    I love yours V-Blogs...
    But don't leave Zagreb before exploring 3 more places...
    1. Medvednica, the nature park situated north of the Zagreb. This beautiful place is famous for castle Medvedgrad and its highest peak Sljeme, which host Ski World Cup every year (from where you can capture beautiful video shots and pictures). Also have a lunch and taste the famous traditional local cuisine in one of the mountain homes (for example PD Runolist or PD Grafičar). I think you will enjoy it, and it is easy to get there by a local bus or with Uber...
    2. Lake Jarun - South of the city centre is the Jarun lake also called "Zagreb Sea". With its cycle tracks, lakes for water sports and sports grounds for team sports, Jarun lake is the largest entertainment centre in Zagreb. Tram 17 will take you there. You can also drive through the park, cycle or rollerblade.
    3. Maksimir Park & Zoo - A ten-minute tram ride from the main square heading east of the centre, these attractive 18 hectares (45 acres) of welcome greenery were opened to an appreciative public in 1794, the many woods, meadows and lakes landscaped in what was then considered the English style. Rolling hills cradle footpaths and cafés, providing ample room for jogging, romancing and relaxation. At one end you'll find the City Zoo, with the daily feeding times posted up for the seals, sea lions and otters, so that you can time a family visit around them. On the other side of the road stands Croatia's national football stadium, also called the Maksimir, base of home-town club Dinamo Zagreb.

    My parents were born in southern Croatia, mom in Zadar and dad in Imotski but Zagreb is my favorite place to visit. What I love most is that its a big city but it has that small town feel to it as if everyone knows each other. People have already hit on other places in Zagreb to visit but one of my favorite things is something called "C'est is the best" which is a festival in center city Zagreb where street performers from all over the world come and entertain the locals, its an awesome event and I believe its usually held in June.
    It might sound a bit morbid but another interesting spot to visit is Mirogoj Cemetery, as weird as it sounds it almost feels like you're walking through a park and if you are a sports fan, you can visit the grave of one of our most famous athletes, Drazen Petrovic.
    The one thing I enjoy doing most is going to Ban Jelacic Square sitting down by one of the light poles closest to the water fountain and just people watch, during the warmer months, I will either take a walk or a jog and when I'm close to finishing, just sit there and listen to some music and watching the people and the trams go by then go back to where I'm staying while there.

    its a lovely list and i love the fact you loved my city so much :) what I would add is timing of the visit:
    1. December - now it has become top time to visit zagreb because for the last couple of years our Christmas market is best in Europe - for the whole december the city center is beautifuly decorated and with a lot of venues for food and drinks and little gifts and different stages with live music and even a skating range near the main train station :)
    2. Summer - july/august, typically months to go to the coast, have become lovely in zagreb too! so i think the best combination is to come to croatia at that time of the year and combine zagreb with some seaside destinations. Simiraly to the december christmas market there are lovely stages, live music, food and drinks (more on the summer note though) all over city center, from the main square and train station to the upper town locations - lovely way to spend summer afternoons and evenings with friends :)

    We are retired and are seriously considering moving to Zagreb. Actually, my husband is there now to see if he could live abroad, and much of what you said is what he said as well: the food, the people, the walkability, he rated as tops. It was encouraging for me that you share his view. Makes me less anxious about the move. Thank you for a very educational video!

    This review style vlog is a great concept and I think it is a feature that you should retain in the future. Knowing very little about that part of Europe, I have to say that your vlogs from Zagreb (skilfully summarised here) have put the city (and Croatia in general) on the map for me. I would not have included Zagreb on a list of potential destinations until I saw these vlogs. I would have been missing out on so much. So I think you can say that you are now providing a public service as well as keeping us all entertained! :)

    Great Content guys , this is really helpful for every traveller .
    I love Zagreb , the centre is really beautiful and its just comfortable to walk there, cause the main square is so big and the streets around also. But what I like the most about Zagreb is the feeling when you are there .For me it has a special vibe , its just very peaceful and relaxed . Been in a lot of other city's which are even bigger and more popular , but I didn't have this certain feeling I feel in Zagreb.

