Eh. It wasn’t really necessary for any of the base game bosses. It definitely helped for the post game super bosses, but it kinda trivializes the main game.
It’s specifically for a rematch when you beat all the other rematches. Mario = Monk/Dragoon Mallow = Red mage Geno = Machinist Peach = White mage Bowser = Black mage Toad = Bard (his support side gives buff to allies) Their class/jobs in ff style
Geno's a combination Machinist/Black Mage. Bowser's a summoner, or whatever the FF class equivalent would be. He wields Chain Chomps and Mario as his weapons and summons a Boo, Gassox, and Mechakoopa for his special attacks, and in the remake where the characters actually have more animations for the different specials, Bowser clearly summons the pillar of rock for his 'Crusher' move with a pump of his arm.

The first 2D sprite is fitting because his whole appearance in the first original game was that he was a fully 2D character from Final Fantasy trying to enter a "3D" world (Super Mario RPG used 3D assets turned into sprites with a 3D navigational world). So first Culex fight being 2D keeps to that original theme, hence the whole rematch fight being Culex achieving a higher dimension (literally) in becoming 3D in a remake that is now fully true 3D.

So she wont get kill by his auto kill and you limited to 6 pick me up…. It take me 2 times to beat him because i didnt knew his pattern and i am a advanced player of final fantasy opera omnia so im used to difficult fight ENJOY GANG
I’m very sure it’s the green crystal that locks the buttons, my items were locked out but when I killed the green crystal the lock disappeared and was never used again the rest of the fight.
>and everyone should be level 27+ Nah. I beat it at 21, no grinding necessary. Just have proper equipment and keep peach alive at all costs. Also buy Peach the flower badge or whatever its called from the frog in seaside town. Makes revives and group hugs cost basically nothing
Did this at Level 21. Was a very unoptimized fight, but still beat it first try. Stabilizing was pretty easy with Red Essence on Peach and subbing in Bowser to take deaths for me. Party Bracer kept me alive when all four crystals were up, Party Energizer ensured Mario, Peach, and Mallow were doing full damage, and then it was basically a matter of mashing Snowy + Super Jump on Green/Ultra Flame on Blue + Peach mashing bombs or Frying Pan. Mallow's damage is pretty high in this fight, and you likely want him and Peach for their magic resist.
I just tried fighting him. When i saw the button lock mechanic i just laughed and braced myself for impact Update. I beat him after a few tries. Fight was awesome. However I would have switched the order of final claw and meteor. The one thing the fight suffers from is once you defeat the crystals 3D Culex doesn't really pose a serious threat. I know 2D Culex has the same issue. Keep meteor as the intro because that's an effective Oh 💩 moment. I think moving meteor to the second half of the fight would keep the difficulty more balanced.
Still in the process of watching this, but it makes me so glad Culex is back! When I heard he was kept in the remake, I was relieved because I've always had a soft spot for Culex.
You can tell that Culex in the first encounter was unused to the 3 dimension's potential which was reflected by his attacks dealing less damage to you. Now that with him in the rematch being with a model instead of sprites, his power is now more around what it was in the original game
From all the different Mario RPG games, this was one of the hardest bosses I faced. Only others that come to mind are: -Bonetail & Shadow Queen from Paper Mario TTYD -Dreamy Bowser from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros (mainly because I intentionally stayed low level), fight took me like 45 minutes But even tho 3D Culex was hard, I actually beat him on my 2nd try. I didn't even want to fight him, I the first 5 minutes I just wasted time trying out different items, mind-reading everything, and I thought I wasn't strong enough anyways. I just wanted to see what happens when the countdown runs out... and after that, I just decided to actually fight back and it was actually pretty managable, as long as you have Peach in your team. The whole fight took me over 30 minutes but I managed to do it without too much trouble. I was expecting him to become even harder once you destroy all the crystals and he gets all the 4 buffs, but on his own he's actually very simple. All his attacks are quite easy to super-block and his one-hit move can be cheesed if you use the trio move with Mario + Peach + Geno. If you use it right before the countdown runs out, the one-hit will be absorbed.
If possible, have all party members at level 30 or as close as possible. If you need exp, you can easily grind levels at the factory using the exp booster accessory Mario: Lazy Shell Weapon + Attack Scarf Peach: Lazy Shell Armor + Safety Badge Geno: Stella 023 + Quartz Charm Strategy: Focus blue crystal first, ensure all party members have full health before Culex counts down to 0 and uses his special. This will ensure they have at least 1HP remaining. Heal up, Geno boost Mario and Geno and pound crystals with physical attacks. Take out all the crystals, and then finally Culex.
I was kinda hoping that Culex would have been in the HD-2D style, but this is really cool too! Also, did they let Yoko Shimumora arrange the FF4 boss theme for this? Becuase holy SHIT it sounds good!
