    Ben Platt should get his EGOT. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. He is so talented . I am not sure why people are already trolling him about his age. From the trailer he seems to be nailing it. Hey watch Grease if you want to see where the age just did not work!!

    The music alone makes me cry, and Danny Pino--who is playing Larry Murphy--is one of my favorites, and he makes me cry every time he cries on screen. He's going to rip the tears out of us. I'm so excited for this.

    • @greens294

      Does he have broadway/singing credits? Please forgive my ignorance. Only know him from SVU and Mayans. But I'm a big fan of his work in those, so I'm happy to see him in this regardless

    • @HiSummerWasHere
      @HiSummerWasHere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@greens294 No Broadway that I’m aware of, but he did at least one show on the West End (not sure if he sang). He also played Desi Arnaz in a biopic and did his own singing. I think he did musical theater and choir in college so he ought to at least be able to carry a tune :)

    Ben Platt (who stars as Evan Hansen) and Rachel Bay Jones (Julianne Moore’s character who plays Evans mom) both won Tony’s for their performances. If the movie accurately portrays the characters, then yes, they will get Oscar nominations. It’s up to the director of this film (Stephen Chbosky) to get this adaptation right.

    • @filmfanaticx4212
      @filmfanaticx4212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Late to this, but I wanted to say have faith in Chbosky. I know virtually nothing of the original DEH play, but Chbosky's Perks of Being a Wallflower was an underrated gem from 2012 and his adaption of Wonder, while something I was dragged to see as I'm honestly not a fan of the book and didn't have much of a desire to see the film, was still a pleasantly surprising movie that I found myself actually enjoying far more than I thought I would. Both films like DEH, do deal with school and misfits/outcasts, so I would say Chbosky is a perfect fit for this based on what I've seen in this trailer and his other works...

    I have seen the stage version of this show and it was absolutely amazing. It is one musical that was created to be adapted in my opinion. The message is amazing and the music breathtaking. Nobody but Ben Platt could play the character and I cannot wait to see this film. I hope it doesn’t get missed during award season bc I’m already covered in goosebumps.

    So looking forward to seeing this on the big screen. I can't believe some of the other online comments which are making such a big deal out of Ben Platt's age in real life. Who cares how old he is? With that baby face and that voice he will eternally be Evan Hansen in my eyes.

    The stage version is emotionally brutal. I think the movie will be hard to get through honestly. My one gripe with the trailer, did the principal call Mr. Murphy his Step-father? I don't know why they would change that from the play, it seems like such a weird change to make.

    • @Cubbyholes69

      Probably because Danny Pino is Cuban and well Colton doesn’t really look like he could be Cuban lol minor change to perhaps accommodate Danny winning the role in casting I’m thinking 🤷🏽‍♂️

    live version was amazing. Wasn't with the original cast but still amazing in how the cast expressed their emotions so much that everyone in the audience could really feel it. I think the biggest thing that impacted me was actually the dynamic between the mother-son relationship. I listened to the soundtrack but i guess I didn't catch too much of what happened in the end just from the songs. Anyway, beautiful amazing movie. Thanks for sharing your reaction. This trailer caught me out of nowhere this weekend when I went to see Shang Chi. I knew nothing of the movie or musical. But there I was, in a packed theater, bawling my eyes out. I feel in some ways, this is a story of my life. I was a socially awkward loner in high school. Depressed, suicidal. I had one friend, who was very similar to me. He committed suicide in Junior year, and I was faced with telling his family many things about him that they didn’t know. While my story was different, in that he was actually my friend, I feel this movie is going to destroy me. I’ll have to wait for it to come out for home viewing. There is no way I could make it through this in a theater.

    I'm OBSESSED with the play - have seen it 5 times so far and have tickets for the Broadway re-opening on 12/11. I really, really wish they had just filmed the stage version like they did for Hamilton. To me the stage version is absolute perfection. I've been worried about how the intimacy of the live show will translate to the big screen. My first impression of the trailer was hmmm not sure about this. I did get a few chills, but also some questionable moments. Also I think they gave away too much information in the trailer - like Connor's suicide. There should be a spoiler alert or something lol. But I loved watching your reactions! You have given me a new perspective and so hoping for a pure masterpiece and lots of Oscars 🙂

    I feel kinda jealous for everybody who got to know even a little bit about the plot before seeing the show. I went in completely blind when I saw it in DC @ the world premiere. They had released hardly any information about the show at that time. The act 1 closer ("Part of Me") was so much darker than "You Will Be Found," which is hopeful. I was far from the only one sobbing uncontrollably at the end of act 1. My Mom said she thought she was going to have to take me home at intermission. Even through it emotionally destroyed me, I feel in love with the show that night. I've been fortunate enough to be able to see it pre/Off-Broadway and on Broadway at the very start of the run.