    I accidentally came across one of your videos just around the time you started posting them from Croatia. It feels like I know you for a long time. First, I've been following you for so many days now and second, you've spent so much time here. I can't believe how detailed you are and just how much space-time you've taken to immerse yourselves into a new and obviously favourable destination.
    Personally, I think one of the craziest things you've definitely missed out on so far is the skiing event that happens in early January on the hilltop above Zagreb. It used to be quite "wild" at times. The slalom ski race like none in the world cup. The only ski race that takes place literally on the edge of a city. It used to be more like a football game in a way. Additionally, the nutty (Herzegovina-born) Zagreb's mayor once organised a skiing event on the slope in front of the cathedral, down to Jelacic Square. The snow was collected on the mountain and brought to the city centre.
    Advent in Zagreb is usually quite charming. Also, I can't remember if you mentioned the Museum of Broken Relations, the coloured roof of St. Marks church + the Gric cannon which seems quite funny/odd :)

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you've been following along for awhile now! These skiing events sound incredible haha, love that they pulled some snow down into the main square as well - that sounds fairly dangerous!! We prefer to chase the sun, so most likely won't be back around advent time but does seem like Zagreb is the perfect spot at that time of year

    We have friends who lived in Zagreb and hope to go back and retire there one day, so seeing your Vlog and hearing your good report makes me really want to visit. However, I’m not sure what to think about your food report as we were in Krakow in September and went to the donut shop and even ate our donuts in the same park. My husband and I were SHOCKED that you gave them such rave reviews! We arrived early to be sure we got one and the owner was washing the windows and opened 15 minutes late. But we patiently waited...She finally opened...We actually thought you might never have had a REALLY GREAT tasting donut! Not only were they too greasy as you did say, but they didn’t have much of a flavor at all! And though the rose filling was tasty, the orange zest was missing. A disappointment for us for sure, but it satisfied our curiosity and we made our own evaluation. That said, you guys are darling and do a great job showing your travels and giving tips. Danger, your marriage proposal was AWESOME! Hope you share some wedding videos whenever that takes place! Keep sharing!

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh Jill - that sounds like a bad experience! We genuinely loved ours, the dough was full of flavour and the flavours in the middle were so sweet. We've been craving them ever since... lots of locals commented though and told us they were supposed to be that greasy, not really to our taste, but didnt put us off too much. Maybe the early morning batch wasnt as nice then? Thats a shame either way.
      Thanks for your lovely comments anyway :)

    I'm just looking for a job in that part of the world, teaching. Croatia, and Zagreb in particular is one of my 4-5 choices, but it does look really good: Great location, infrastructure, food, nature and people.. and you just introduced the craft beer to me! Slovenia being a weekend trip away is great too. Thanks for the intro

    We are headed to Zagreb in March. How feasible is it for us to rent a car and drive to Slovenia and other surrounding countries? (Noted in the video that y'all took the bus there one weekend...)

    • @DanegerAndStacey

      Very feasible, but you just need to declare it to the car rental company and you'll likely incur extra fees for doing it.

    I know this is a pretty belated comment and I am not sure you are ever going to see it, but...
    OMG!
    I come from Zagreb! Now living in Rinteln (near Hannover in Germany), and I felt so homesick watching your Croatian videos!
    Apologize my English, not my mother tongue.
    As I said, grew up in Zagreb, but spent every family vacation in Zadar. I am currently at home watching my little one (poor one, he's got some kind of flu - he is now 4, but born at 26 pregnancy weeks and has some issues, so we have to be careful), and I was watching your videos, and was like... I'd like to go there and show them what they've missed! :)
    I haven't yet seen a video of you being to Nin, which is (like Starigrad) one of the oldest cities around here, they have the "allegedly" oldest (mini) church", and some awesome natural saltworks (seawater based), where you can buy anything from fancy cooking salt to bathing salts. (If you've been there and I missed it, I apologize!)
    Either way, thank you for enabling me to see bits of my homeland. We will be coming to visit the grandparents soon and are now looking forward to it more than ever! You lifted my mood!

      Serbinovo is Roman Serbinon on the river Savus,read in Ptolemy’s Geography from the 2nd century, there is mention of (and it is also indicated on a map) a place named Serbinon or Serbinum.

    • @dragodrazenovic1064
      @dragodrazenovic1064 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrSERBON Serbinum, also known as Servitium or Servicium, was an ancient Roman city in the province of Pannonia. It was situated in the location of present-day Gradiška in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Ptolemy’s Geography from the 2nd century, there is mention of (and it is also indicated on a map) a place named Serbinon or Serbinum (This place was located under mountains Biblia ore or Biblini montes or Beby m. which are actually Kozara and Grmeč, according to Hungarian scientists). All mentioned forms of the name (including Serbinon, Serbinum, Servitium, Seruitio, Servitii, and Serbitium) refer to a single place, which is identified as present-day Gradiška. In Roman times, the Municipium Servicium was an important crossroad between the east and the south of the Balkans, i.e. a port for the Roman river fleet, which speaks for itself about the strategic importance of the settlement at the time. So? You see? Zagreb was never called Serbinovo!
