apparently if what I read was right...Dojima was actually considered at being the real culprit initially...but after writing the scenarios of Yu bonding with him during his social links the writers realized they couldn't go through with it, but since they wrote up the scenario that pretty much a cop could be able to do all this, Adachi was made the culprit in the end...his whole incompetent slacker was initially suppose to be the real him and not the act that being the culprit made it out to be lol
This is the best non-spoiled reaction to this part of the story. Persona 4 is still the game I regretted spoiling myself the most because it's the worst kept secret ever.
I remember getting him on the first try purely based on meta-guessing: I thought that Adachi had way too much voice acting for a simple sidekick character who didn't do anything important.
Tbf, the game at this point does a good job at narrowing it down. I still remember when I played this, I pretty much also just blurted out "Adachi", like Miko, without really trying to solve it in my head. The overthinking happens after that and you start being suspicious of the other names because adachi is such an obvious answer. But the real mindfk is what happens next after the Adachi arc.
For me, I really didn't saw it coming, probably cause I was still in HS (I played the original) so kinda not thinking anything. When it came to this decision, at the time I have a local game magazine that have good chunk of walkthrough for P4 (Persona 3and4 was really famous back then) I just open the page for this decision to avoid bad ending and the Magazine just said "to proceed the good ending choose Page 3 Option 3 (yes the Magazine actually not spoiling it). And I just quickly do that and really surprised when Adachi name was on there, I even nees to take 2nd guess lol like "There's no way, am I clickijg the pages to fast?" What a stupid kid I am lol
even better, the previous scene, she already had a feeling that the culprit is part of the police, nailing it down to Dojima and Adachi, she 100 percent trusts Dojima, so...
Took me about an hour to try and narrow down the possibilities. I also had Teddie as a suspect as well, but ruled it out because he had no motive to kill Yamano and Saki. I was getting nowhere going over them one by one pondering if they had motives, particularly with the Social Links who you don’t know very well. In the end, I narrowed it down to who could deliver the warning letters without being suspicious besides Namatame, which led me to either one of the Investigation Team, the Dojimas or Adachi. Ruled out Nanako and Dojima since they wouldn’t kill anybody, ruled out the Investigation Team as none of them had the ability to go into the TV before meeting the protagonist, which made me suspect Adachi. Even I was like “But he wouldn’t kill anyone…Right?” I picked Adachi thinking it might be wrong, but sure enough, Naoto started unravelling the web.
The craziest part is that Yukiko knew about Adachi being the last person to be Mayumi alive and yet she didn’t see the need to bring that up until he was already a suspect.
The first thing I did was cross off any of my social links, as I doubted any of them could be murderers, (keep in mind this was in the vanilla version where Adachi wasn't a SL) I forget her name, but my first guess was that lady teacher who replaced King Moron after he was killed. I figured she killed the first two victims because of jealousy of other women that get more attention than her. I also presumed she convinced Mitsuo Kubo to kill Moron (calling him a hero for doing it) so she could transfer to Yu's class to keep an eye on him. My second guess was Adachi, figuring a police detective would be in a position to silence or cover things up.
That's the problem with this part of the game, they try to make it look like you have so many suspects but after you remove your social links, it's just 2 joke character, then you look back at your social links only 1 name that feels obvious. I get what they were trying to do, but the way they do it is not smart enough. If there was at least 2-3 person who you really can't decide who done it, then it would have really feel like you are smart figuring it out instead of just the basic eliminate all that's not possible and you'll get the answer
At middle story Adachi is too suspect with his action, a normal police won't leak so much important info to these Yui and his school friends, even Yui's uncle won't tell lots info. Either he's so goofy airhead or he's actually a facade guy to trick us
I also guessed it first try at my first play through years ago, but my reasoning is simply because in the opening song video adachi never once show his face 😅
I remember Adachi didn't have a social link in the original P4. It wasn't proof, but just like Miko the more I thought about his actions the more it made sense until I was convinced.
I am bit sad that Miko didn’t finish Adachi’s social link, but Adachi social link is one of the most unconventional ones in the series that occurs in both day and night and the dates are not set in a particular day of the week. At least she finish Marie’s and can do the extra content in Golden.
It's a good mystery. It hits the sweet spot of keeping all the clues subtle enough that you're unlikely to suspect him before then, but it gives you enough information that you can get to the answer as long as you've been paying attention.
Man this reveal was ruined for me cuz I was watching a P5 video where there was a small clip of Adachi being a btch, and my recommended vids were memes of his crazy sprites 😭

Eh, maybe, but I can easily imagine a version of the story where he wasn't the villain but would still be kept on the case because they just don't have the spare manpower to replace him and also because he gets close with Dojima.
well it's hard to get it wrong because all the investigation team minus Teddie who was in the TV wouldn't be the right choice. Dojima put himself in danger the last case and the rest wasn't in the right category to do everything that halted investigation

Adachi was my favorite character throughout the whole game and he had my complete trust up to this point. I actually selected Teddie and Naoto before giving up and checking a guide. Then I played Golden and loved him even more; easily the social link I can relate to most.
I had an easy time with this one for some odd reasons. The first time I saw Adachi I went "Omg, look at this guy's face. And he's at the scene of the crime. I bet he's the killer." This suspicion only got worse when his arcana turned out to be the Jester, but then got derailed at one of the party member kidnappings when I deduced it was the delivery man, which I stuck to all the way until chasing Namatame. So once he got ruled out as a suspect at the end I just automatically fell right back to thinking it was Adachi, which was only confirmed by a lot of the same reasoning Miko went through to suss him out.
Fun little fact: if you think of Dojima, Naoto states that he fits perfectly but excuses it because "he's your uncle". Nice to see familial ties mean murder is exempt from Naoto's justice criteria.
