While child performers of every age will exist, I think it was rather insidious how Cookie’s lyrics had Korean netizens baffled by international audiences’ negative reaction to it. Those of us in the west weren’t digging deep into the lyrics just to sexualize minors over an innocent baked good, but these companies and songwriters aren’t stupid.

Most songs that has sexual innuendos play of things you can eat, like you said Ice cream cake, lolipop, chewinggum, icecream ect. The reason is because eating is a methafor for temptation, it can easily be overlooked by children to be it's literall lyrics but older people know and understand the innuendo.
They know what they are doing when they made the song "Cookie" and they know why they made the concept of cookie dark and sultry. If it was really about literall cookies for the fans the mv should have been much cuter than even Attention, Hype Boy and Hurt. It should have fetured baking and gift giving, but it doesn't. It's not a cute song and they made it that way. We aren't creeps for pointing it out, they are creeps for making it.

The sexualisation at every turn in our everyday life is horrible. And yes, definietly yes, the borderline pedophile - like feel is being pushed now too. Too many things became already "normal" that shouldn't have. It's not for our good, it doesn't make us happy or happier.

It is ABSOULETLY too young! I felt that way before they debuted, but it really hit home when I saw a middle-aged man attending their fan meet. Like yes you can be a fan of them at any age but realistically what business does a middle-aged man have attending a fan meeting for minors?? It is so weird and sick, and I personally haven't listened to any songs nor do I plan to support the group. The whole scouting process of idols in general is predatory in itself. Like the way it is normal for companies to wait outside of schools and in malls to recruit minors as idols is so weird.
Also, I saw many netizens comment that idols debuting as minors (i.e hyuna, wonyoung, Boa, etc...) "has always been happening" as an excuse to continue supporting this very predatory practice. Firstly, just because it has "always been happening" does not mean that we should be okay with it continuing and not make changes. Also, while it is still weird to have minors in a group with adults (and given mature/sexy concepts) there is a huge difference between debuting 1-2 minors in a group vs the whole group being minors.

They say that a lot. It’s always been this way. So a CEO r*ping several underage trainees received 6 years in jail and an idol smoking pot was recommended 4 years in jail. Shows their priorities.

I wonder why people are not calling her out on her creepy 'tendency'?
Based on her own statements, she seems to think that some of the NewJeans members are already 'too old'!

Isnt east asia creepy in general when it comes to stuff thats borderline (or directly) pedo? Japan produces some really sick Mangas with child characters and we all know about all these school girl fetish things. Girls and women in east asia get infantilized, or infantilize themselves, alot so this is like paradise for creeps. Adult women acting as childish as it gets sometimes and dress like 12 year olds. I dont get it. And add all this intense submissive behaviour promo to that...there are alot of things to love about east asia but this aint one of them.

Young performers have always been a thing worldwide - many artistes started as kids - G Dragon, Micheaal Jackson ,Rhianna, Bobby Brown , Britney spears and Beyonce to name a a few out of the 1000s but apart from Britney the concepts have been on talent more than physical appeal from being a child. And this is what makes some of the KPOP agencies different. The appeal is in the artistes being fresh and unsullied. I remember when YG was picking artistes for Mixnine and described a photo of some trainees on the wall as 'Nice' because they were 'Fresh' as they were under 16 years old. I was teaching an KPOP dance class at the time and the youngest person in my group was 16 years old and she said ' Lets be honest I would be too old and mature for most Korean agencies to work with me- FACT. That is the part I dont like everyone likes cute and pretty kids who have talent. But when you are pushing their physical appeal is elevated because they are 'virgin like' pure and fresh you enter another domain. I never like NCT dream as unlike the EXO concept of school boys at high school ( even though some looked a bit old) - NCT dream was marketed as elementary boys as if they smelled of baby powder and rusk. Yet they were trying to be appealing. SO I gave NCT a miss until the concepts were more adult and darker. The lady knows exactly what she is doing

All of the members of the group are super young. I haven’t listened to anything yet but it always worries me when people are normalizing the sexualization of teens. I saw someone posting a video about Ni-Ki from Enhypen the other day and hope that it was another teen who made the clip since he is only 16. It’s a problem for both girl and boy groups. I understand that young people have more appeal to the audience that they are trying to reach but 14 is just too young. There should be a minimum age of 16 for trainees and 17 or 18 to debut.

