  • In this video, I'm talking about how colour is coming back into interior design in a big way! The fact that IKEA manufactures so many colourful products signals its desire to appeal to Gen Z and the younger market overall. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section! How do you feel about this much colour? Are there any standouts from the collections?

And the two colors together I found absolutely distressing! I didn’t mind the harvest gold though, and actually purchased a refrigerator in that color. I was SO relieved when 1980 brought the natural and organic, neutral colors and shades of brown and off-white.

My mother had a 1950’s style pink kitchen the whole time I lived at home, and my grandparents’ house remained firmly in the 1950’s, so I didn’t live with it to now hate it. Mom did have some harvest gold small appliances, so there’s my issue with that color. lol

Back in 1965 I baby sat for a family of three rambunctious boys. One evening (while the boys were arm wrestling in their mutual bathroom over which one could brush his teeth first), I needed a toilet trip of my own. I decided my only option was to use the master bathroom. To access that toilet area, I had to walk through the master bedroom, which I hadn’t yet seen. The wall to wall carpet in the bedroom was a shag of long fibers, some turquoise blue, others chartreuse green. That color scheme and carpet type were not unusual for the era. What traumatized me was that this carpeting was not only wall to wall, it was ceiling to ceiling. The carpet covered the floor and ran up all four walls, ending at the intersections with the ceiling. I felt liked I’d been swallowed by a sea monster from a Peter Max poster. I decided that I didn’t want to see what decorating nightmare awaited in the master bathroom. I fled into the hallway and waited for my turn in the boys’ bathroom. Messy as it was, I felt much safer there.

I LOVE, LOVE color….the bolder and brighter the better. BUT I don’t decorate with lots of bold color because I get sick of it very quickly.

I'm so completely of your opinion concerning everything!! Especially the rug, the colors and absolutely about the point concerning "form follows function"! A metal chair just for looking cool isn't of much sense (not mentioning the grids on the butt after sitting on it)! I also LOVE metal as material, the plastic overload is absolutely crazy these days, especially as most plastic objects don't have the stylish format of a Verner Panton-product. But: How great that colour is back! A little less of grey, black, monochromatic soup will cheer me up! 😀🤗🌻💖

I am 25 & I have the black version of Dyvlinge chair. They were sold out of the green one, but I am very happy I got the black colour. I have several pieces from this collection since I recently moved out of my parents house & into a 24 square feet studio apartment this year. I filled this tiny space with bright colour & it makes me so happy!

Well, I had FUN watching this one! Flashbacks to my bedroom in 1968 lots of orange (*love that flower power pillow,IKEA!).. then hop forward to my bedspread quilt married in 1973..I was big into yellow! Somehow tho we blended lots of plants. Does anyone remember the natural woods look with ferns and hanging plants ( now the boho hangers) I'm not offended like lots of commenters seem to be about these colors! Live long enough to see them come back twice lol Great memories and none of that is my color today,(*so not me now) but I keep up on trends for my grand kids and I love seeing things come back in style! My house is not "bright", but my sunny thoughts of this video are 😂 Thanks, Nick! So much fun watching!👍🏻

After sitting in the different chairs in the retro collection, I can testify that the SKÅLBODA chair is INSANELY comfortable, especially with a pillow on the seat. The curve is perfect. I literally sat on it for five minutes straight and did not want to keep shopping because it was so nice. The others in the collection were not nearly half as comfortable. I was so surprised.

I love that you said yellow is your favorite color but not in design! I feel validated because my favorite color is deep, sapphire blue but I think it’s ugly with the interior design styles I like! 😂

I had those colors in my bedroom. I sewed curtains made from sheets. A shag rug, a bean bag chair and a Stereo turntable for my 16th birthday. I paid for everything else, because I worked after school. Does anyone remember the 20s resurgence when The Great Gatsby movie of the 70s came out, let’s bring that back.

Exactly. For those of us actually alive back then, we loved "antiques" with real wood and things made with great craftsmanship.

Oh there's definitely a 20s resurgence... But I don't like 20s furniture I like 20s clothes and that came back in the 10s and went away again

That triple cone shade lamp design is from the popular mid-century garden lamp. Any basic geometry shapes like used in the art of Bauhaus has a classic feel that really never goes out of style.... which i think Ikea uses in their design DNA for revolving products.
