Those last few minutes, with the music and all the fingers outstretched against the colours and smoke. Fucking hell, I've never seen a more perfect moment to encapsulate what this human experience is all about. It's like found footage from another world. Then you realise that humans are capable of this sort of magic.
Yes. Entirely unique in rock, as well as in the whole of the rest of known music. It's a bold statement, I know, but I have yet to discover another composer who accomplished the levels of otherworldly magic that Tim did.
This is just ridiculously powerful. There is not a note or word wasted, everything has purpose and power and meaning. I prefer this performance to the album version, it's absolutely feral and gorgeous. I bitterly regret never seeing Cardiacs live. I'm a musician myself, and in the late '90s/early 2000s I played a show at The Square in Harlow the night after Cardiacs had played, on the tour for Guns I believe. I remember the SM telling me that audience numbers were barely in double figures...unthinkable.
Funny that. My Mum, the only one I've gotten into the Pond, yet, said the other day. The instruments, it's not just like they're playing, they're TALKING!
me to...was there...they made me cry when Timmy was alive , its so good it reduces a man to tears ...now...well...world lost some Magic he left...altho he left so much magic with us
What an accomplishment this song is. How was one person capable of writing so many unbelievable tunes? He cracked the code, and how lucky we are for that, because I doubt anyone else will do so in this lifetime. Tim Smith forever.
Immense. Majestic. Amazing. I went to all 3 of those shows at the Garage . Each night was epic and this must have been the best 10 minutes out of the 6 hours or so of music they played over those nights...
Such fond memories of this eveing & this song, Was at the front barrier & the last 3 minutes of this, the instrumental bit, felt like it went on forever. It was so beautiful it was painful was sort of glad but very sad when it ended.
I would be fine with Kavus doing vocals for it, even Jim could probably do it. Hell, I'd be happy if they just released the instrumentals. If nothing more ever happens with the "new" (I used quotation marks here since it's 12 or 13 years old at this point) then it's alright because Cardiacs already have a great catalog. If one day we do get something It would be very nice still
Easily the best Live band I've EVER seen.......Thoughts are always with you Tim, your music put a big change in my life as regards understanding the music we play.....Best fuckin lesson I've had in my life mate, Fanx xx
That's right ,it took me ages to get it sound properly on my old guitar, never ending changes and all that powerful stuff,I have spend months practising that tune..But anyway, Its going to stay my favourite song of all times..thanks Tim Smiths and company.
Cardiacs. You were there. I wasn't. Rediscovering now and absolutely feckin awesome. Tim, looking for a miracle so I can catch up. Arcade Fire were obviously at the gig.
In all seriousness, this is the actual 'Music Of The Spheres' - it could be argued, the structure and grandeur of this piece has its antecedents in devotional / choral music; addressed to something greater, astral.
Closer, I'd say, maybe, to the Beethoven of our generation? But even Beethoven wouldn't have been able to comprehend what Tim did. Not even Debussy, or Ravel, centuries after Beethoven, would have either. Tim was, and ever shall be, an absolute anomaly in all of music.
I phoned into the Danny Baker show back in the day as he was trying to find what song had the longest held vocal line. I cheated I guess. But at least it got them a mention on radio 1 when Sing To God came out.
One of my greatest regrets in life is never seeing the Cardiacs live, especially around the era of Sing to God. Other people have commented this but sometimes I really do think this is the greatest rock song ever written.

Beautifully put
It's simple and impossible like that
It literally makes me cry. Such beauty of sadness.
A work...of fucking....art.
one of the greatest live moments of all time
one of the biggest regrets of my life was being asked if i wanted to go to a cardiacs gig in the mid 2000s but not knowing who they were yet.
I knew about them, was living in London, was always planning on going to one of their annual gigs... but never did. I share your regret x
Has to be the coolest three minutes of one sustained note ever. Glorious!!
This is what sealed the deal. Simply amazing.
Is this actually the best song ever written...?
I reckon it's in the ballpark.
its the 2nd best one after 'everso closely guarded line'
Yes.
Not sure but I'd say it's in the top 1.
Yes ✨
Makes me cry everytime
this is giving me goosebumps. i cant even imagine what it was like actually being there.
Man, Tim Smith’s approach to harmony is radical and entirely unique in rock!
Yes. Entirely unique in rock, as well as in the whole of the rest of known music. It's a bold statement, I know, but I have yet to discover another composer who accomplished the levels of otherworldly magic that Tim did.
10 and a half minutes of pure bliss.

