Seadoo Clicking - No Start Troubleshooting Opening Fuse Box, Checking Solenoid, Replacing Starter

- If your seadoo won't start and you're just getting a clicking sound, this video shows you a possible solution.
This video is of my 1995 Seadoo SP, but this procedure will be applicable to many Seadoos with 587, 657, and 717 engines. I"m not sure about other engines because I've only worked on those 3 engines. These engines are in most seadoos up until 1996.
Here I remove the Fuse box, test the starter solenoid, remove the starter, test the starter, and install a new one.

I just got the machine running today. Be on the lookout for the next video where I remove the carb, clean it out, change the fuel lines and get it to fire up.

I got my newly yamaha xl760 to fire up by following this video was able to bridge solenoid so i will be replacing

First I’d pull the plugs and see if motor spins. Then I’d use a test light or multimeter and see if power is getting to starter, or out of the solenoid. Very simple starting system but it’s likely the starter because it’s always in water and gets rusty. Good video though.

Great Video I went through the same issue replaced everything still no start found out it was the Charging Coil .....thks 1994 XP 657cc
I have a 92 seadoo gts with the 580. I’m also hearing a buzzing when I’m trying to start. From the fuse box. About to try and replace the solenoid. Hopefully that’s it?
For you to test the Solenoid the key most be on right?
I used this video to fix my See 1996 seadoo bombardier, pretty much same engine. It ended up being the started as well. I replaced it and it worked fine for a few months. Sat in the garage and when I took it back out it started doing the same clicking as it did when the first starter went bad. However this time NO BEEPING just the hateful click click click and I also can't jump the jump the solenoid. Any ideas would be appreciated.

starter relay and then connector and new rectifier, then get an SBT brand starter.
I also replace a seized starter last year. Now this year it is seized again. I'll replace again, however, anyone with advice to prevent starter from failing every year?
@Tibbman if I hear the winding sound when I try to turn it over does that mean the teeth are stripped on fly wheel?
The gear (bendix) on the starter isn't moving out.
I have a seadoo gti 96 I put a crossed key in the solenoid and it starts directly without touching the ignition button but it never starts, do you know what happens?
I have a 2003 seadoo gti with brand new battery and its making the same noise as in the beginning of your video.. I changed starter relay and now it makes a long errrrrrrnt for the duration you hold the Start button.. Im now about to replace starter... Any ideas???
I already change the voltage regulator and the motor still klicks but won’t start … should I change the starter ?
Mine is a 94 seadoo xp and it was running good until it left me stranded in the water, it just clicks now and i hear a little grinding noise but no start, i put a brand new starter but still same thing, what could it be ?

I have an issue with a 98 spx, the starter only engages 1 out of 20 times, I replaced the starter with the same issue. I was told that the starter engages a gear, not the flywheel?
I'm not familiar with your model, but starters are all relatively the same. does the starter spin and just not engage the engine?
it makes a knocking sound when it does not engage, it turns the motor when it engages?
I've never experienced something like that. Do you have a video of what's happening? Maybe the gears aren't engaging properly.
Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it? I have a Polaris jet ski that's doing the same thing.

Is that a 1995 Sea-Doo if so, what is your your panel your gauge panel look like and do you what all do you have gas gauge oil gauge speedometer and what are the plugs look like please? Thank you.
When you try jump it with the wrench did you even get it to spark like by touching both of the terminals together did it spark ?? I’m having the same problem it just clicks. I try to jump the cable coming from the starter straight to the battery with jumper cables and I try to touch both of the cables at starter relay with a screw driver and nothing happens. And it won’t spark when you try touch them together

Yes I did, the cable that went to the starter to the start relay was loose, rust, and corrode on the starter side. The way I figure it out was from the starter relay there are two cables one goes to the battery and the other one goes to the starter. So I follow the cable as close as I could to the starter because the starter is almost under the engine so it’s hard to get your hand on it but anyways once I got close to the starter I shook the cable pretty good and try it to start it at the same time and it would be good for a couple starts and then it won’t start or spark again so I would shake the cable again it would be good. Let me know what you find out

@@Hugo-Hernandez sounds like your wire may be corodded on the inside aswell, take it off and see if it's stiff and crackles in some spots when you flex it

Help! Purchased 1998 GTX Bombadier, replaced battery. Ski turns over without spark plugs in. Need replace starter? Any suggestions?
If the battery voltage is good and the relay clicks and the driveshaft is free to turn, I'd put my money on the starter being bad, especially if it's old. The brushes in them only last so long.
mine doesn't even click man can you please really help me out I have no idea and I tried everything but when I bypass the solenoid it wants to turn over I have no power to buttons but everything is already good cuz I checked it I have no idea if you do it would be really appreciated if you could help me out please and thank you anyone
Okay now I’m positive it’s my solenoid because when I try to run the jetski by pressing the button it just clicks a lot. But once I jump it it runs the starter.

My 96 Seadoo SPI isn't even clicking when started. Ive had it for 3 years and have had 0 problems with it. It sounded like it was trying to start but not firing. After trying and trying, it eventually stopped clicking all together. Hoping its a blown fuse...

OK, I have 92 seadoo sp I thought it was the Silenoid. I replaced the silenoid and the start. It still won't start. I can see the engine move with the click but it won't crank over. Do you have any suggestions?

Would a seized driveshaft cause the engine to not turn over
Yes. A seized driveshaft can be caused by a jammed impeller or a rusty seal bearing
I have 96 zxi and I had problems when I used it for about an hour I get the on click sound and it would not start. so I tried switching out the solenoid and conected backwards😁😩😵 for a few second. now it won't even start and my gauges went out. It will start when connect the postive and negative from the solenoid. Where do you think I can start looking for the problem?
i guess I'm asking if it could be the wiring harness or could it be the cdi??? but snice it still turns over so I'm hoping that means that my cdi is still good?
Can you show what it sounds like broken first so we can see if that is even our problem in the first place

Check if you're getting power to the positive of the starter when you press the button, if you're not it's probably your solenoid.
Same, here. No click but if I cross the posts on the solenoid it will crank. Could it be starter button?

Quick question, My 5 amp keeps blowing every time I connect to battery. with the 5 amp out, I can still jump the Solenoid and get the motor to crank. I've read that the diode may be the problem. Does anyone have any idea how to access the diode for testing? I've also disconnected the regulator rectifier and the 5 amp still blows.
Had the same issue. Turns my stator came apart in the flywheel housing and was shorting the block. If the engine is hot when connected to multimeter, meaning it has 12v, then you have a short to the block somewhere. Unplug something, check multimeter, repeat
