Just came upon your channel. I too have an above ground pool we installed 3 years ago. I'm 74. I found a TH-cam channel called "Swim University". It has been very helpful in maintaining the balance in our pool. I ended up also taking a water sample to a pool store where they tested the water for free and then made suggestions as to how to clear up our algae problem. We are not obligated to buy from them, but it was easier than trying to figure it out on my own. Love your channel and the work ethic you have. You are so young and on your way to good things. Keep up the good work and enjoy life.

      2nd for @SwimUniversity
Looks like you let the chlorine/bleach burn off, and had an algae bloom.
There is a lot to learn, but once you get the basics down it's pretty easy. Make sure your PH is properly balanced, then make sure you've added enough CYA (stabilizer) to ensure that the sun doesn't burn off the chrlorine/bleach you add. To manage the sanitizer portion, I've been using chlorine pucks instead this year, and it's more expensive but super easy.
Also, a cheap little sand filter is going to work a lot better than that cheap cartrige filter that comes with the pool.

@Floar You got that right. When we were first married, the bathroom watertrap failed, of course late at night. I grabbed a new one in the toolbox, the plumbing tape, and tools and set to it. My husband stood there being the scrub nurse, "adjustable wrench please, tape," with a slightly bemused look. I was in a zone, kind of frustrated because it ALWAYS happens late at night. Done and dusted, I looked up at him and he said "My ex wife would have spent all this time having an anxiety attack, blaming me for the leak". We both started laughing and I said "I grew up poor and fix things".

We have an Intex pool for the grandkids that we put up every spring on a pad on our concrete barn porch deck. Just use a powerful enough pump to properly filter the pool water and add pool supplements to control the algae, balance the ph, and use the chlorine tablet floats. We change our filters every two to three weeks. Our water is as crystal clear today as the first day we put the pool up. We also put a pool cover over the top when not swimming to keep the bugs and junk out. Easy care, inexpensive, and so much fun! Really enjoy your videos!

Get a floating cover for the pool. A floating one is easy to put on it with just one person. It reduces the heat loss by evaporation, it reduces the amount of dirt going into the pool, and it reduces the amount of light hitting the water which reduces the algae growth. Get a flocculant. After adding it let the pump mix the water well, then stop the pump for some hours. That cloudiness of the water is a colloidal solution. The filter cant catch it this way. The flocculant agglomerates it so the filter can catch it. The pH must be around 7-7.2 for that to work. You can literally see it flaking.

  • @FancyCheetahs
    @FancyCheetahs 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

We have had an aboveground pool for 37 years ( the same pool but several liners) . We have a DE filter, use trichlor chlorine (so the sun doesn't burn off the chlorine) and check the cyanuric acid level. After those 2 are at ideal levels, we use borax. Borax will raise the pH and keep the alkalinity stable. Borax will also reduce the amount of chlorine needed to sanitize the water. Test the water frequently.

@@donnaflynn9615thank you Donna I did get something called Yellow-out after my second attempt with it, many times vacuuming to waste, and keeping chlorine really high, I think it may finally be beat. Fingers crossed. 😅

Tip for removing posts. Screw some scab piece of wood about 6" above the ground then use a jack to lift the post out lifting on the scab piece of wood. Depending on your jack you might need to use a couple 2x4 onto each other.

Green is a nice color! I never had a project that went perfectly the first time. I'm waiting on new upholstery material for my ottoman because the stuff I bought on clearance is SHREDDING as I apply it. The cats want the first try at that, not me.

I had a smaller vision of this type pool growing up as a girl in Oregon. Me and my friends spent hours in it playing mermaid and other games, going from side to side. Mine was on a metal frame and only 4 feet high as I remember it. Yet best part of my childhood.

