    Kurt grew up in Aberdeen, Washington. After his death, the town wanted to put up "Welcome to Aberdeen" signs that said "Home of Kurt Cobain", but many people complained due to the way he died. They didn't want their town associated with that. So, instead, the the welcome signs now simply say "Welcome to Aberdeen. Come As You Are.", which I think is even better. If you know, you know.

      "the way he dies" is likely that he was murdered, & some who have done documentary & Hollywood films about the circumstance of his death, believe the Seattle police were complicit in covering it up, because the alleged contract killer was a drug informant for them -- the hole (just a theory - I saw it in a DOCUMENTARY & Hollywood movie tho)

    Dave is a devastatingly hard hitting drummer. During rehearsals Kurt had to keep asking him to play softer and softer to the point Dave thought "Why am I even playing?" So the producer ran out and bought these special sticks that lighten the impact. Speaking of Come As You Are, watch "Soaked in Bleach."

    • @mrtveye6682
      @mrtveye6682 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Dave is a great drummer, and using Hot Rods for softer playing is not unusual or unknown. Can't really imagine he didn't knew about them or even that he didn't have a few pairs on him, esp. going to an acoustic gig. It's pretty standard for a drummer to have some Hot Rods and brushes at hand besides your regular sticks.
      Anyway, definitely not Daves primary kind of playing, he really hits hard. So I can imagine how it didn't work out when he used regular sticks. 😀

    • @TomvdVeen

      @@mrtveye6682 i think i remember you could get those hot rod sticks in different thicknessess. i had a pair loved them .

    • @mrtveye6682
      @mrtveye6682 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TomvdVeen Yes, different number of single little sticks bonded together, different materials, different strength. Some very soft ones sounds almost like brushes, some stiffer ones more like real drumsticks with some "wash" to it. Some you can even adjust with a ring (more to the top = less feathered out = stiffer)
      I liked the stiffer ones, felt almost like playing with real sticks, just a little softer, not so much attack, can give a nice touch even on heavier music, at least when recorded and mixed properly.

      Do u seriously think krist and dave would keep quiet about all the S.I.B. stuff 28 years on? ....thats some serious blackmail they have on them if they are keeping quiet......and i think krist loved kurt so much hes un-blackmail-able....idk, man🤦‍♂...the only “evidence” i ever saw/heard was that fat, scummy looking biker/hitman dude (i forget his name, id know it if i heard it) who was assassinated/hit/killed shortly after kurt died, that’s the one thing in nearly 30 years that made entertain it all for a fleeting minute, or two.....but that dude was so shifty and scuzzy, and shady looking, he could've been killed for a whole litany of reasons....jesus, man, shit....i just dont think krist would keep quiet, bc hed have a gut feeling at least....i realize he wasnt privy , in the end, to everything going on in Kurt’s crazy life, but after 30 years, i think hed have put it all together....theres also an interview on youtube saying why krist thought/knew kurt did it....lastly, kurt was a genius, and i dont think he was r3tarded enuf yo be with someone who wanted to murder him...as big a psycho bee-otch as coutney is, i dont think kurt would be with someone like that; love is one thing, men will stay w/ some crazy b!tches, but for him to be so blind as to stay with someone who put a hit out on him?, seriously? ....i think hed see thru that......and yeah, i know about the failed rock star guy they think killed kurt and the interview he walked out on, but that could also be the actions of some jaded loser/failure in the music industry who didnt want to be confronted all the time w/ questions about the guy who made it to legend status and then some....i dont know man, its been 28/29 years, man....if it were all true and all so, so, so , so very obvious like u guys claim, i think there would be some progress in the case by now....sometimes u S.I.B. ppl remind me of vegans at a funeral, and the pastor is like “does anyone have anything they’d like to say?” ....and the vegan steps up and says “....i’m a vegan....”, .........I'm not sure, besides the lyric, what S.I.B. has to do w/ this video....again, and lastly, i think some progress in the case (if there was truly a case) wouldve been made by now, it was 29 years ago, its not 1999 any more, thats all im saying.....

    Fun fact, Dave said in an interview that during rehearsals for this concert Kurt kept telling Dave he needed to soften it up a little bit more. This happened a few times until he felt he was barely touching them but it was still super clear. Kurt is the reason the drums were so soft but clear. The jaw movement is 3 things, he did it to keep in time with the music, also lets not forget Kurt was heavy addict... i feel it was also a habit when concentrating.
    You are correct in what you said, he was a mood, heh ad a very dry sense of humour and he knew sarcasm well. But he was a funny guy and he had good Morales, he stood up for the LGBTQ+ community before it was a mainstream thing

    MTV Unplugged was an iconic show. So many great artist came on and performed stripped down versions of their song in an intimate setting. Even some older artists like Johnny Cash and Tony Bennet did great shows. Eric Clapton's episode was released as a full album, and sold tens-of-millions of copies worldwide. Led Zepplin also did a show that was released as an album.

