    Excellent info, thanks so much. I have a 148.15600 and was surprised to find that its feed dog adjustments are identical to the ones on your 158.1941 . These are wonderful old machines!

    Hi there! I've acquired a Kenmore sewing machine secondhand - same mechanics as this machine, roughly. It was in a little bit of rough shape from the previous owner, and it wasn't feeding material at all, this adjustment helped me get it in sewing shape! I've been desperate to fix up some clothing items and apart from a tune-up, my machine is ready to go! Thanks for the instruction!

    I just got this model second hand, and I was thinking that the feed dog might need adjusting, sometimes it has difficulty moving the fabric through. Thank you for this video

    So I keep getting 'sawtoothed' stitches on most of my 158 Kenmores. I've reduced it to some extent by playing with tensions, but I'm fairly convinced that the real issue is uneven feed dog lift and perhaps some lateral movement. How do I adjust out the lateral, the 'sway?'

      If your machine has a zig zag feature, perhaps the straight stitch setting is off a bit. Another possible cause is the fabric slipping or puckering based on the fabric type and weight and using the zig zag needle plate instead of the straight stitch needle plate. Sometimes the fabric can shift or be pulled below slightly if using the zig zag needle plate. Another possibility is adjusting the tension on the bobbin case.

    I've got a Kenmore model 158.19312 and when I pull the clutch out to wind up a bobbin, the needle bar continues to travel.
    Do I have a stuck clutch? How do I fix this?

    Morning! I have this machine and am trying to use the buttonhole attachment. Having trouble with it as the fabric does not move through...stays in one place creating a small ball of thread.
    I did use it years ago and recall the attachment moving with the stitching....is that what it is supposed to do? And if so, why is it not this time?
    Your video is helpful.

      I will try and post a video on making buttonholes on both types--flatbed and free arm machines. Depending if your Kenmore is a flatbed or free arm, the separate buttonhole mechanism is different but functions the same. The feed dogs need to be dropped or the attachment will be damaged. Install the buttonhole template in the attachment. The attachment is secured by the screw to the machine bed just beyond the needle plate and should be aligned with the sprocket on the buttonhole mechanism. Test without a needle and bobbin installed if the attachment with template moves through the cycle of the button hole you choose.

    Hi, I just bought a kenmore 158.17501 and the feed dogs won't go backwards to help feed the fabric. The 1750 machine looks a little different then the one in the video. I loosened a screw that looked like similar placement but it didnt work. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you

    Is it necessary to thread that bottom bobbin for the machine to thread or can you just thread the top and it still work?

    The knob to lower/raise feed dogs on a 148.12181 does not perform its function. Stuck in Raise. Would someone ever purposely tighten some screw to prevent dogs from lowering?

    I bought a used Kenmore 385.15343600 and the needles keep breaking hitting the base. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how do you open the door on the right of the machine….mine won’t open with just a pull. Is there a trick to it…I don’t see any buttons to push to open it.

    Can the dogs on this machine be dropped?

    • @surfovermiami7513
      @surfovermiami7513  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the feed dogs can be lowered on this machine. If you take off the "shoe" to access the free arm or remove the cover where you load the bobbin instead of removing the shoe, there is a lever to the left you push down to lower the feed dogs.
