Martin O' Donnell (& Michael Salvatori) made Halo. The reason you get that sense of wonder and nostalgia from the Bungie games is because his music took you to a whole nother world. Halo just isn't the same without him

Marty, hats off to you. You are truly a Legend. But I also gotta admit, watching Marty talk about his split from Bungie made me really choke up. Got Pretty emotional. Still can't believe all of those years of hard work and dedication led up to a sad split like that. I wish you good luck in the future, and here's to a brave new world! Cheers!

Seems like Joe Staten and Marty were great peers. Seeing them both leave Bungie roughly the same time just shows how toxic the company had become. It's a shame. Bungie was a world class development company with world class composers and story writers.

Kudos to both Ryan for asking the questions we all want answers to, and to Marty for being very open to answering them. I really like the Halo games during the Bungie days, but it was Bungie as a studio I loved, they had something about them that no other studio had. They had personalities in their ranks, Marty, Joe Staten, Frankie, Brian, etc etc. Sadly the Bungie of today pales in comparison.

Yeah, I do, actually. People have different tastes in games, and just because they don't agree with you, doesn't make them wrong. If you don't like it and feelbthe need to whine, you can always do it elsewhere, like an adult normally would.

    • @tallonmetroids271
      @tallonmetroids271 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I do see what you mean, but I emerse myself not only in the game itself, but the community surrounding it. Believe it or not, you can get a good amount of story and lore from the Grimoire system, and there are many TH-camrs out here that can spin those Grimoires into fantastic tales. Bungie has and will always be about the fans having a part in their games, and this is their current take on it. And it seems to be taking off in a good direction. On the non-lore side of things, there are extremely good/entertaining channels for PvP out there, like Badass Gaming. I get that a good amount of people don't like Destiny for various reasons. Believe me, I've been through just about every moment of the good and bad. It's really just how you chalk up your experiences and what you do with them.

Bring him and Joe Staten (ex-lead writer at Bungie) to 343 and we could get an awesome Halo game

Even if it's just for Infinite, even if he writes one song like John Williams on Solo.
A few months ago, Marty, Joe, and Jen Taylor got coffee together. Marty posted the next day "our meeting was not a coincidence" or something like that.

It has to be a dream come true. The fact that combat evolved main theme was inspired by a Beatles song and how years later, Marty coincidentally ended up collaborating with Paul.

It makes me sad Bungie chose what was best for their "business" over the talent and passion that Marty brought to their studio. Good job Bungo. All the best to Marty. A legend among composers.