I see that reference you did square for peach browser and Mario special triple move nice callback to one of tidus special overdrive moves in FFX also love they made the fight harder
Bro.. Imagine that instead of the FFIV boss song they were to put the last boss song (commonly the theme of zeromus) This would be more epic than Of what we already have
Just beat this, its not too bad but you have to nail the block timings and get your gauge up (ended the fight with mine at 133.) Mario - Lazy Shell, Hero Shirt, Quartz Charm Peach - Super Slap, Lazy Shell, Safety Badge Geno - Stella 023, Work Pants, Jinx Belt Bowser - Wonder Chomp, Heel Shell, Booster's Charm Mallow - Sage Stick, Work Pants, Enduring Brooch Take out the crystals in order of Green first, then Red. The other two it doesn't matter too much. Peach is of course the mvp being a heal and revive bot. After turn 1 use a Kerokerokola and get ready to block what you can. You really want to keep the gauge up so you can use the Mario Peach Geno triple move as much as you can.
ff4 battle theme, nod to ff5's interdimensional rift, a superboss that looks like a fusion of Shinryu & ff6's god Kefka, and the 4 crystals from ff's 1,3,4,5?! I'm buying this game immediately!
This makes me wish they would remake *all* the classic 2D FF games. They don’t need to change anything about the gameplay or plot, just give them a graphic, animation, and OST glow-up on the same level as this fight right here.

He honestly isn’t THAT bad once you take out the crystals. And you’ve gotta have at least one party member alive so you can swap them to revive everyone else
I was wondering why Culex 3D took so long. His 2D form has over 4000 hp. His 3D form has 8999 hp, thus he has more than Smithys 2nd form which has 8000 hp. Damnit Nintendo, you were 2 HP off from making that joke...clearly thats on purpose

You NEED ALL 5 MEMBERS to win… and everyone should be level 27+ u will die a lot so try to put peach in the back…. So she wont get kill by his auto kill and you limited to 6 pick me up….
It take me 2 times to beat him because i didnt knew his pattern and i am a advanced player of final fantasy opera omnia so im used to difficult fight
ENJOY GANG
I’m very sure it’s the green crystal that locks the buttons, my items were locked out but when I killed the green crystal the lock disappeared and was never used again the rest of the fight.
>and everyone should be level 27+
Nah.
Never in my entire life would i thought to see this being in 3D... And i love him.
I had lots LOTS of fun fighting against him!!
I just tried fighting him. When i saw the button lock mechanic i just laughed and braced myself for impact
Update.
3D Culex's face almost resembles Ultima from FF16
20 years later he has returned for revenge.
It's been a long time since bosses were made this difficult.
Oh shit, you can fight him a second time? Guess I should spam rock candies until he dies again.
*After the first hit.* HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.
The hardest battle of all RPG games!… awesome game! What happen if you fight again?
That monologue at the start of the fight was almost word-for-word what the genie in Terminal Montage's yoshi's story said.
that's because Terminal did refence this game (the original SNES), he even used the same song
that’s because he directly referenced Culex’s fight
You can tell that Culex in the first encounter was unused to the 3 dimension's potential which was reflected by his attacks dealing less damage to you. Now that with him in the rematch being with a model instead of sprites, his power is now more around what it was in the original game
The Mario vs Sonic debate is getting spicier each second
Culex Vs Solaris
@@BowserEditzgust Bowser vs Eggman isn't the last Mario vs Sonic matchup and I ain't complaining because this matchup actually sounds great.
@@BowserEditzThat is a really hard call
@@BowserEditzSolaris frees Culex up and its not even close.
@@yagirlmayalazarus6713 nah culex beats him
From all the different Mario RPG games, this was one of the hardest bosses I faced. Only others that come to mind are:
-Bonetail & Shadow Queen from Paper Mario TTYD
-Dreamy Bowser from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros (mainly because I intentionally stayed low level), fight took me like 45 minutes
But even tho 3D Culex was hard, I actually beat him on my 2nd try.
If you need exp, you can easily grind levels at the factory using the exp booster accessory
Mario: Lazy Shell Weapon + Attack Scarf
Peach: Lazy Shell Armor + Safety Badge
Geno: Stella 023 + Quartz Charm
Strategy: Focus blue crystal first, ensure all party members have full health before Culex counts down to 0 and uses his special. This will ensure they have at least 1HP remaining. Heal up, Geno boost Mario and Geno and pound crystals with physical attacks. Take out all the crystals, and then finally Culex.
Level 30 is not necessary. I beat him at level 23 with basically no grinding involved.
