Great job bro. Never in my life have I seen one man dig a normal size pool with shovel and wheelbarrow Kudos to all your hard work. Pool looks great. Hope you and your family enjoy it for years to come.
My Dad had an in ground pool originally built with a vinyl liner in his 60’s. Instead of using the company who built the pool when the vinyl died he decided to build a fix himself. So he then had a hole in the ground as you did, he also built the walls using cinder blocks. Back then there was not a way to use the fiberglass as you did. (Great ideas by the way) I do not remember what he did for that part. He used Portland cement as it makes a whiter finish than regular concrete. He did paint his white. He was lucky to already have the pump, plumbing, etc. They really enjoyed it for years.
Congratulations, a young man with talent and conviction that nothing stop him to accomplish his dream. Is rare to see this character today! thanks for sharing.
That is a well deserved pool and i like the end result. I think a tile feature strip would look good on the edge of the pool and tile the steps. Just my opinion.

Absolutely fantastic work, sir. This is pretty much a perfect TH-cam video!! No fancy editing, no dramatic music. Just an amazing human being himself. We need more stuff like this.
I didn't hear you mention but hopefully you used stainless screws/nuts etc. where needed. You could sand the fiberglass to make it smoother (might have missed that part too if you did). I'd add an area at least 4 feet wide all around the pool to walk on so that dirt and grass don't end up in it. Even a wood deck would be good, save your filter system. Hope ya had a good summer in there. Good job man! 🇨🇦
I kept thinking he needed a walkway around all through the build. You’re gonna’ be constantly skimming to keep grass out, I think. I’m sure something like this and landscaping could be added for years to come. What a beautiful job, overall. What dedication and logical thinking!
Very impressive! I was unaware that dry stacking of concrete block would actually work, but it clearly does. The only thing I would do differently is to add a bullnose profile on the leading edge of the concrete steps. Having done countless concrete projects in my lifetime, I know what hard work it actually is. Dr Kun Daniel makes it look easy, a testament to his very impressive expertise!
There is a process called surface bonding that allows for mortorless bonding of blocks. The first course is bedded in mortar and leveled. All other courses are dry stacked and leveled with small shims of wood or even paper. After they’re stacked they’re soaked with water and they’re then parge coated with a layer of surface bonding cement made of Portland cement and chopped fiberglass. You can make your own or (here in the us) buy it from the home center. You can coat just one side but two sides are more than twice as strong. It was originally developed for water proofing cisterns.
For whom it may concern: Fibreglass with Top Coating is pretty common in Europe for swimming pools. BUT.... DON"T use BLUE top coat! It may sound kinda strange, but use WHITE (RAL9001) top coat color! Once filled with water it will look like a tropic ocean!
Ever since I can remember watching a pool or a pond being dug and built has always been something I love to watch. Thank you for sharing this with us, this is truly a labor of love. I pray you have many fun filled summers swimming and no sun burns lol.
VERY inspiring!! You should make a deck around it (something small to isolate it from the rest of your garden, you can also fit a coffee table with some chairs for nice breakfasts)

This is incredible! 😍 What an impressive project. The step-by-step guide was detailed and interesting. Building a 9.5m by 4.25m concrete pool by yourself in just 1200 hours on a low budget is truly inspiring. Thanks for sharing your hard work and creativity with us, Dr. Kun Dániel! #DIY #pool #amazing
i think it came out great, for not being a professional pool builder. it's great. you have a few small things to work out. but you have a great foundation to build on. I don't know if you thought about this yet. but you can always tile that pool.. it will clean up the block work you mentioned. and also water proof it more. they have a liquid membrane that you can roll on to the walls and the floor. then you can tile directly over it. I know it's an added expense but you can do it maybe next year. but all the hard work is completed. enjoy your success.
@@viannarts Yes, although maybe the paint would have to be sanded first for a better bond, I'm not sure. You could use silicone adhesive to attach tile though, it should work well.