How can a song invoke such feelings? I can´t even describe them in words.
wasn't expecting to have tears in my eyes at 'over and oooooout'. amazing
Proof that music can say more than words
Funny that. My Mum, the only one I've gotten into the Pond, yet, said the other day. The instruments, it's not just like they're playing, they're TALKING!
Seen them. RIP, my old mate, Tim.
Loved them. Brilliant band. X
7:18 I love the way everyone’s hands raise as the outro starts
Quite possibly the best weekend of my life - makes me cry every time I watch this. God bless ya Timmy...
Reading your book mate! Love it
@@fcamiola Awww, thanks matey!

Rest in peace Tim. I found your music far too late. It will always have an impact on me.
My life has never been the same since I heard this song in high school

Life long atheist here and a song about masturbation has made me wonder if maybe there's something higher. Well in Tim.
The way this track builds is pure genius...missing the pond more than ever!
Absolute ascension. Tim looks like his soul is glowing through his body here

At the far end of the universe there is cardiacs.
Absolute perfection in every way. A work of actual genius.
I'm somewhere down the front having one of the best nights of my life ..
I envy you so hard for this.
Bloody glorious.
I really really hope that new album finally sees the light of day sometime. Maybe with Kavus singing? We love you Tim.
Is there a chance of Tim ever recording you think?

This is the best song in the world
Just... wow. Incredible!
Just saw your comment after writing mine...Thank you for confirming that my suspicions were correct...this IS the best song ever written!
Watching the audience is half the fun. Amazing video. Unbelievable song.
Brilliant, Brilliant Brilliant!!! I like the fixed camera too, so much better than the jumping about all over the place we usually get.
Performance 10/10 audience participation all the way round to 11
I’m having a spiritual awakening
I was 7 years old and in a different continent during this. Its not fucking fair.
LAUDATION gutted to have missed this back in the day ....
oh for a time machine. this will do for now
From 6:56 to the end, goosebumps swimming in paisley patterns across my flesh.
Builds in a completely different way than the album version. Wonderful.
relentless beauty
Rest in Power Tim Smith.
I was there...
Did they really sustain that note?
Ebeneezer yes, that note was really sustained 😃
@@barkmarket01 when I first heard the track, I swore that it was just a section they cut and looped. How foolish of me
Here they had a few singers, so they just staggered between two switching every few bars. On the album it’s a tape loop.

That is literally staggering
brilliant!!!
Love. And what's the use of giving us hands?
Cor, don't half make your chest swell with pride and longing. I miss them so much I could weep.
They really are superb aren't they...
Nice one, awesome quality. Fucking love this band so much.
Amazing performance

Arcade Fire were obviously at the gig.
Apart from anything else, that is an amazing piece if gig-filming.
How does Tim do that trick at 6:21?
muscles
How did Tim pull off SO many tricks that he did, throughout his while catalog?
EHAT HOWHOEHIW WHAT DID I JUST SEE OMG
This makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up...
Tim Smith, Brian Wilson and Frank Zappa walk into a bar . . .
Brian Wilson is buying.
In all seriousness, this is the actual 'Music Of The Spheres' - it could be argued, the structure and grandeur of this piece has its antecedents in devotional / choral music; addressed to something greater, astral.
Tim Smith; Mozart of our Generation
No, sir! Mozart was the Tim Smith of his generation.
Mozart wasn't shit compared to Tim. He was alright but certainly no Tim Smith.
I'll be the next in line to say that no, it's mister Mozart who should have been jealous of Tim.
I was there, little french girl. Yes mate, I could weep, miss them so much.
I weep every single time I hear this song
Yes it might be...

I want to write something but I can’t. Words aren’t enough.
The best rock anthem ever!
That long falsetto on lead vocals at the end😮😮😮
I know it’s 9:44 multiple vocalists, but the sync is inaudible.👍👍👍👍👍
RIP tim
@crashtv Me to, for the very same reason..
Ahhhhhj! Greeeeat!
The definition of the Shepard Tone..discovered by Shepard in 1996...allegedly
It's just struck me - tallbastard is THE CONSULTANT! How's the flower garden?
So are they looping that last note or taking turns or both.
Greatest performance of anything? Ever?
I wish I'd have been there.
Where does this wonderful footage originate from?
Oh my.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuucking hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Joy!
This is the second coming of Christ.
Is this where Radiohead came up with the intro to Airbag?
Wow
Just this

F$ck me. What a band.
nope. not possible
Fucking hell. I just done a little blub.
Holy shit if this is not a religious experience
Just unearthly.
It makes my tummy go funny and the spirit parts of my arms trying to flutter out of their fleshy scabbards.
