What's the Difference? 2002, 2009 Mini Cooper

The Mini Cooper is heralded as a small car that is a ton of fun to drive and is considered a British icon. The current version of the Mini Cooper began production in 2001 when BMW took over the car’s manufacturing. Going into 2015, the car is in its third generation. I only like first generation mini. I got my first one in 2005brand new and loved it. After 3 years and lots of miles exchanged for new one in 2008 and hated the new one. Horrible to drive compared to 2005 model. Had it for 4 months then sold it. Now in 2017 I bought myself a 2005 plate Mini Cooper this week. I am in heaven.

Well, the first generation drives like a big go cart. Lots of fun, fast and responsive. The newer models are actually several inches bigger, heavier and drive like tanks. Hard to explain but even though they look nice, the fun factor of driving them is gone.

2007-2010 mini has oil burning /timing chain eating Peugeot engine early 2001-2006 had engine based on Chrysler neon engine more reliable engine

inside they are.. I'm 6'10 (though I slouch alot.. scoliosis.. so I'm typically about 6'6) and I'm going to be buying one as soon as I find the right one. Even with me being all torso I have enough head room with the seat leaned back a little bit.. There's honestly about as much head room as in my dad's 2010 Challenger RT with the seats all the way down in both cars.

2002 and 2009 will both have a 5-Speed for base, you can get the 6-Speed for both generations if you get the “S”

The speedo of the 2nd generation is soooo ugly. It's like having a wok in the middle if the dash. The 1st gen are more nice and MUCH more reliable especially the engine.