Much respect! Such commitment and determination. Enjoy the water. Enjoy the stress of your day melting. Thank you for whatever type of doctoring that you do. Blessings 🙏🏽 I see the divine in you.
I'm always very envious of all these DIY people on TH-cam who have have easy to dig backyards. I even think about digging in my back yard and 3 of my shovels and a mattock break. My yard is practically solid rock at roughly 400mm down so I can't dig too far unless I have hired machinery. Outstanding effort by the way, Ripper of a job!
I live in Florida. where Im at anything below 12"-22" is fossiled coral rock, aka limestone. Like, Ive installed a fence where we pulled a 4-1/2" x 5' foot limestone boulder and had to pickaxe it into smaller chunks to then refill around the post hole so the soil around it wouldn't collapse. Digging here, even with an auger is a giant pain-in-the-ass.
Well done and I enjoyed watching every single minute of the build. By the way I'm watching from USA and I don't think the land of the free would allow us to build our own pool the way that you did with how ridiculous building codes have become here. I sincerely hope that you get to enjoy the fruits of your own labor for many years to come. I applaud your hard work and dedication 👏
Yes, I know, I received a lot of criticism about the 220V. As an electrical technician, I do not consider it any more dangerous than the circulation pump, but I will replace it with a 12 or 24 V one.
Great job! I like it a lot. Need to add some concrete pavers around the outside of it I think though. It would really reduce the amount of grass & dirt getting into the pool :) Be a nice aesthetic too.
I probably wouldn't DIY the electrical, but after thinking about it, you're probably at low risk because you generally won't be in a position to complete a circuit, so even if there is an electrical fault you might not even feel anything. The thing I would be scared of is the wall collapsing (cracking), especially without any gravel backfill, but maybe keeping the pool full of water will provide enough counter pressure it's not a problem. I love the idea of using fiberglass, but I'd be worried about the resin lasting in the sun even with a UV resistant formula. I really enjoyed the video, I hope you make a followup in a year or two just to say "hey everything is still working".
The boat is made of the fiberglass I use. UV stable for decades. Looks good so far. I thought the resin would separate from the concrete. He could not. 220 V lighting cannot actually form a circuit with its contents. And the leakage current relay disconnects all problems immediately. The water in the pool has the same potential as the soil. But I got a negative comment, so I would rather change it to a 24V or 12V system.
Your pool looks amazing. Well done! Even if it is a year overdue because of your broken leg, it is still worth your time and effort. A lot of hard work now gives you a very cool reward in the Summer time. 😉👍
Lots of hard work to be sure but with amazingly beautiful results. Love your budgeting. Here in Canada that is a 14,000 to 20,000 dollar pool. Good video as well. Thanks for posting.
Great job for that small budget, a tip: don't amp the pump up to 10m³/h, the pressure in the sandfilter will be too high causing it to wear faster and most importantly the filtration of the water will be decreased since you're sucking the water through the sand much faster and with higher pressure, it will create channels in the sand. It's better to filter at 7m³/h for longer hours.
The home made lights are not that safe I would have liked to see lots of silicone used for the two holes in the cup to run the plastic insulator. Still I would run a very low truck battery voltage on that pool wiring for the lights with a GFCI circuit in case water were to penetrate the wiring then nobody would be electrocuted to death. Never cheap out on electrical for pools where water is concerned and people and kids going to swim in it.
I received a lot of criticism for the 220V lighting. As an electrical technician, in my opinion, it is no more dangerous than the circulating pump. But I will replace it with a 12 or 24 v system.
Nicely done. I would have done certain things differently, but it doesn't matter, you nailed it. The ONLY thing I must comment is that covering the whole pump space with concrete and leaving only a small manhole was not the best idea. I would have covered it with a larger manhole cover (I see you managed to do it for a smaller one). But yeah, I congratulate you!
Yes, this also gives me a headache. I got an acid container from which I want to make the sand gravel. The diameter of the container is 65 cm and the expiration date is 58 cm....
