Great review of your progress. My next machine on the list - not sure I have the time for a conversion tough ;D If you do the documentation of your work well I can immagine there are a few people out there that might be interested in the docs/ software. Did you think about replacing the contactor with an SSR maybe?
Do you have the operators manual i started a new job and haven't operated this machine since 12 yrs ago i was hoping youd have a video of you operating this machine or going thru the features i really need help remembering how to operate this machine again
I have changed the control of the machine to linuxcnc. The manuals are not relevant anymore.Once I finish restoring it mechanically, I will post videos while using it.
im curious what the error code / description toy where getting for the axis error. Ive recently found out the weiler e35 (1997 seimens 810) I ran for 5 years during my apprentaship is now sitting in a dark corner in parts.... some see scrap iron i see a project i would like. as far as know its only th z axis errot preventing its use. it needs love in other areas but that would be the first step to getting parts made if i can get it for a song
In my case, an axis encoder was flooded with oil, so I think I was getting a following error. The controller was commanding a position but the feedback was not coming, therefore the following error. Not sure what your issue was, but I am glad I did the retrofit, the old controller had waay to many limitations anyway.
@@LikeFactoryMade tho ol lathe i looking at has a more modern controler than yours did (seimens 810 i belive) when i was appreticing i really liked the controler on it! keeping it original would be the goal for the nostalgia :) gonna dig into it and see. i dont have much of a case use for the machine as my work is already being done with a more effective slant bed. but theres just something about the little E35 lathes. and small enough ot fit into my little garage with the rest of my spindles!
@@brianwaayenberg3099 I know, I totally understand that! For me, Weiler E30 was a dream machine and I said that till the end of my life, I will own one. Fortunately, it happened earlier than I expected. Regarding the software, being a software developer, for me it was a challenge to write my own software and make it more customized to my needs.
Hey, sorry I saw your message too late. It had 18200 hours of ON time. (Based on my calculus is about 10 years of 8h/day). Not sure how much of this was spindle time.
I love the way you integrated the used control panel on the saddle into LinuxCNC. Loof forward to your next video, and seeing how you do your GUI.
Very interesting.I hope you will make your work open source!
Very interesting.
Thanks for sharing
Amazing job and nice lathe.

The contactor got replaced in the meantime. Btw, I know a guy who sells a weiler E35 that needs a retrofit. It would be the same thing that I did.
@@LikeFactoryMade I might be interested, you can forward my contact details to him - first result on Google^^
@@FriedrichKegel I've forwarded the details.

How many operating hours on the counter does the lathe have?