What if all these trailers were never met for halo5..Think about it for a second. First E3 halo trailer, shows chief alone in a desert environment, ( Sanghelios had a canyon environment ) wearing a cape to hid from something or someone cough cough cortana. His visor is cracked because of the fight with chief. This environment also looks very very familiar to the ark in halo 3. When the guardian erupts out of the sand it is not the same as we see in halo5. And earlier concept art shows Halo5 Guardians were created in early 2013. This one is also Orange not Blue! Blue would indicate a life worker or color of an AI. This on is orange and orange indicates Warrior servants or warrior AI. Cough cough Mindicate Bias who was BURIED on the ARC and is said to have been protected. aka the Guardian! Chief was also holding an AI chip, HINT HINT Chief is awaking Mindicate Bias to oppose Cortana! He has to awaken another AI to fight another AI! Those who dont know heres a short summary of Mindicate Bias.
“And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.”
    - Mendicant Bias in the last terminal of Halo 3[1]
05-032 Mendicant Bias was a Metarch-class Ancilla.[2] He was the most advanced Forerunner AI at the time of his creation, and was charged with organizing Forerunner defense against the Flood before his defection to the Gravemind, who ultimately caused him to become rampant, and turn against his creators.
    Beginnings
Created in 100,043 BCE, by the Ur-Didact and the Master Builder, Mendicant Bias' purpose was the control of all Forerunner defenses, including the fabled Halos, but only under dire emergencies. The Master Builder, without authorization of the Ecumene Council, tasked Mendicant Bias with the interrogation of The Captive, after its release on Charum Hakkor following the Halo's test firing, in place of the Lifeworkers due to the Master Builder's distrust for them. The period of this questioning was forty-three years, where Mendicant Bias attempted to find weakness. Mendicant Bias was listed missing by the Master Builder before returning to overlook the second testing of the halo on the San 'Shyuum quarantine system.[3] Mendicant Bias sent the logs of his interrogation to his Forerunner masters, who apparently never received the transmissions. Eventually, The Captive persuaded Mendicant Bias to abandon the Forerunners and defect to the Flood cause, convincing him that the Forerunners were so gluttonous and prideful as to deny the next step of evolution: the Flood.[4] The Captive insinuated that by clinging to the legend of the Mantle, the Forerunners had doomed the galaxy to eternal stagnation; the only way for the galaxy to progress was for superior beings to "restart" it. These superior beings, unsurprisingly, took the form of Compound Minds such as Gravemind and Mendicant Bias himself. Although the 43-year long conversation logs between Mendicant Bias and The Captive were sent back to the Forerunners, they believed that Mendicant would automatically fulfill its objective and destroy The Flood, and so did not intervene.[5] Convinced by The Captive's arguments, Mendicant Bias intentionally became rampant, developed a hatred for his creators and actively worked toward their destruction, starting with using five of the original twelve Halos to attack the Forerunner capital. The remaining seven returned to the Ark along with Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting, the Councilor Splendid Dust of Ancient Suns, and the Warrior Servant Glory of a Far Dawn.[1][6]
Here after one piece of mindicate bias was buried on the ark while the other was on a Dreadnought in the Covenant holy city of High charity where Mindicate slowed the gates down to let the chief aboard. Mindicate Bias also makes contact to the chief while on the Ark through the terminals you find.
    Other trailers:
The other traitor trailers are also proof to why they were not Halo5 Guardian trailers but rather Halo6. We saw chief and locke in these two different trailers around a destroyed HUMAN city which we did not fine in Halo5 but rather a small mining colony. Above this city was a partially destroyed Infinity. The context of These trailers do not match at all the the game, AT ALL! In these trailers it seems as if Chief is again awaking something or taking other sides. Again above Mindicate Bas did go rampant and was never healed. Could mindicate Bias have destroyed the human city through a battle or pure disobedience of order. Locke states that chief is a traitor for bringing this to them. We do not see anything in Halo5 that concludes to this what so ever as well. This is even further supporting my evidence. Their is no way the 345i writing team would forget about this, These were all trailers intended for Halo6, where we could see these possible characters. Librarian. 343 guilty spark, Didact, Mindicate Bias, Brute Species, flood species, and much much more. Possible returning locations in halo6. Arc, Halo array, and Earth. In the live action trailer a Hero falls, the UNSC officer announces that chief died in 2560,...But halo5 guardians takes place in 2558. Coincidence i think not, Frank O Connor "Claimed" it was a mistake but something even fans know is wrong is not easily looked over. Of course some were Halo5 trailers like the Spartan Locke gamestop trailer but really other then that the rest of them dont add up at all to Halo5 but would make alot of sense in Halo6. Also for those who do not know, Halo6 is Master Chief's LAST AND FINAL Halo game! This even further supports the trailer especially the Live action one. I also believe HuntTheTruth is literally intended to HUNT THE TRUTH! about the all the trailers, Halo5 is literally a setup for something so much bigger! I will call this right now, that the 2016 E3 halo teaser will show almost the exact same trailer with a couple of differences like the background and chief, and most likely add some character audio in the mix. Mark my words! Thankyou for your time and make sure to spread this around. I believe halo5 was purposely set up the way it is to make Halo6 amazing! #HuntTheTruth ;)

Damn this was a fascinating interview and I’m glad I finally listened to it. Back before Destiny even came out I was still a freshman in high school and I wasn’t aware of the deeper roots behind games. But, if I had know that something like this happened with Marty I don’t think I would have ever bought Destiny seeing what kind of company they became. I’m not saying Marty was perfect but they way he tells this story and still not knowing why it happened really shows what kind of company Bungie became after Microsoft. Great interview though.

Big Halo fan, as well as a guitar player, so I knew Steve Vai and Nile Rodgers were a big part of the iconic music. However, I had no idea John Mayer was a part as well! That's awesome! I just went back and listened to the song he's on, and while it is brief, it definitely sounds like Mayer. Not everyone looks past his pop tunes that are the big hits, but John Mayer is for sure in my top 3 personal favorite guitarists.

I'm glad Bungie isn't a scar for him, its so easy to try to distance yourself when stuff like that happens. It was an incredible group coming together at the right time to make something amazing.
Recently re-purchased every Bungie Halo after being unable to find mine in order to revisit and really enjoy them again. Just waiting for them to come in and it'll be a nice jump back into the old days of super late nights cranking through some Halo (the real ones).
