My belated tribute to this great band and the late Tim Smith. Like a lot of people I only discovered Cardiacs following Tim's death but they have since become one of my favourite bands and this is definitely a contender for their best track in my opinion, although that list is long. To purchase Cardiacs' music and merch visit their website here - www.cardiacs.net/ This track was mixed by my bandmate, Jack - th-cam.com/channels/ZZgdvQxbGmIeGEdzFWZ-1g.html
In the future there will be a German compound word that describes musicians who discovered Cardiacs in lockdown, and have since been getting theirs heads blown off as they peer down the rabbit hole... Great cover by the way 🙏
@@TheProds No offence meant when I say that this is a worthy cover but not a patch on the original. Regardless, great job and you have a fantastic voice (plus great skills with the other instruments). Like you I found Cardiacs after Tims death - you really have made something worthy of the term "tribute". I salute you and again no offence meant. I really enjoyed your cover which I found after some late night listening to Cardiacs. Few could match up to the leader of the starry skies though :)
Comment misdirected our way but geez, no need for such a miserly opening statement! Just appreciate the effort Mr Parrish here spent in learning a song you admire and bothering to put together a video for us to enjoy! It's a lot of work and it's a great job. Save the backhanders! @@GetAGripPls
@@TheProdsTotally brilliant. I only vaguely remember the original. Only found Mr Parrish as I fancied listening to Holst's the planets 😂. Very glad I did 😊
I was at a cardiacs gig in the crazy house in Liverpool in the nineties with some friends. Certain substances had been imbibed. I was dancing back and forwards like a flower at the back of the crowd. Tim was amused with my styles and i caught his eye walked through the crowd and reached my hand out to him. He walked across the stage and reached down shaking my hand with a big smile on his face. I pass that handshake to you today. Thanks for reminding me of the beauty and complexity of cardiacs and this lovely hymn.
There's an incredible live version on here played by ex Cardiac members, Spratleys Japs and Mike Vennart, who does an incredible job singing it. I was there at the recording and Tim was at the side of the stage in a wheelchair. Just incredible atmosphere. People near me were in tears. Amazing night. Like you, I came to them very late.
This is a masterclass in music production and probably the finest studio cover of this song of songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The personal touches you add to the composition are outstanding and if that were not enough, your vocal range is spectacular. Bravo.
This is absolutely beautiful. I’m a long-standing fan (ie. old!) of both Tull and Cardiacs and this has blown me away - incredible job Joe, thank you, Tim Kirkham.
Amazing. The fact you don’t have millions of subscribers is criminal. Your Rite of Spring arrangement is possibly the best thing I have heard on the internet.
You nailed that last bit so well. You reopened the gate to the stars with angelic purity. Love the picking. It makes me dream of a black metal version of it :D
I listened to this version - for a very first time- a few months ago. Well, I have been coming back to hear it again almost daily. Amazing job. Nothing else job to say.
Amazing! Obviously I love the original but it's great to hear how your version brings out some parts that are a little harder to hear in the original's mix.
Lifelong Cardiacs fan here since 1984. Saw Tim in all his guises well over 100 times. This is beautiful, up there with the Sterbus stuff. You are worthy of laudation
excellent... your Rite was my intro to your profound musicality, but you continue to display a wider range, a fine vocalist too, overall mad studio skills
That was a great moment of music! Thank you. Discovered Cardiacs quite late too and I can't put them out of my head. Great channel too, I love your Shostakovich piece a lot.
My current fave listening! Bloody fantastic! Could someone confirm what that acoustic is please? Ibanez? AVN6-DTS Artwood Vintage Parlor Distressed Tobacco Sunburst?? Can't find one to buy anywhere?! Cheers.
That was masterfully done. Truly brilliant. I got a shiver up my spine when the picture of Tim came up at the end as your voice faded out. Bravo sir! A tribute worthy of the highest laudation! 👏🏻
That's absolutely excellent mate, only just stumbled across it. I'm an old man now, so can remember them from the 80's - a great band indeed. Well done Sir.
Joe, this is FANTASTIC. Please can I play it at my mother's funeral later this month (she's just passed away at 91)? We'll arrange for Tim'e estate to receive the royalty payment if that's ok?

Incredibly based that you're into this band.
Hey Tantacrul, thanks for introducing me to this amazing song!

