  • Celebrating the 100th birthday of Miss Jane Morgan on 3rd May 2024.
    Jane was born into a musical family, by the age of 5 she as taking vocal and piano lessons. She appeared in theatre productions at her brother's theatre in 1941 she as listed as treasurer of the playhouse.
    After graduating she was accepted at Juilliard School of Music intending to be an opera singer. She sang popular songs in nightclubs at night and studied opera by day.She was discovered my band leader Art Mooney.
    In 148 she went to Paris with Bernard Hilda, she as a sensation with French stars frequenting the club and writing songs for her and began recording in 1949.
    1954 saw her return to Europe appearing at the Savoy Theatre and The Palladium.
    In the late 50's she began making impressions in the US, signing a contract with Kapp records. In 1958 she recorded 'The Day The Rains Came' • Jane Morgan 'The Day T... written by French singer and writer Gilbert Becaud, she recorded the original french lyrics on the B side. The song reached #1 on the UK charts and #21 in the US.
    Jane performed in many Broadway shows and on tv throughout the 60's retiring in 1973.

    One of my favorite pop songs since I first heard it in 1958 when it often appeared on AM radio. Thanks Al!

      The original version is French. The song was composed by the singer and composer Gilbert Bécaud. He composed many songs that were hits in the USA : Let it be Me, What Now my Love, It Must be Her, September Morn and Love on the Rocks (co-composed with Neil Diamond), etc etc.
