    Very good advice! We have also been having storms that are more severe than usual. Fortunately, power has not gone out for extended periods at my house, but it has for friendsthat live close by. With the way "world politics" is playing out, it is more important than ever to be prepared. One of these days, the power is going to go out and stay out. Today neighbors will help but if things were really bad I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I had to depend on them.

    Sage advice here. We got a generator when my daughter was born and have been looking at solar too. Can't be too ready on the no-power front, especially with the deficiencies in our outdated grid system

    Feb 23 a cyclone hit New Zealand. Ok where I was but 3 hours drive from where I live a buddy of mine was without water, power for 7 days. Even the cash machines didn’t work. Police struggled to maintain civil order. Be Prepared

    We had the power go out last Friday night for 3 hours and then again Saturday morning for 2 hours. No storms at the time. Snakes got into the substation and shorted things out.

    Good advice my friend. I myself kind of live that way on purpose. I am set up for Three months of steady living without power. Almost an off
    Grid life but working on getting it done. Be safe and hope your family is doing well!

    Your 💯 percent correct. We can always cook on a fire. But id really like to get a natural gas generator. Just isnt in the budget yet

    I'm in Minnesota and i worry about power outages in winter (deadly cold at times). An overwhelming majority of single family homes don't have any way of heating if power or gas goes out. Insurance goes sky-high if you have a wood stove.

    Always good to have a Sprinter Van that is Diesel (can burn just about anything).

    I live in a townhome, my retirement home. But I have a pressure canner and some new and unused jars on a shelf in the garage for the freezer and refrigerator contents if power goes out too long. No place for solar and probably against the rules anyway (multistory building, but the garage is private and secure).

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like some planning going on and that awesome. You may have some southern facing windows that a small solar panel and jackery may work. Or even a balcony or patio. Just some thoughts. There is usually a work around.

      Oh, and I have my old Coleman camp stove, and buy another couple gallons of fuel every couple of years as it does not last forever.

    • @wcknives
      @wcknives  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another thought is even if you had no way to recharge a solar generator it will provide you with several more hours of freezer or fan time than not having one at all. How long depends on your usage and size of the generator. Freezers and refrigerators do not have to run 24 hours only long enough to freeze and cool then unplug till items start thawing out or get warm then plug it back in. Something to consider.

    Since you mentioned freeze dried meals, have you tried Packit Gourmet out of Austin? If not, they’re well worth it! The tortilla soup and kickin’ chicken are awesome. I’ve had to break out the camp stove and coffee pour over filter a few times recently, also.

    Your power outage affects me from far away! It means my Jr Fieldlore will be a little latter than it otherwise would have been! 😂 It's OK, I am making a different version tailored to what I want in an edc knife. I'll make a video when it is done. I just glued the handle on last night!

    Those that wanna laugh at folks being prepared are the ones sitting there sweating and hungry looking stupid, here in Florida they mostly keep the trees cut back away from the lines but it can still happen and in Alabama it doesn't take a lot of ground saturation or wind for them ole pine trees to do some damage. Now days the lights go out they worried about the Internet coming back on

      Either way, depending on others to secure or insure your meals, electricity or survival is a huge gamble I’m not willing to take. I will use power when it’s available and my back ups when it isn’t.

    Hi William. I am sorry to hear about your electricity. Obviously, this is all part of their "plan" and I know it's true because everytime I mention what?who is behind it, I'll be censored. I am down here in Kingwood Texas and thankfully it will go out for a few seconds, typically. I cant afford a generator, unfortunately....that said, I think it would be wise to at look into purchasing a propane heater for these weird January cold-snaps.

      @@wcknives , I don't mean whole trees. The power company here in PA uses helicopters, with a circular saw apparatus to trim the branches away from the power lines. Also, wooden power poles don't last forever and need replacing.

    • @wcknives

      @@hk45c62 it is the whole tree here. The power lines are kept clean with no limbs near the lines but as I said the ground is so saturated trees are falling pulling other whole root system.in a two mile stretch we counted 6 trees, not limbs, whole trees laying on power lines last Monday.

      @@wcknives, a few weeks ago, we had a couple days of rain and my neighbors lost 2 Maple trees that were easily 50+feet high and now have 2 pits in the ground. I mostly have Walnut trees and those roots run deep. Stay safe William.