This made me cry.... In the good way.... the way the original did..... you God!!!
every chord change in this song is absolutely perfect
Every chord change Tim ever wrote is utter perfection! :)
Beautiful! 🥲
Thoroughly worthy of laudation!
A stunning version of one of the greatest songs ever written. And, like yourself, I discovered Cardiacs just after Tim's death. Wonderful !

Потрясающе! Талантливый кавер!❤ Малыш Тим улыбается с небес!

I could listen to a whole album like this
This is absolutely beautiful. I’m a long-standing fan (ie. old!) of both Tull and Cardiacs and this has blown me away - incredible job Joe, thank you, Tim Kirkham.
Laudation of The First Order. Nailed it!
Absolutely stunning. Tim was the greatest of them all😥❤
Amazing. The fact you don’t have millions of subscribers is criminal. Your Rite of Spring arrangement is possibly the best thing I have heard on the internet.
This is god damn incredible dude what the fuck?
Thanks! love your cover. Never heard the Cardiacs and am exploring them a bit. VERY interesting. Quite an amazing song.
Enjoy the rabbit hole, every album is special and unique in its own way, amazing band from the early days til the end

Our favourite ever song....and you've absolutely captured how beautiful it is.
A stunning version.
ARMY of MOTHS! What a great band you guys are!

And you know Tim loved you too.
Wow, as if your cover of Rite of Spring wasn't a blessing enough !! A Cardiacs cover now !? Thank you SO MUCH, it's wonderful !!
You nailed that last bit so well. You reopened the gate to the stars with angelic purity. Love the picking. It makes me dream of a black metal version of it :D
Absolutely stunning. Something to treasure.
This song is the greatest song ever and your rendition is staggeringly sublime.
This made me cry wet tears. You sir are a wonderful man. So so good.
Cry wet smile dry
Excellent, using a flute was a stroke of genius. Lovely voice too.
I thought I heard some Cardiacs influence in the guitar playing on Rite of Spring. Fantastic cover.
Igor was a big Cardiacs fan.
Absolutely fucking amazing. As good if not better than the original. I assume you held the whole note at the end of course :)
Probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard....you're rendition...exquisite.
Beautiful and fitting tribute, well done!
Such beautiful, earthy smell to this cover. Good job!
Love this version - slight XTC / Syd Barrett vibe to yer take on the song - admiring yer range and flute playing too, thanks 🙂🎵🎶
I listened to this version - for a very first time- a few months ago.
Well, I have been coming back to hear it again almost daily.
Amazing job. Nothing else job to say.
fantastic! Hearing it like acoustically like this, you can really hear where Tom Yhorke from Radiohead hot got inspiration from
Amazing! Obviously I love the original but it's great to hear how your version brings out some parts that are a little harder to hear in the original's mix.
Absolutely gorgeous arrangement! You've immense talent!
Amazing! But it messes with us with perfect pitch being in the key of D :) Still great! Timmy xoxo

Lyrics
We cut all his eyes we did
Squeezed the lids and down the grog into hole
He skip with cow eyed smile to the blissful
Into craggy dress and we will we praise him
We will praise him off his pins
Clear him of all sins
Oh my! we sang with strength to carry on
Encouraged him to sing along
We sang of all the world and praised him hooray!
Stay alive to live or without
And he is down all over and out
Watch us hang on shoulders as tall as gold as
Feely hand and finger around all we
And look to see if we care if he is heaven sent or
Hell bent but we will praise him
We will praise him all away
Praise him all away
My arms chancing and you will no way
Live long enough to repay me
I praise you anyway always
Wipes last with brown and pale
Dirty boy he gone all stale
And down the stair and hallway crawling
And pig and toast and kitchen brawling
Night-time days are all weekless
Alarm charm, he's all up and dressed
He dirty boy, he bathroom dances
And check his jam and breathe on glasses
Spiny grip brings all off 'Mr. Regal Jelly' in hand
Warm feel and suck regal man suck bland
Suck bland away and he a sleepy cow-eyed dog
He treading soft sand
Kiss and stroke and praise him
Stroke and praise him
All is worth a kiss
Not how to cleanse
And fowl preserver of sick somehow don't worry now
Hold his mouth and stop him breathing
Over and out