Respect to your dedication! I think I would have reduced the size immediately after digging for a couple of minutes. Either to save Material to rent a digger, or at least to dig less. :D Subbed and liked, thanks for making a video of your Project
Awesome. love your vision and perserverence to just get it done. I wonder if your concrete estimation shortfall included multiplying by a factor of 1.3 for wet volume vs dry volume of materials.
Yes, the referenced m3 values do not refer to dry material. For example, about 9m3 of concrete went into the foundation. This required about 11 m3 of gravel and 2.8 tons of cement.
I like it when people bring up this topic... In an interesting way, no one has been bothered by the fact that the circulation pump is also 220 as. However, it is still in contact with the water on the metal part and is present as an inductive load. It somehow doesn't bother people because it works silently. almost everyone mentions the spectacular part that lights up. Please tell me what happens if the phase gets on the water and someone is inside... Nothing. There is full PE coverage with separate earthing probes with life protection relay. But if they weren't there, no one would be electrocuted even if one of the phases was exposed to water. However, the water has a one-to-one ground potential, even though there is a plastic pool wall, everything is connected to the ground probe in the case of metal parts. I am a high current electrical technician. Obviously I'm not going to make my own pool life-threatening...

Granted, I thought you were absolutely nuts digging for three months, but after all that blood, sweat, and tears, you deserve this beautiful pool more than anyone. Fantastic job. I hope you make many fond memories with family and friends around that pool.
Wow he really dug his pool by hand. That's impressive.
Just watched an hour of a Hungarian dude making his own pool. I totally loved it. Kudos to you. Really great job, good entertainment and you seem like a swell dude.
Greetings from Cologne. Much love and respect!
looks amazing. that's something to be proud of for sure. I suggest making a patio on the side of it next.
I am absolutely impressed by the way you strategised everything showing alot of compassion towards this project. I find that your motivation and fantastic workmanship is a rare find these days. Congratulations, your pool looks amazing.
You are working this hard for a pool and celebrating. Well done sir. People here are complaining about the cost of living, and sitting on their backsides ordering uber eats. The contrast is stark.
Dr. Daniel is a throwback to the best of humanity
Nobody in the world deserves this pool more than you. My greatest respect, sir.
That was a very ambitious project. I applaud you for taking that on and making your dreams come true!
I built a pool by myself - and I agree. It is work, it is fulfilling and it is fun... but it takes time. Would I do it again? YES!!
Clicked out of curiosity, stayed to watch the whole video, Hello from South Africa. Nice pool, well done !
I truly admire guys like you.
It’s obvious you have a tremendous amount of talent and knowledge.
Usually when I do small projects around my house, when I’m done, it LOOKS like I did it!!!!
Great job.
Hope you enjoy your pool for many years to come!!
I love this. Taking control of your dreams and accomplishing what you desire. You identified your goal and worked to make it happen. I can only assume at least 1 person tried to discourage you at some point, but you overcame all obstacles. Excellent! I am sure this will lead to even more steps on molding the life you want to live. Congratulations.
This really is the best pool build on TH-cam
If this guy can trade 3 months of his life by digging with a shovel I can spend 59 minutes on my couch watching him 👍
I cheered when that pool got finished, strong work!
What an amazing project, it was absolutely incredible, I had a cinder block pool and it had 1/2 inch padding and a drop in liner, but that liner was $2,500 to have made and installed, and that was 20 years ago, well done sir.
Nice work. My dad let me and my brother build a pool/pond. Took us 2 years every day after school. But we live out in no where in Ohio, so we didn’t have to worry about a government official telling us what we can do on are land. Keep up the great work.
How did the pool/pond turn out? Any pictures you could share?
*our
why would the government care if you weren't in outback Ohio?
@@MobileICTHengelo Here in Western Australia, I wanted to remove a small pool (kids have grown up and the liner was old ) you need a structural engineer to oversee the removal, and inspection report for the backfill compactness tests and a council inspector to final inspect.