It would be so cool if they added a town called final fantasy village where you can actually fight in a coliseum with final fantasy characters
I was kinda hoping that Culex would have been in the HD-2D style, but this is really cool too! Also, did they let Yoko Shimumora arrange the FF4 boss theme for this? Becuase holy SHIT it sounds good!
Well, before this rematch, he's at least got a fight against him as a sprite.
Actually this is a rematch of the fight. In the original he is a 2D sprite even with the original nes music playing
@@tvs26 Yes, I know. Also, it plays the remix of the FF4 theme from the orignal game, which was a SNES game.
is there a reason youre avoiding timed hits and action commands?
So I managed to use thought peek in this fight and it said: “witness the power of post-game content”.
Finishing him off with a melee attack from Mallow is downright insulting.
I bet, if you had all the special attacks from the M&L games, you'd be able to defeat Culex in just three turns!
I see that reference you did square for peach browser and Mario special triple move nice callback to one of tidus special overdrive moves in FFX also love they made the fight harder
Bro.. Imagine that instead of the FFIV boss song they were to put the last boss song (commonly the theme of zeromus)
This would be more epic than Of what we already have
Yeah they made him so much harder! Way harder than the final boss.
0:45-0:49
This moment goes so hard for no reason
Heartless Angel in the beginning is an homage to Kefka.
And a homage to me.
I remember playing the original Super Mario RPG as a child, and this being the hardest fight ever. I never managed to beat him
Hey, what equipment did you use for this?
Just beat this, its not too bad but you have to nail the block timings and get your gauge up (ended the fight with mine at 133.)
Mario - Lazy Shell, Hero Shirt, Quartz Charm
Peach - Super Slap, Lazy Shell, Safety Badge
Geno - Stella 023, Work Pants, Jinx Belt
Bowser - Wonder Chomp, Heel Shell, Booster's Charm
Mallow - Sage Stick, Work Pants, Enduring Brooch
Take out the crystals in order of Green first, then Red. The other two it doesn't matter too much. Peach is of course the mvp being a heal and revive bot. After turn 1 use a Kerokerokola and get ready to block what you can. You really want to keep the gauge up so you can use the Mario Peach Geno triple move as much as you can.
BOWSER DANCES TO THE BEAT OF THE FF VICTORY SONG!!!!
ff4 battle theme, nod to ff5's interdimensional rift, a superboss that looks like a fusion of Shinryu & ff6's god Kefka, and the 4 crystals from ff's 1,3,4,5?! I'm buying this game immediately!
This makes me wish they would remake *all* the classic 2D FF games. They don’t need to change anything about the gameplay or plot, just give them a graphic, animation, and OST glow-up on the same level as this fight right here.
Words cannot describe how goated they are for this. My ngga this game was peak in 1996 and now it’s peak in 2023. The game is my goty idgaf next to totk. Nintendo has been destroying the competition this year.
>old enough to get to Culex in 1996
>zoomer speak
something isn’t right here
3D Culex looks so badass!
My god the FFIV boss theme is AMAZING
This boss fight is brutal 💀
He looks too much like Sombron LMAO. Guess his destiny was always to be defeated by a Red-Blue warrior.
15:55 The way that music fits in they combo is awesome
So you can fight him again and again and he tracks your turn count?! That’s clever! Does he get stronger each time?!
No I don’t think so. He stays the same strength, you can challenge 3D Culex multiple times to get a lower turn count.
So everyone is aware, he has 8999 HP! :)
Looooove the Final Fantasy prelude mix
Way to hype me up for final fantasy 8 game i plan on playing
Always nice to see another version of the boss theme from Final Fantasy 4.
Did I hear a final fantasy jingle?
This is technically a Final Fantasy game, but with a Mario skin. Square based it on FF4. Culex uses the boss theme from that game.
they ate with this game. not a single crumb in sight.
this is literally a final fantasy boss in a mario game
He honestly isn’t THAT bad once you take out the crystals. And you’ve gotta have at least one party member alive so you can swap them to revive everyone else
The design actually looks more like a Final Fantasy villain from the later games.
...basically, they made him hot.
I think his HP difers from difficulty, in normal he has a full 9999.
Was half wondering if Sephiroth, Kefka or even Xehanort was going to be put in but this works to.
Nomura would panic
Is Nobuo Uematsu credited for this new version of the Culex Battle theme?
I'm pretty sure it was Yoko Shimomura who did this version, not Nobuo Uematsu.
You watched this video to see the new boss fight.
I watched this video to hear the new FFIV boss theme remix.
We are not the same.
Cluex basically said "Am I good enough for this 3-D game now? And I can safely say that he didn't have to flex THAT HARD.
This might honestly be one of the best verisons of the FF4 Boss Theme. And of course it comes from Yoko Shimomura!
I know he's evil but who knew his 3D form would look so HOT
