do you recommend when visiting Osaka? what is the best location around japan to see the sakura trees?

I would suggest inviting them over for dinner! Sharing food and stories is great way to bond, ask them about the property and sprinkle in a few questions/comments about specific areas you two want to renovate. Even cooking together, have them teach you how to cook their favorite dish, and you cook them yours. Then throw them a few gifts 😉

So A year ago I was fortunate enough to have a short stay at the Neko Neko Inn, and the area really did give me an appreciation for Tokyo I didn't have before. As someone who's always preferred more rural areas, it was a real treat to see that hidden side of Tokyo people often don't know about. I've lived in Kyoto for about a year and a half now, and I adore it. But, due to various complications with my health and debt, I have to go back to the USA for the foreseeable future. One day I'd love to come back to Japan, and as I watch this vlog here, seeing more of a side of Tokyo that I hadn't considered, maybe the next time will be there.
Anyways, so glad to see you so hyped up for your new life in Tokyo, surrounded by friends, and that the cats have taken to it so well! Looking forward to see what else the future brings you!

Forreal, her videos are so calming and cozy. I get the same feeling watching these videos as I do when glancing in the window of a stranger's house. Maybe a weird comparison, but it's that feeling you get when you see a glimpse of someone else's normal life and routine, and it makes you feel like everything is okay, like the world and everyone in it is always moving along?

I am weirdly excited for you two living in Tokyo. ESPECIALLY Chris because whenever he talked about Tokyo in his videos, he always gave off the impression that he truly only thought of Tokyo as Shibuya - Shinjuku - Roppongi and nothing else. In his VLOG, he already seemed to realise that there's much more to the city than that and I hope you guys can check some of the areas west and east of the main wards. I've travelled Japan for a year and regularly stayed in and around Tokyo when I needed a break and there are some absolute gems out there!
Brutal to move there during summer but well, you would have had to experience it at some point anyway. I am sure it's much different in Morioka/Sendai :D

The cucumber thing does work! It brings out the cottony leak, which is a very common fungal disease that affects cucumbers. It's not bad for you but it gives it that classic bitter taste. When you rub two pieces at the top or bottom together the rest of the leak comes out and it removes the bad after taste.

    • @turtles1717
      @turtles1717 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Because I was curious the evening face is a gourd that becomes Kanpyō. It’s used in sushi and noodles from what I could tell. From Wikipedia “Kanpyō (かんぴょう or 干瓢), sometimes romanized and pronounced kampyō, are dried shavings of Lagenaria siceraria var. hispida, a variety of calabash gourd. The gourd is known as yugao (夕顔) or fukube (フクベ) in Japanese.
Kanpyō is an ingredient in traditional Edo style Japanese cuisine. Cooked and flavored kanpyō is commonly used in futomaki sushi roll.”

Hi Sharla, don’t worry about the food that the festival won’t be able to sell.
After two hours food companies have to bin food. It prevents a bacteria that builds a protective layer in hot temperatures from developing in the food.
They would have times cooking it for it to last throughout the festival. The fact they said no means they were thinking of your health. There’s not a lot of places like that.

Hi Sharla, regarding fixing up the rental . . . as a landlord myself, letting the renters renovate is scary because the landlord is taking a risk that your renovation will be beneficial and worthwhile. The landlord may feel a sense of "lack of control" when it comes to paint colors, cabinet hardware and the like so promise him that you'll keep him/her in the loop. Just a suggestion.

How is the soundproofing in a 80s house in Tokyo? I remember Chris always mentioning how badly you can hear everything and everyone around you in his old apartments, and I would be so nervous living in places like those... And how do you deal with making sound in apartments like that, do you tiptop around or go with a carefree attitude since everyone is making sounds that can be heard thru the walls? And do you ever feel like you need to be more quieter than the neighbours, so you don't get "a loud foreigner" stamped on your forehead by those who live around you?

Wait, you've never been to Okinawa???
Chris had better take you for a date out at Ocean Expo Park and maybe also at Mihama American Village. It's been a long time, but that second one may still have a store in it called Dragon Palace that has a giant golden dragon sculpture.
I only lived there for a year but there's so much that I wish I had done. Lots of castle ruins and caves and just so many different things! Me and my friends used to get some dried shredded squid snacks and hang out at the Nakagusuku Castle ruin. Not super ancient, but about 500 years old and made of stone. And the view was spectacular from there!

Ahh that sounds bad😭😭 I would kill for 50% humidity! It’s usually over 75 in Japan 😂

Loved this, looking forward to more Tokyo! And the fineline is so cute, I was always worried about how they'd heal but it looks so good when done well!

This came out great! I love the fake plastic bags for the cats, I should see if I can get one for CC and Pudge. CC loves that crinkly sound, her tunnel is made out of a similar material. :)

I honestly feel so jealous watching videos of people at festivals in Japan.
I so wish more had been going on when I was in Japan back in 2012 and that I could've been back since then, but I sadly still haven't been able to return.
That creamy watermelon looked really nice. Wouldn't mind trying that.
Cold soba noddles really are surprisingly good.
I've been getting Tokyo Treat boxes since June last year and I've gotten 3 cold noodles in them so far, and they've all really surprised me how good they are, though I won't be eating the 3rd one, cold ramen, til summer here in Australia to get the proper experience.
I do keep debating on whether to get Sakuraco or not because, while I'd really like to try the multiple traditional items they provide, thanks to the fact I live in Austrlaia, it already costs me just under $800 for a 12 month Tokyo Treat subscription and Sakuraco likely would cost me the same and over $1600 is not something I can easily do on a regular basis.
Would be nice, getting 2 boxes every month, but I'm not sure the price would be worth it 😅

Your New Home looks fantastic and so did the Amazing Soba Salad . I'm curious about Chris's Blade Runner Room , what is it's fate ,was it all left behind ? Could be a good Video for Chris to do.

I'm with you on the burn factor. I think the arms are supposed to be the easiest could be why also. i'll let you know when I get my tattoo in a couple weeks (i'm getting a pikachu tatttooo). I haven't had anything on my arms so should be interesting also I haven't had a tattoo done in like 10 years so regardless it'll be a change haha.

In addition to some of the suggestions others have made about buttering up the owners, you could always show/share your experience with the BnB! If they have something physical to compare it too, they may be more open to your ideas