Maybe build a green house over your pool so you can swim year round and have plants. You really did great!
When you build something yourself, you know where all of the mistakes and flaws are. The fiberglass job on the bottom and sides looks better than you think it does. BRAVO!
Thank you great job good things take hard work.Beautiful country. Im thankful for you tube for making it possible for us to know our brothers in a different country.Just starting to learn how to properly use the internet ,again thank you and enjoy your great creation.
Incredible. That was a lot of work. But worth it. I admire your fortitude. So nice to see such a beautiful finished project. Glad you invited your friends to a pool party. Enjoy‼️
Wow. This is one of the most incredibly complex DIY projects I've ever seen on youtube. Bravo.
Absolutely fantastic work, sir. This is pretty much a perfect TH-cam video!! No fancy editing, no dramatic music. Just an amazing human being himself. We need more stuff like this.
Slow clap. Legendary. Mind blown. Congratulations to you sir. They will sing your name in the Halls of Valhalla.
The best part of this is seeing how a dream turns to reality through planning, intense grit and hard work. Well done. I hope TH-cam pays for your pool
🇨🇦
All very great valid points! Much love from 🇺🇸
I kept thinking he needed a walkway around all through the build. You’re gonna’ be constantly skimming to keep grass out, I think. I’m sure something like this and landscaping could be added for years to come. What a beautiful job, overall. What dedication and logical thinking!
Cement deck would be good.
I'm also surprised by the dry stacking, it gives me several ideas. Great job, you have to be really determined to achieve stuff like this.
it works but its better to glue them down, that way you can get them leveled, something dry stacking wont.
Thanks for the info, very helpful!@@jamespayne8781
I too wanted to suggest a bullnose edge to finish off his beautiful pool!
Yeah the color looks weird.
Ever since I can remember watching a pool or a pond being dug and built has always been something I love to watch. Thank you for sharing this with us, this is truly a labor of love.
I pray you have many fun filled summers swimming and no sun burns lol.
The masculine urge to build a swimming pool in your farm by yourself.
VERY inspiring!! You should make a deck around it (something small to isolate it from the rest of your garden, you can also fit a coffee table with some chairs for nice breakfasts)
Gave you a thumbs up. You have a wonderful sense of humor and I love your charming use of the English language. My favorite...."After three months I had a big hole in my back yard." Hope your channel grows and grows.

The spade is my scepter!
If I was making a pool like this, No. 1 on my list is a mini excavator. You have my never-ending respect for digging this by hand.
🧠💪🤝🇬🇧 Well done very proud of you 🙋♂️ Nathan and family 💜.🙏
Best thing I've seen on youtube this year!
HUGE RESPECT to you for hand digging your site…
Great work man well done!!!! Been saying to the wife for ages I can build our pool out of concrete blocks, formwork carpenter here. I've just bought a 1T excavator I'll be using to do basically the same as what you've don't. Well don't mate from Queensland Australia.
Thanks! Good luck with your project! :)
This is the best DIY pool video I've seen yet. Thank you for sharing!
I watched every minute of this video. I can not believe you actually dug that out by hand! Nice job and congratulations. Excellent video sir.
i think it came out great, for not being a professional pool builder. it's great. you have a few small things to work out. but you have a great foundation to build on.
Can he tile it directly over the fiber glass? cheers
@@viannarts Yes, although maybe the paint would have to be sanded first for a better bond, I'm not sure. You could use silicone adhesive to attach tile though, it should work well.
Wow, such a wide pool with plenty of swimming space to enjoy!!
Much respect! Such commitment and determination. Enjoy the water. Enjoy the stress of your day melting. Thank you for whatever type of doctoring that you do.
Blessings 🙏🏽 I see the divine in you.
I couldn't disagree with you more about the stair sections being boring... watching each stair reveal was incredibly satisfying
Your dedication to this was awesome to watch I'm not sure there is too many people that would dig that hole let alone all by themselves!