    I've seen a Broadway touring company of Dear Evan Hansen. It is brilliant, gorgeous, heartbreaking, beautiful...Absolutely phenomenal! This trailer actually looks like it is going to be wonderful. I do have an issue with them not casting the actress that played Evan Hansen's mom on Broadway. She was beyond good! Her name is Rachel Bay Jones and she actually won a TONY AWARD for her performance in it!! The show has a huge following and the movie is going to be a smash hit so they did NOT need to cast a movie star to get people into the theaters. It must be so frustrating for Broadway performers that absolutely slay in roles that they even win awards for but then lose out on playing the role when the movie is made. GRRRR

    I really liked the soundtrack for a while without actually knowing the story. For our honeymoon we got on a cruise leaving from New York so the night before we left my wife surprised me with tickets to watch Dear Even Hansen on Broadway. That was the night she discovered how quietly I cried because I cried throughout this whole show even to songs I knew already. It's jarring that Ben Platt is reprising the role (He wasn't Evan by the time I saw the show) because he's not a teenager and I think that's my only gripe. Really, this looks like they translated the show to film beautifully.

      It does look like they really focused on what makes the show great, and one of the main reasons for this is that Steven Levenson (The writer of the Broadway Musical) also wrote the script for the film. So if anyone should have an idea about what the narrative and emotional core of the story is, it's him

    I saw the musical and I think this looks fantastic. I think it is in good hands with the greats who did La La Land and the Greatest Showman. I didn't catch if that was just the music or production too. Regardless, I'm so excited!

    From what I understand from reading other reviews and information elsewhere, five of the original songs from the theatrical version were dropped and new songs written and have been inserted, sometimes in different spots, and as Ben and the young lady who plays Zoe Murphy - Kaitlyn Dever - reveal in a videotaped interview, the ending has been re-written to make more sense, and give closure, so it's not quite the same show as it was on Broadway, rather, it sounds like it was made - at least - more plausible and gives a more "realistic" ending, after the reveal to the Murphys, as to what actually occurred [what Evan did]. I did not see the theatrical version, although I wanted to, however, I was priced out of seeing the show by obscenely expensive tickets for the Los Angeles production, and with such an important/emotionally expressive show, I was not going to pay that much money to see the show from the "nosebleed section," so - in a strange sense of fate - the producers may have done me a favor, in not being able to see/experience the theatrical version. The cast sounds like it will be wonderful. The interview I saw tells a lot, if you are interested, and have 23 minutes to watch it, you can find it here: th-cam.com/video/dKyyvuD7rYk/w-d-xo.html.

    I’m really upset about people hating on Ben for playing Evan. do I wish they would’ve done it a couple years ago? Sure. But I think Ben deserves to play in the immortalization of Evan Hansen. This movie will being the sorry to SOOO many people and I think bc his performance on Broadway in this role is considered one of the best, he SHOULD play the role he brought to life.

      They definitely gave away most of the story. However, I think the consensus is though that because a majority of people know the plot - the show has been out for a while and well in the public consciousness - the trailers job is about showing how they will do justice to the adaptation. They know that based on the commercial success of the show the movie will likely be buzzed about and successful regardless, so I guess they are more focused on established fans. I also think a problem might be that the entire premise of the show banks around the major "twist" and as a result they kind of have to throw it in there. I think there might be a concern that general audiences will not understand what is going on without someone of the setup details, as spoilery or complete as they are. Additionally, imo the storyline itself is fairly predictable, but what makes the show is its soundtrack and heart. Even knowing the story will likely not take away from the viewing experience. But it does feel rather complete and might drive away new people, which is a shame too, you're not wrong.

    I saw the original cast minus Ben Platt, so I thought it’d be pretty hard to get emotional with DEH again. After seeing this trailer I am sorely mistaken lol

  • @cherry03512

    you guys are sweet, but i think you're being a little too kind. i kinda like that they casted the original evan hansen - ben platt - he's an amazing actor and singer, he's played evan a million times, he knows the role inside and out, but... he's 27, evan is supposed to be 17. a younger actor would have been better. (like for example andrew barth feldman, he also played evan on broadway and he's 19). but i love that they chose nik dodani for jared. i know him from atypical and he's a perfect jared, just curious to hear him singing.
    i'm so excited to finally see this movie, but also scared. this has to be amazing.

      I respectfully disagree. Ben deserved to bring this role to the big screen. I honestly don't see most people caring. If we can watch a movie that features a talking tree and raccoon and accept them, age shouldn't be that big a hurdle.

      @@misspriss2482 don't get me wrong, i love ben platt, he was in my opinion by far the best evan, it's just that he doesn't look like a teenager. i've watched the trailer many many times now (because i'm in love with it) and i learned to look past that detail. but DEH as a musical just means so much to me, i would be more than disappointed if it wasn't... amazing.
