  • Carl Douglas, known for his hit "Kung Fu Fighting", tells how he started in the show business and gives a small presentation of his Kung Fu skills.
Spotlight was a music show for the youth, which was aired between 1968 and 1978 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). It was the counterpart to the shows "Beat Club" or "Musikladen" in Germany.

The interviewer seemed VERY shocked that Carl said that he used to be an engineer!!

Carl looks as though he is full of B.S. when he said it.

@@hollytrinity8012 Actually, i did a bit of research on Douglas. He was a sound engineer. However, in Germany, when you tell someone you are "an engineer", it's assumed it's an electrical engineer or mechanical engineer - not a sound engineer. There's a BIG difference in the level of education required to be an electrical or mechanical engineer and that's why the host was so amazed when he heard "engineer".
I have recording experience as i have many years of experience with home recording, but i would never go on TV and say, "I used to be an engineer" and leave it like that especially when the host seems totally amazed by me saying " i am or was an engineer". I would need to clarify, but Carl did not clarify his level of "engineering".
I attended Trebas Institute (in Montreal) for a short time to learn sound design.
The engineering course was also all done on a computer with DAW technology with only a few days on an actual recording/mixing console.
And to ME, i see a look on his face that says he's holding back information.
Poor guy writes a song about Kung Fu and he ends up having to dress up like a Kung Fu fighter for the rest of his life.
