I'm laughing so hard at the MRE unpacking, it's like Christmas morning in a bunker. Hot sauce?! there IS a Santa!! Thank you for all of your videos, you're all amazing!
OMG! I’m laughing like a fool here all by myself! This video is hysterical. And then after the molecular gastronomy fiasco you end by @ask some idiot” over!🤣🤣 Merry Christmas! Enjoy your holiday!
Hands down, one of your best episodes ever! Died laughing over the gold/silver painted grapes. Don't even get me started on the MRE segment. Absolutely love, love your channel... So glad I found you. Thx!
I'm the 100th LIKE. So much fun to watch Randy when she's really fired up dramatically: "really HATEFULLY-named pumpkin spice". Never knew how to make a sugarplums. Yeh, did the wooden spoon in blender making mayonaisse and it was a first time date event. That was a fun clean up and good impression -- we were together 10 years.
I can never tell if I want Randy to be my mother or my girlfriend... and isn't that really the sweet spot for a cooking show that does so much to entertain/motivate/civilize? Thanks as always. Much love!
Thank you very much for this delightful episode. I love them all, and always learn something! Merry Christmas to you and Leonard and all your family and crew from Toronto, Canada. Can't wait for next episode.!!!
I love this! Also about the MRE instructions on water.... In the field, they have to source water from where they can get it, so they have to treat the water before they can use it or get sick... they can use water purification tablets sometimes... which is "chemical purification"... the impurities in the water clump together and are neutralized then they settle to the bottom of whatever container. They can just decant the part they'll use... which is why the water needs to "settle" or "stand" for some time after being treated with tablets. So I think they mean with "Allow water just chemically purified to stand..." would be to highlight water that had just "now at this very moment been treated" should settle for thirty minutes before you use it and not just dump it all together in the MRE immediately after you treat it... Lest you eat chunks of tablet and impurities with your MRE... which I did before... We ate these as an exposure/ immersion activity in school...
My extended family is visiting from out of town this weekend, and this was a much-needed dose of comfort to counteract the stress and tension. Thank you for this, Randy. ❤
Randy - A HUGE MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND THE WHOLE DPT TEAM!!! As always it's fantastic to spend time with you via your videos, especially at this time of the year. My Christmas present to you is to recommend Target's organic cheesecloth. Buy your cheesecloth at Target - it's a thousand times better than regular cheesecloth! And a Happy New Year.
Thanksgiving 2021, we did not serve meat and it was very nice. Future Christmas for 2021 for our family is about flavors and textures, no meat again. Love it!
Ok I just finished watching. You are both hilarious and profound. Thank you for sharing your gifts and happiest holidays to you and the entire dinner party tonight team!! And also to Leonard!!
Hello, Randy and DPT team! If you have kids in the family, the sodium alginate and calcium chloride makes an excellent experiment called “alginate worms.” That is direct spherification, the opposite of the reverse spherification you performed here. What you did was use sodium alginate, the gelling agent, in the setting bath. The alginate is what causes the balls to form. You created a solid on the outer shell of the sphere when you dropped the calcium chloride base into alginate bath. Since the reaction is happening on the outside in reverse spherification, the balls won’t continue to solidify on the inside. If you switch where you put the alginate and chloride, the balls will contain the alginate gelling agent and continue to solidify within. A plastic condiment bottle (the kind ketchup comes in at a diner) will also work in place of a sphericator. Squeeze out one drop for a sphere or continue squeezing to make tubes (aka the worms in the alginate worms experiment) Thank you for continuing to put out some of the best content on TH-cam over the years. You are a joy to watch!
me and my cousin ate my uncle mre's when we were kids lol i don't remember them being that bad honestly. i can't wait to make the almond toffee brittle! merry christmas!
Different liquids for different drinks… Dry vermouth is for martinis and things like that and sweet vermouth is for Manhattan’s and old fashioneds. I happen to love just drinking straight vermouth and in that case I would drink dry vermouth! Thanks so much for watching!
MREs are very easy to use and understand. They are made to be "solider proof" to some extent. Many service people actually enjoy MREs. The reason you get salt, sugar, and hot sauce (sometimes cheese sauce) in excess is because you have to make all sorts of things palatable in the field. Service people often mix & match or combine different kit elements. Most MREs are very nutritional and calorie-dense as well.
" . . . as long as you're together ..." says it all. So, hey, how about a bit of love ... all you have to do is push a button for each comment ... to say you read it or appreciated it .. doesn't mean you read each one ... Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing. Those poor men and women. How can we not have a better way of providing these instant meals for them in the field?
Lol. Story about the Nutcracker. The dancing, the ballet story. I laughed out loud. I love this channel!
This level of craft, you guys surely deserves more subscribers.
Right?
Agree!

I think the foams and spheres are so cool! The spheres with seafood make complete sense because they look like fish eggs or bubbles.
They recipes you prepare always look delicious and you're always so entertaining! Merry Christmas to all!

Cheese tortellini is one of the greats! Also try Mexican Chicken Stew. It’s my personal fav. (Active duty Army Medic here)

can you pour the hot brittle directly on parchment paper instead?
I think it might stick to parchment? You could pour onto a silicone mat? Thanks so much for watching!
Omg Randy! Can't believe you dont know that Rochester NY is the honeycomb toffee capital!
what do you recommend sweet or dry vermouth

I think this is your funniest video. What a riot and yes, MREs are horrible.