    You are right, I haven't seen these unplugged sessions in quite a while. And it really is a great way to see the underlying mechanics of the song and to hear some nuance. I really like it. And you asked about was that hard to play on the guitar? Well of course that's all relative right? For me it would be easy to play but on the other hand it would take me a little practice I think to be comfortable with playing that without messing it up while singing at the same time and doing a good job at both. But you can imagine that he's just done this 8 billion times you know. And also, when you play live in front of people, I mean practice is good and critical for sure, but when you play live in front of people, it's like a crucible. To me it hardens you and makes you better so much faster than if you just get together and practice but rarely play live. Playing live a lot is a magic formula. Just ask the beatles, laugh. Those years they spent in Hamburg Germany plus some of the time in the underground but I think of almost as a punk Club in the cavern in Liverpool made them into the band that got noticed by the world and even though they quit playing live at some point it made them incredibly tight and having incredible chemistry together. Nothing like playing live.

    You're used to watching live shows where the goal is to go big on performance. Drums are by nature unbelievably loud, so in small, intimate venues like these that aren't amplified a lot, the trick is to play soft.
    Yeah, less arm movement. It's all in the hands. :)

    Nirvana pretty much stole the riff for this song from the band Killing Joke. They almost got sued for it, but Killing Joke didn’t end up suing

    This song is written about Heroin and how it’s Excepting him anyway possible. That it’s there for him friend or foe. The meaning don’t have a gun is basically the drug saying I’m not putting a gun to your head come as you are!

    Drummer is Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters). I never really dug Nirvana but I do respect their contribution. They have inspired a LOT of young musicians. I LOVE the MTV Unplugged series to. My favorites are Eric Clapton and the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant concerts.

    Kurt was apparently using his jaw to count time with the drums, according to Dave. Also Kurt was going through heroin withdrawal during this time and the MTV staff went and got him a prescription of valium, to help take the edge off. So the jaw wasn't drugs, as neither what he was one, nor the withdrawal, would cause a reaction like that. So just counting time in songs. One of the reasons you don't see him doing it outside of the performances during the night

    Pretty good observability to see Kurt move his jaw left to right like that. I was always aware of just didn't make anything of it really or ask questions on that specific peccadilla but now I'm Curious as hell why. He definitely did not do crack that I'm aware of. I've seen people do this on crack and ecstasy but Kurt I don't think so. I think it's a natural tick. Then it just so happened to come up at my most favorite & beautiful Melody of the song with no lyrics at time of live song. To tell you truth, he could have done this on purpose just to see if anyone would notice and what they would think. Knowing Kurt, sounds like him. "But I'm not sure (lithium)."

    Dave Grohl playing the drums softly on this 'Unplugged' set was no accident... In fact, according to the show's producers, Kurt Cobain hated the initial 'Unplugged' rehearsals. He complained that Dave was hitting the drums too hard... Dave was frustrated and Kurt was apparently unwilling to do the show unless it sounded right. Dave Grohl is a punk rock drummer and has a natural ability to hit hard, and that was not what Kurt wanted for the set.
    Unlike past 'Unplugged' shows that would have the band filmed performing acoustically and taking a break between songs or re-playing songs if they didn't sound good, Nirvana insisted that they play it like a concert set... It would only be performed and filmed once.
    In a panic, the producers handed Dave Grohl a pair of brushes and suggested he use those on the drums for the beat... Once Kurt heard them, he lit up almost immediately and the whole 'Unplugged' set was rehearsed w/ Dave playing as softly as a he could until Kurt was happy w/ the sound. Kurt also refused to play 'Smells like teen spirit' acoustically... That was probably the best decision he could have made.
    Once Nirvana started playing, everyone thought it was a stellar performance... Kurt ended the set w/ a Leadbelly cover ('Where did you sleep last night') which came after obscure songs by The Vaselines, Meat Puppets and David Bowie... The crowd went crazy after the last song and Kurt left the stage... When producers asked him to do an encore song (the crowd was screaming for Nirvana to play another)... Kurt apparently refused, replying, "I can't top that one."

    His jaw movement looks like what is known in slang vernacular as "junk jaw." He was doing a fair amount of heroin at this point in his career. You can see some of his other live shows during this time period and he looks like he jonesing pretty hard for dope.