I'm almost offended that he complained that digging was difficult. The soil in his yard is practically pure clay.
@@K1L0W0G You want clay? You should see my city in NZ. This soil looked like the perfect sand/clay mix for digging.
Yep, that soil is butter.
Amazing job - congratulations on your hard work and great design!
Csodálatos munka - gratulálunk a kemény munkához és a jó mérnöki tervezéshez!
INCREDIBLE WORK AND DISPLAY OF MANPOWER
Not bad, in australia, we just get a wide rainwater tank and cut the top off of it; instant pool.
What incredible commitment and work ethic!
If you make it look like a pond you can bypass lots of stuff :) Atleast thats ewhat I'm hoping as i dig mine haha
I’m not gonna live somewhere wer I have to ask permission with wat to do on my property. That’s y I live n the country
Great job....but why didn't you use low voltage LED's? Those are 110/220V no?
Yes, I know, I received a lot of criticism about the 220V. As an electrical technician, I do not consider it any more dangerous than the circulation pump, but I will replace it with a 12 or 24 V one.
the best part was the end.. enjoying the pool with friends, with beers in hand!
Good job. I appreciate that you mentioned that all was not a straightforward process with no problems.
Great job! I like it a lot.
Need to add some concrete pavers around the outside of it I think though. It would really reduce the amount of grass & dirt getting into the pool :)
Be a nice aesthetic too.
Yes, this is indeed a problem. And I want a durable cover for next season and a square cover in the future
Came looking for this and glad to see your answer. Pool electrocutions happen, switch to 24v please👍🏻
Your pool looks amazing. Well done! Even if it is a year overdue because of your broken leg, it is still worth your time and effort. A lot of hard work now gives you a very cool reward in the Summer time. 😉👍
Ok, I watched the first 20 seconds of the video and I'm trying it right now in my backyard
For someone with little skill, this is respectable. Thanks for the effort of sharing this.
You are a talented guy...not sure about the safety of the homemade lights but I wish you the very best. That took a ton of hard work.
They're actually the safest part of them all. I can't imagine what it took to solve fiberglass leaks
Lots of hard work to be sure but with amazingly beautiful results. Love your budgeting. Here in Canada that is a 14,000 to 20,000 dollar pool. Good video as well. Thanks for posting.
In Canada? I think you could add a zero to those figures for real!
14-20.000 not enough Buddy min 40-50.000!
Most people would have given up after they shit their self, but you sir powered on!! You can tell a lot of hard work went into this, outstanding job!
The definition of work harder not smarter. Well done!
Did you mix up the saying or are you just being rude? 😂
Absolutely amazing. Just the pure patience you have. God bless you!
Back in the states we love this do it yourself stuff. Excellent work.
This is Amazing! 👍
Well done, you did an incredible amount of work!
Worst case scenario, I have a pool. The mindset behind all my diy projects. Sick job. All the props to you brother. Can’t say enough.
Looked a bit like river water rather than pool water at the end.. Aweaome job tho!
@@kundaniel I agree, good choice🙏
he did have an RCD (residual current detector) breaker in his circuit, which is the same as a North American GFCI (mentioned at 44:04).
The dedication to the finished pool is amazing.
This is probably the biggest DIY Balkan project I ever watched, nice work!
Respect to your dedication! I think I would have reduced the size immediately after digging for a couple of minutes. Either to save Material to rent a digger, or at least to dig less. :D
Subbed and liked, thanks for making a video of your Project
Awesome. love your vision and perserverence to just get it done.
Nice and I hope this goes viral as well 😊
Thank you! :)
I am always amazed by people who can build stuff from scratch. Great work! Thank you for sharing.
Started from a patch of grass, to have a great place to relax with friends in the summer. Awesome!!
Man i hope there is no fualt in the pool lights.... thats your life right there 😮....
@@kundaniel The pump isn't isolated by a home made enclosure from pipe.. Use LEDs please. 12v LED should be safer