I have observed a lot of sexism in K-pop. The females generally show a lot of skin, where as the males will get covered up in a lot of cases by an emoji if they show their stomach during a dance practice or what not. But the girls can wear skirts the stop right below their crotch. They start them that way and I feel so bad for them. And yes, they are too young to be singing about their cookie’s.
5 years old starting the first grade, No. My daughter started preschool 3 1/2 however, her birthday is in September and they start in August in the U.S. For her to go into first grade at 5 would have been a waist of time, because there is know way she would have learned much from it at the time.
I have used so many products throughout the years. I used to be a diehard Clinique fan. But now I use the Garnier that is packaged in a similar way and I love it. Clinique can be very heavy if you get the wrong products. They do have specific lines for dry skin, oily skin and combination skin. But I like The Garnier and it’s a fraction of the cost. And I am in my 50s so I understand the diehard Clinique fans of my generation. It was this shit in my generation.… Lol

I think girls would be more attractive and noticed for all their talents as well as appearances if they wore clothes closer to the men's styles: cus if the men can look so hot like that then so can the women!!! I don't know what others think but sometimes I'm noticing bare legs before the face and I wish it wasn't like that. Also easier to dance and jump around without worrying about "skirts". Maybe save the dresses for special occasions, dunno just an idea! 🌞🌚

As much as I love music from Asian artists (Yiruma, Epik High, BTS, IU, OMI, Ryuichi Sakamoto, etc.), I'm so put-off by the way girl groups are presented, in general. Same reason I am bothered by the slutty-ness of many female acts in the West. Artists like Lizzo and Halsey portray strong-yet-vulnerable womanhood that is also sexy without being sleazy. I used to teach high school, so I'm scared for teenage girls (or even early 20s) who flaunt their budding sexuality in a way that turns them into toys rather than ladies developing into substantial women. Don't think it's helpful for men to see girls that way, either. ㅠㅠ

Children, even teens, promoting sexually charged songs, dance, clothing style and so is ABSOLUTELY inappropriate.
This is a gateway to sexually deviant acts by men who are mentally OFF. In these type of men's twisted minds, all girls that age think the way, want what's being 'SOLD' and so in. It leads to stalkers and a whole bunch of nonsense.
Why set young women up for such?

@@Amanda6532 I am well aware of women being predators, however, in this case, she’s a facilitator of potential crimes. Muchlike Jeffrey Epstein's friend Ghislaine Maxwell and how she conspired & facilitated sex crimes.
But in this instance, crimes have not been committed. Butting up to & habitual line crossing is what the music & entertainment industry is all about. It's up to parents and other 'Adults in the room' to monitor and ensure that child singers & stars aren't taken advantage of. But we know they won't because money is the ultimate motivation.

Can you do a show on how K-POP idols are paid? They seem to be literally owned by their label, making them sleep together in dorms and be on camera 24/7, like BTS. The BTS boys are obviously rich, but how much does Hybe keep of their income? The Backstreet Boys and NSync were, after all, notoriously ripped off by their managers, paying them checks of $10,000 while the manager kept millions.

You are so right about these young kids starting at these ages you are talking about. You just gave the ages of their debut but the norm is that they train about two years before they debut so the 14 year old is about 12 years old when he/she starts. I find that Korean children do not seem to mature or should I say are not as worldly as American kids and that’s a really good thing. They seem to stay innocent longer. I would attribute it to the culture but then who are these parents who are letting these K-pop companies take their children at such a young age? The woman training these children ought to be ashamed of herself. She is a disgrace to society!!! I grew up in a different era but there were still tons of young singers/dancers/boy groups/girl groups and none of them acted anything like what is going on today. They were all very wholesome with no sex connotations! They all had lots of fans and made lots of money and that was before the Internet which gives the music industry an extra boost that we didn’t have. As much as I like BTS I feel that they are acting out with too many sexual connotations. I know that sounds like old fashion thinking but that’s what is destroying societies around the world. I am so happy to see someone your age making this a big deal because I is!!!

We have to stop calling decency and morals "old fashioned". This should never go "out of fashion". There is nothing bad about it cause all this...ehmm "modern fashioned" stuff has nothing good about it, its just destructive and perverted and panders to the more dark and primitive sides of humanity.

When I was a school portrait photographer for a time, at one school, my camera was set up near the choir room of an elementary school. I took a double-take when I heard a class full of young voices sing, "Hit me baby one more time," by Britney Spears. I know there are probably different interpretations to this song too, but it still felt too grown up. In my own school as a kid, we sang silly kid songs written for kids or learned patriotic songs, and so it almost seemed to me some innocence had been lost in the next generation, and it made me sad. Today, I can't really bring myself to watch teen girl groups, not only in Kpop but from other places too, because I can't help wonder about the unseen damage of being viewed as sex objects, especially so young. I've done volunteer work on the streets helping young women, so perhaps this is why this hits so close to home.

