based on those tests at Sebring, i don't think that Porsche will be able to keep up with Audi and Toyota this year. Let's see what will happen during the official tests at Paul Ricard this week.
That Audi sounds WAAAY better than the previous diesel generations. It's still insanely quiet, but what (relatively) little noise you actually hear makes a note that's much higher. In fact if I didn't already know it was a diesel, I'd assume it was just a lower-revving gasoline engine based on the sound alone.
I've read that at the official 4-hour test in the Circuit Paul Ricard, Porsche, while having the best fuel efficiency they still managed to do the best overall lap times... Now it's all about a crash-less race and the win is theirs...
Yep. Brand new front hood : -much larger nose than before, maybe better downforce; -new openings behind the front wheels to keep hot airflow from the wheels on the side. On the side: - 2 new carbon slides to create a better vortex I think; - sides are more linear than before; -a new hole behind the back wheels whereas the front one doesn't exist anymore. New update on the back hood: -less curvy lines on the tail; -tilted carbon blades on the wheel's air extractor Finally, the air intake on the top was redesigned, a little bit smaller and more circular. Seems to be a low drag package (?)
Germain Jarrossay Didn't notice anything new about the nose but the side pod has been redesigned. The top of the side pod is now flat and completely flush with the trailing edge of the front fender. The front diffuser air extract has some new, larger turning vanes as well. The vent on the trailing edge of the wheel arch is very similar to the Audi's.
Word from Porsche is that the car they tested at Sebring is their actual season race car. The car we'd seen test previously was a mule that won't be run in race trim.
Porsche have chosen to run in the highest energy recovery category, so a lot of pace is actually comming from the hybrid system. There is also the fact that it is a V4 engine. the v is important as it means that the engine is easier to balance, and power deilvery is smoother. It also could be the compression ratio of the cylinders, if they've got in the sweet spot there will be bigger explosions so more power output.
I'm amazed how Porsche is able to produce such technology in only a 4 cylinder car. Nice to see them back, from a beauty perspective the Audi looks best imo, some how I don't think Porsche will alow Audi to get the upper hand any more since coming back and being the bigger brother of the VAG.
While what Porsche has done is stunning and I am impressed w them as a company.. in this test at least.. the Audi looks faster, more stable, more sorted seems to have a ton more downforce.. and he drivers seem to be able to take a faster line through the corners.
Around Silverstone they were just as quick as last year, but on the faster circuits like Le Mans and Spa they are expected to be even quicker than last year
Awesome! I can't wait to see the porsche vs the audi in the race. Should be one of the most competitive lmp1 races in a while.

that RSR sounds cool.
I can't wait for the LM24
Awesome video
Thank you, thank you sooo much for rhis video man :)
Ps. New R18 looks more badass than ever !
...close ratios on the Porsche 919's gearbox. As much as i love Porsche, my heart is with Audi. Great Video THANK YOU!

The lmp2s are sounding better than the Lmp1s. Both are as jaw dropping as ever!
Super belle Porsche et beau bruit !! Vivement les 24 heures ;)
Holy shit. You are the best, man.
Porsche looks really fast.919 amazing
apparently, Lotterer did a 1.42.6 in the '14 R18 etron during this endurance test, confirmed by a German paper
ufff that 991 rsr sounds amazing
Audi sounds like spaceship with Warp Drive

Amazing!!!! But where is the TSO40???
I wish. They don't seem to be interested in testing here, but I think their race team runs on a much smaller budget than Audi and Porsche.
The Porsche definitely has some updated aero from what they have released in photos.
Yep.

Nailed as always, Mr. Turtle!
I love LMP1 cars!!
That's just outstanding.
super awesome video thank u for sharing
How did Porsche do that ?
No Flames, No Everything but Amazing Power Output from this 4 !! Cylinder.

Charlie Gould
Oh ok, thanks for the Awesome Answer.
Charlie Gould Agree, except smothness; inline engines are actually better at that.
Igor Vyshnyanchyn Yea, I think it has more to do with the packaging. As for smoothness, nothing beats a V12 or I6. (=
Nothing beats a v12 full stop. Unless we're talking fuel consumption. In which case the v12 is probably not the best option.......
Thanks for sharing, great stuff!
It's no 962 in the looks department but it sounds pretty wild (the 919)

Rafal Nova Nissan and Honda also... it will be a mega battle...
They sound like damn aeroplanes!
this was at 12 hours of sebring? i don't remember seeing it….
This was from a test a week before the 12 hour race. They didn't run in the actual race.
Who was faster, the BMW or the Porsche? :D
Are this year's LMP1 cars much slower than last year?
Around Silverstone they were just as quick as last year, but on the faster circuits like Le Mans and Spa they are expected to be even quicker than last year
***** well that's at Silverstone, a high-downforce circuit with no long straights, 186mph is incredibly quick. The 919 did 343kph at Paul Ricard.
thx mate ;) you are the best!
Why the Porsche don't have a flat 12? :(
Flat 12's disappeared in the 1980's. Plus, current regulations favor fuel efficiency, hence the 4 and 6 cylinder hybrid powertrains.
Okay but the sound was so better :3.
***** sorry but nothing beats the sound of a six cyl with discplacement and boxer flat construction
PORSCHE for Life! :)
Do you mind if I use a few seconds from this footage to a compilation video I'd like to make?
I don't mind. But only if you subscribe to my channel ;)
Lanky Turtle Deal :)
How does a gasoline powered car and a diesel powered car sound so similar?
In this case the turbo muffles a lot of sound produced by the engine, however petrol and diesel sound highly differ in sound actually.
Just me or does the diesel sound better?
hmm.. Audi and Porsche testing together? I smell shared secrets...
If it is racing I love it
Very Cool
Amazing :)
so i like this sound, it's a 4 cylinder, but sounds like a fucking fighter jet!
It's not an Audi, it's a fighter :D
just read where toyota putting out close to 1000hp, the 'good old days' are back. F-1 needs to catch-up. can't wait for le mans showdown.
I read that too. 473HP of electric boost, seems absolutely crazy to me. Almost as much power as the "real" engine.
Audi For The Win!
99 days 17 hrs 41 minutes
dat 991 :3
Too bad neither will be racing at the 12 hour this year.
Porsche 919 engine sound is the biggest joke in racing 2014. More silent than a diesel. Is it a 1.0 L Turbo engine they use?
In other news, turbocharging and ERS stuff both work as a muffler.
2.0 L Turbo V4. It still does produce around 650 bhp with it's KERS system.
have you heard F1 engines?
have you SEEN the new F1 cars...? The tech in LMP1 cars is much more exciting anyways.
I was asking to bsj414
LOL!the audi is almost louder than the porsche
too quiet, no personality, nice video however.
Where is the NOISE????
LMP1 And F1 sound soooo shit!!
Just wait til Formula E starts up!
If it is racing I love it