Just happened upon your channel and watched the last video and now this one. Looking good, but my (73 yr. old) OCD kicked in and I can't stop seeing that you did not check the corner support pool poles to make sure they weren't angled in. The corner pole closest to the privacy fence and new wall is in further at the bottom than it should be. This might sound nit-picking, but that's not what I'm trying to do. You two are a cute couple and I look forward to watching your other videos.
      Take care, Patricia

THOSE CHEAP FILTERS...are easy to reuse. Simply take it out, spray it off, wash it with Dawn Original, and let it dry in the sun. I had 3 of them and kept them on rotation all summer. Not one problem. I got 3 new ones every season. I also had one of those floating puck holders...that helped with the multiple of people that came over and dirtied up the water faster. I would let it float at night and take it out during the day with kids where in it as they wanted to play with it. I had no desire to have there little faces right up on those chemicals. XOXO Althea Also, newly subd.

Sweet channel with a sweet couple. Let me tell you what changed my life a few years ago. I've had an above ground pool for over 40 years and battled algae and cloudy water until I ALMOST gave up. Hundreds of $$ in chemicals, all the aggravation and it seemed like I was swimming in a weird soup. I FINALLY discovered solar ionizers!! OMG! Blessed relief from all the bullcrap of 'getting the water right'. Very cheap too. Maybe $80 if that. I have a 20 ft. round and all I use is 2 floaters for chlorine tablets (sanitizer) and that's it!! I was stunned and delighted. My life got soooo much easier. My pool is literally crystal clear. You can read the date on a quarter on the bottom. Okay, with that being said, the ONLY way to clear water if you do get an algae bloom is to shock it and use a flocculent to drop the dead algae (follow directions on bottle). Don't try to vac to waste, use the syphon method and drain over the SIDE of the pool. You'll lose some water but its worth it. Dead algae is like silt. I do use a sand filter for filtration which does a great job. Do yourself a favor and get a solar ionizer. It is the bomb!

We've had a large Intex pool. Ours looks like it has thicker lining but you guys will be surprised how long the liners last. Otherwise, they'd just constantly end up in landfills. We've had ours for about 8+ years and it still looks brand new.

POST HOLE DIGGERS... Always lay a good size rock near where you are emptying your dirt. Use the rock to smack the dirt down and off the blades. Just a hint from being on the business end of posthole diggers on the farm as kid.

You really need to look into a copper ionizer for the pool.after struggling all last year with controlling algae blooms, We added a solar powered copper ionizer into the pool this year and we haven't had a bit of algae trouble at all, plus it cuts down on the chlorine needed.

I really enjoy your channel, having become aware of it when you built the Murphy bed on Ambition Strikes.
Here’s a hint on getting posts out of the ground easily and undamaged.
Wrap a chain or strap around the post close to the ground and place an inflated tire next to the post. Run the strap over the tire and attach it to your tractor. Drive away from the post and watch as the tire follows the tractor and pulls the post straight up and out of the hole.

Can I just say my favorite part of this video was at the end when you showed the green pool 🤣 I believe it was the last video that you said it would be about $100 for chemicals per season. That made me laugh bc I was thinking yea right, wait until their pool turns green. I have a 20' pool that's 4 1/2' deep & let me tell you it gets expensive!! I went out of town for a week and came back to a green pool and I've spent $250 on chemicals getting it back to where it was before I left. Yes, I do still have some chemicals left over but I'm now on week 2 since I've been back & it's clean but super cloudy so I just put flocc in it and am vacuuming in the AM hoping that will do the trick. Anyhow good luck & I just subscribed, love doing projects around our house too! Oh & imo you don't need salt water, i'd get a sand filter pump (mine is 1,500gal) & use the poly balls instead of sand, so much easier!!

Get a floating skimmer, a mesh bag and some Mr Clean magic erasers. Place the skimmer on the pool near the water exit to filter opening. I'm the skimmer place a small mesh bag with several COPPER pennies in it and a magic eraser. The copper pennies keep algae from forming and the magic eraser catches any algae particles that may be floating in the pool. Your water needs to be PH balanced to 6.8-7.2 in order for your pool chemicals to work and you'll want to shock the pool with half a pound of shock whenever it rains and once a week for maintenance.
Do all these things and your should not have an algae problem at all.