Great content, if Korea would like to know what will happen to children who enter the entertainment field too soon, one only needs to look at the success rate of child star to Adult star in America. Very few and I mean VERY few have ever succeeded. Most if not all, have a huge burn out period, which usually includes self destructive behaviors. It is very sad, and I think something that western society is only now recognizing as a problem. Or at least talking about it.
It is hartening to hear that Korea at least is starting the conversation earlier, Maybe your society can curtail the madness before it becomes the problem it is in the west.
Children do need to be children first. I have greatly admirred that the kpop genre seems to be mostly comprised of 20 + year olds. This maturity is to be commended.
As for school, completely agree again, that goes against any cognitive behavioral development theory, I pity the teachers who would essentially be turned into daycare workers.

I think she is clearly a dodgy character and not to be trusted. Even though I have ALWAYS been sceptical about Hybe, I would like them to see the back of her because - even if she makes some money for them - she'll drag their name and brand through the mud.

In the U.S., there's an optional Kindergarten for 4-year-olds, and we've had 5-y-o Kindergarten for a long time, but those programs are half-day and include naps and lots of play time. They're for school readiness, not full-on academics. We also have lots of personalized options for school (non-graded, self-paced, and home schooling) that a lot of countries don't have. Some kids/families are motivated by competition but others are crushed by it. To counter low birth rates, there could be financial incentives to have more children and policies that encourage legal immigration. First grade at 5 is, as you stated, not a wise answer to the problem!

    • @Amanda6532
      @Amanda6532 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Kids learn how to read and do basic math in kindergarten and, at least in NC, they no longer take naps and go a full day. They sit at desks all day in public school and get 30 minutes for recess. If they can’t read and write at the end of kindergarten they don’t move on. I’m not sure what schools you’re talking about. What you described was preschool which is for 3-4 year olds. You can go to public school preschool at 3.5 but typically have to qualify because of disability or developmental delay.

@Seoulite TV...you talking about pedophila...grooming...sex trade! I mean call a spade a spade. It's not only in SK culture it is worldwide, when these record/entertainment labels tell females artist they can't make it in the business, unless they singing about sex and the more graphic the better. When they tell female artist they can't make it in the business if they don't show a whole lot of skin...to the point where they are basically naked, but they don't have this same requirement of male artist. Everyone is excited about any female group debuting under HYBE formerly BigHit because of the whole debacle with GLAM and how PD Bang took the brunt of the hit for that, when he was just managing them for SOURCE. So when the bully issue happened with the former member of Le Sserafim, they were quick to oust Kim Ga-ram...they didn't want anymore GLAM issues. But these young girls have parents who are allowing their daughters to be used this way...remember that above everything! The life of a female girl group idol in Korea is shorter than it is for a male. Because by 25 years old, women are still expected to meet societies standards and get married to some dude that's older than her. And if she's a celebrity and a good one, she can garner a successful husband out of her run in show business and retire to being a housewife and mom...a narrative that men and women in SK have to change...just saying.
But notice how these girl groups aren't directly under HYBE...see how this group is on a sub-label of HYBE...so if any GLAM type ish goes down..HYBE doesn't suffer...BTS and TXT will be okay, and can always rebuild. The girl groups will be shutdown and disbanded. PD Bang learned a valuable lesson from the GLAM issue, so he is keenly aware that girl groups present with issues that boy groups don't have. It is sad that females cannot it seems today be as successful as male groups without using their bodies to get there or singing about sex. Not saying those songs don't have a time and place...it's just today they don't have any class about how they present them. And what's worse is it's a female leading the charge...it's not female empowerment...it's called being a pimp!

The big difference between the west and KPOP - is that if a parent is good in the West they can protect their child from harmful people- bad parents will always fail their kids. Whereas Korean parents have their kids signed over to the agencies and really dont have any say after the contract is signed. Leaving idols vulnerable both male and female. Trainees are often sent to various places to perform so agencies can guage the reaction from potential fans whichs means girls/children performing in fromt of adult men- from business men to producers to army recruits and the parents have no say as they have given up their rights. It is only when the girls are adults do they tell people they were scared , confused or intimidated at the time.

That producer... Many people who like SM groups have talked about it in the past but nobody was listening. I couldn't believe it when I learnt HYBE gave her the spot but I guess that's the type of controversy they are looking for 🙍🏻. The "girl crush" concept being mainstream for the past few years doesn't help, it normalises sexiness in young girls imo. Tbh I don't mind a cool concept for underage groups but not cute =/= outfits so tiny they need fashion tape everywhere and bike shorts under their skirts just to go up on the stage. And it's also normalizing this attitude for regular young girl fans who will emulate it in their personal lives which I do find is an issue.
NCT Dream was just so creepy it made my skin crawl at the time. Debuting young isn't really that new tbh, TVXQ had a member who was 15 when they released Hug in 2003... Hebophilia gets the $$ on both sides of the aisle I guess.
And re: the albums, it's all a lie since maybe mid 2000s. Not only the artists and company staff but also many fans buy carton loads of the albums just for the groups to chart well and "break new records". That one comes from J-Pop and the AKB48 way of doing business and I wish people would speak up about it more. Honestly it's disgusting how the whole industry silently encourages that and basically running the fans dry with all of the goods and album versions + crazy amounts of comebacks that are also ruining the member's physical and mental health.

I don't think the government should rush korean children to school. Studying is GRUELING in your country until you get to college. Let those children be free to be children just a little longer. What's the rush? All that pressure and responsibility can wait. It comes soon enough. What was the reason for lowering the age anyway?................As far as K-Pop goes, I think Taemin of "Shinee" was about 10 years old when he strarted training. He said himself "Shinee" became his fathers and mother. Lol. Poor Key. Taemin's band mates finished raising him. Serioisly. I have been very touched by how much they look after him even now. When K-Pop training started, a lot of new idols were under strict rules and often were not able to phone their family, or go home on holidays at all. So yeah, it's too young for them to be singing like that at 13 or 15. It's not right for those companies to have complete control over every aspect of their lives they way they do....and let's be honest. Those children do "favors" for "sponsors" of those companies sometimes...and without the protection of their families they can fall into serious trouble. There are videos of idols getting slapped, passing out just before going on stage, or staggering around on stage with other members trying to dance but keep them from falling outright because they were so sick and forced to perform anyway.....I often wonder is there anyone at all protecting them...Now there is a group where one of the members is an AI...of the 5 boys guess whose the most popular member. The companies are out to make money. That's what they do. They have to be sinking a LOT of money into a group in which one of the members exists only in s computer. Sexy innocent sells. They will continue to do that until it doesn't sell music...and then they will move on to something else.........Is their room for "Clinique"? Yes. Absolutely. My daughter inherited my mother's seriously sensitive skin. Sonwhen she turned 11 we began to use Clinique to wash and moisturize her skin. She used the palest lipstick. When we saw her skin could tolerate being cleansed for a period of time, we added other Clinique products much later. Lol. She was expensive to raise since she had long hair that had to be treated with expensive hair care too! She's older now, and uses a Korean line of skin care. Her skin is beautiful. But in the beginning? Thank god for Clinique!

Given that much of the song is like "you didn't come to my birthday party, you weren't there when someone broke up with their girlfriend" I think it's more likely that it's the girls singing about when their friend is gonna show up next, aka literally her Estimated Time of Arrival

BTS has a song called War of hormones.
“I can’t stop looking at all the girls.”
“I love your front, I love your back.
From the top of your head to your feet.”BTS received such criticism. Everyone said this song objectifies women.BTS decided to not to sing that song. I think Hybe need to be very careful! BTS has the benefits of Mr. Pang PD. He worked on the Character, academic and more. BTS still struggled with the challenges of the industry and the world. Trying to it have it both ways? Would be having if we’re a man . ,Unfortunately sexy is a fast way to make money. It’s very thin line. What about the mental health of the girls?? What the health baby? Human being, not A.I.

I like Olay's retinol 24 night cream, and I sometimes do slugging over it with Aveeno Baby Eczema Nighttime Balm, containing colloidal oatmeal. I don't know if it's OK to use colloidal oatmeal over a retinol moisturizer but I haven't had a reaction so far. I haven't tried Clinique moisturizer. I used to love a shade of foundation they discontinued and I haven't bothered with their other products. They were really popular in the 90s but not so much anymore

Yes, the "Cookie" lyrics do sound gross sung by young girls. And they wouldn't fit sung by older girls.
I'm not saying the push to enroll children a year earlier would have met with approval had it been presented to parents and teachers, but President Yoon Seok-yeol's setting it forth as law-to-be didn't help his case. Politician's arbitrarily setting policies without consulting their people - that's getting tiresome.
I've never used Clinique so your discussing that brand helps me. Thanks for educating me. Take care.

It is probably what it is because these songs are supposed to find their way into as wide coverage as possible, into dance clubs and such. The mv dance moves aren't exactly prudish either. I say this hesitantly because it is my favourite track from NJWS.

I love the music actually!! It’s very good!! 🙂👍🏼 The hair flipping 😂!! We’ll see how it goes for New Jeans. If they involve the young ladies in the creative process, they might last longer & girl groups need to do more writing, producing & composing. They need to be more involved in the music they perform so that they can sing about their experiences. I would love to see that.

The probleme with schooling is all because of korea 's competitv mind set. I went to School at since i'm 3 years old, the days were pretty short and light and kinda like kinder garden however i could count to 1000 , calculate, knew the alphabets and could read easy Word at the end and learn grammaticales rules and the difficulte step, details and all the stuff during my first year in primary School. The teaching methode were all based on game and ludic activites explaining really well the things we had to learn. However in primary scholl there was such a competitv mind set i felt behind and felt relly opress and was ashamed of myself. In second years One teacher helped me and make me learn how to read time and started teaching me english. I never became a perfect studen but i am really greatfull and conviced that If school were kinder and funnier more Kids would love it.

Could you please explain to me what the age would be - in western age? I am confused. Is he attempting to put 3 (western) year olds into first grade? Have to admit, from this side of the globe, that seems really ridiculous. While there is pre-school here for children of that age, it is not run like typical school. It is geared for to toddlers (A three year old in the US is considered a toddler) and really young children.
      Thank you in advance.

5year old is the age for school in the UK. but they start earlier part time earlier eg mornings and or afternoons before they are full time.
of course we try to get them into pre school earlier from about 3years but it's one morning a week and it's not siting in a classroom. It's learning through play.

First, we can see what happened to them debuting at young age. Second, this is a different kind of industry. This girls would need to live in a dorm and couldnt meet their parents frequently. Not to mention, off stage they would practically live in practice room other then their room. The us entertainers doesnt live in a dorm and practice like 10+ hours per day

I couldn’t believe his parents signed off on him living w/ “young men” too… but as time went on & I read up on how Kpop works…. it is the “norm” to live together to maximize their time w/ studying school work, training & resting… I can see both sides of the “young” age in the entertainment industry…. @@LeeLee-ye1rs KPOP sadly needs them young about 12-13 years. That is because they are being moulded While western artists are also moulded and often exploited as kids. TOO KPOP requires the kids to be the property of the agency to do whatever - from having cosmetic surgery to not being able to see parents and siblings for months at a time. The kids do and go wherever the agency tells them to go and they are brainwashed not to complain. Agencies have been known to turn parents who show up away without seeing their kids. So that is the biggest difference . Justin Bieber and people like Miley Cyrus were never owned by an agency and parents have full control whether they be good parents or bad e,g Britney Spears. It is not the young age that is just worrisome it is the owning of the kids for years. If yiu are not sucessful you also have to perform in some dubious places and try to impress investors who are normally adult males without your parents watching over

@@MsMrReason It’s a difficult business to be in… let alone as a “child” in this business. I’m always surprised @ the parents who “allow” their child..(JK, V.. Britney, Christina A, Ricky Martin..) work @ such a young age. In US even thou the child is not “property” of the Agency… they are under “strict” contract rules…& some of the parents are turning a “blind eye” to questionable treatment their child encounters. On the other hand… 20-30&up often find themselves “selling” their soul to make it in the entertainment industry too..in the US.

The girls are obviously ready to debut talent wise. Why should they have to wait? Do athletes have to wait? Look at gymnasts and figure skaters. They shouldn't have to stifle their dreams because of perverts. It's like victim shaming. As if Hybe staff, security, their parents and the older members are going to let anyone near them. They will probably be the most protected girls in korea.

    • @MsMrReason
      @MsMrReason 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

You are only protected at the top - like BTS is protected or Black Pink is protected.NOW when you are trying to make it you are totally vulnerable to all. I dont think anyone is saying they should not debut young it is just how they are being protrayed for the debut/ Also gymnasts a figure skaters are skilled based not looks based - these girls are scouted for looks - talent is trained and worked on after they are signed - if they did not have Lolitaa vsiuals they would not have made it into the group. SM lady with this concept is also really lazy she often uses the school theme - which is OK with 21 years but not OK with kids - who will have no idea about exploitation until they are adults.

    • @MsMrReason
      @MsMrReason 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@UtahGal Yes KPOP artistes are totally picked for looks and appeal and not skill. That is why they are paraded in front of every man and their father before debut and they cart them off to have plastic surgery and stick them on diets if the image is not right. Shindong from SUJU is about the only idol I have seen in 30 years that looks like an ordinary man off the street and that is because he was 2nd generation he would not be picked now, Psy is first generation and they signed him before seeing him and when they saw him they suggested he wear a mask on TV due to his unappealing face
