To put it bluntly, half of his foot had rotted away and even wearing clothes caused him physical pain. So of course he wasn't moving around! The video was released in black and white deliberately to hide just how sick Freddie was. This was the final video Queen filmed, Freddie was all but on his death bed. Most Queen fans do like and respect it. It's power lies in its poignancy. Roger Taylor wrote it while watching his children, but it became very fitting for what Freddie was going through. And it served as a final goodbye to the fans.
I am so shocked at the very ignorant and disrespectful reaction to Freddie's last video to his fans before he passed away. He was in excruciating pain, could hardly stand up, was terminally ill but was so determined to leave a Love letter to Queen fans in Britain and around the world. You both look very immature and terrible in this video. We are still heartbroken at losing Freddie and find this so hurtful. I switched it off. Badly done fellas. Very badly done 😔
Thank you for saying what you really feel and not “mincing words”. (I also turn off reaction videos in the middle if I believe they’re “not up to par”. I’d rather go re-watch a well-done reaction or just go watch the original video.)
This song was a very emotional song for Queen. I think I am right in saying it was also their last recording. A few weeks later Freddie passed away. Poignant.
WOW.... You have both missed the point by many many miles....I can’t believe it. RIP Freddie..thanks for the songs and memories over so many years. 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
This was Freddie's last video he made and the end bit when he looks at the camera and says "I still love you." is thought to be him saying goodbye to his fans and that he loved them. There was one more Queen video but it did not have Freddie in it as it was made after Freddie's passing, and that is No-one But You (Only The Good Die Young) where the vocals are done by Brian and Roger.
Jeez, the lack of empathy for someone who was weeks away from death is mind blowing. The cultural differences between our countries in full display. Thank you Freddy for your last show of love to your fans. x R.I.P.
I remember when Freddie passed and this song came out. I wasn't even much of a Queen fan at the time, but his passing was a shocking event at the time.
This video was done for the fans. He knew it was not long before his death. Its in the lyrics. Looking gaunt, he could hardly stand up, thats why he don't move. You know thats not Freddie's way. He owned the stage usually.
There will never, ever be another Freddie! This song is beautiful and the video is extremely emotional and in some ways difficult to watch. That last message at the end as he looks into the camera and says that iconic line, "I still love you", breaks my heart every time, the last thank you and goodbye to his fans.
This song was witten by Roger Taylor who was reflecting on the past. It took on a new meaning when sung by Freddie who was in the last stages of his illness and life. The last line "I still love you" (which is unfortunately obscured by youtube) was a final goodbye to his fans. It went to No. 1 in the UK in 1991.❤❤
This was Freddies last video 6 months before he passed away. They did it in b and w because he was so ill. So May of 1991. He passed on Nov 24 1991. Freddies goodbye song to us. Freddie was dying doing his best and did an amazing job. It took it out of him. RIP Freddie. We love you too, Freddie.
Be nice, if people that do music reaction videos, actually do a little bit of research. Some do, some don't. Bohemian Rhapsody/These are the days of our lives was released after Freddie's death and raised a lot of money for AIDS charities. Roger Taylor wrote the song. Freddie worked hard to the end. An inspiration to many. I guess apart from two dumbasses sitting in the basement, doing music reaction videos.
This was Freddie Mercury saying goodbye. He was close to death. All concerns over what kind of thing a 'rock band' should do by this point were irrelevant.
"These Are The Days of Our Lives" is among the last songs Freddie Mercury recorded and released before his death. The music video is definitively Freddie’s final music video appearance. His make-up seems like an effort to both cover up and reveal his disease, a necessary cosmetic attempt due to his increasingly gaunt appearance and skin problems due to his suffering deterioration from symptoms associated with AIDS. The video also has a filter over it, to help the optics of his appearance. Apparently, in the recording studio, Freddie nailed the vocals to this song on the first take, which is not a stretch, given the song so comfortably in his range. The more challenging vocal efforts on songs such as “The Show Must Go On”, the album’s final track, are now known to have been astonishingly, and famously, effortless, given they sound as such, with the urgency of a seasoned singer with his time running out, whose vocals went from lyrical innuendo to recorded, palpable, and legendary legacy. “These Are the Days of Our Lives”, being chosen as a single-release, became more poignant on video, as a final visual “goodbye”, given Freddie’s approach in his performance, and truly authentic, and final, “I still love you”. He couldn't stand up alone at this stage of his life; he was propped up. The song has a wistful tone, extolling the virtues of living in the moment, given that’s all we ever “have”, and to perhaps enjoy it before it’s gone, without regret. Written by Roger, who had kids, he may or may not have intended for this song to be sung by Freddie. Freddie would’ve liked to have had kids himself and had a tendency to very much enjoy the children of close friend, confidant, (and ex-girlfriend) Mary Austin, and those of his bandmates, in all likelihood, making the line in the song, and its entire lyrics, both authentic and sad, given Freddie’s voice augmenting the song’s meaning far beyond the literal.
Considering this vlog is about queens song, there was a lot of talk about the American tv program. Do your research on queen year extra.its like me reviewing superbowl, then talking about paint dry.
Guess if you guys had knowledge of the background to this song, you would not have gone into reacting to it expecting a rock song and judging it accordingly. It was never intended to be a rock song. It was a sombre emotional song because it was Freddie’s way of saying goodbye to his fans before his impending death. Hence, the sombre expressions of the band throughout as they played the song, the black and white footage (to hide from fans how close to death Freddie was during filming), and his last message to fans - the whispered ‘I love you’ directly to the camera at the end
I agree with others who have left comments, it's actually written by and about Rogers life, but with Freddie dying in front of your eyes in this video, let's see how you would do just months away from dying? The song took on new meaning, it was for Roger solo career or possibly Queen, don't forget you have four very different people who all write and have solo careers running alongside Queen, as far as sounding like R&B maybe Queen isn't one you should be listening too they have 15 albums with totally different music, they didn't stick with one sound probably because they're highly intelligent people all with degrees from University and even a Doctor and Sir which is Dr Sir Brian May Astrophysicist, degrees for the others in Biology, Graphic Design and Electronics see if you can build your own Guitar, Amps etc and continue selling records, you might not like the record but maybe you should look up the context of the songs you've not heard as they'll be quite literally hundreds you've not heard
This is not a song you listen to as a Queen song. This is a song that you listen to to reflect over Freddies last moments and his passing and having lost such an icon at such an early age.
There’s a lot to be said, if you’re doing reaction videos, not to research beforehand so you’re approaching the video with a completely open mind. However, doing so - on this occasion, at least - left you guys appearing ignorant/insensitive, totally misunderstanding of the purpose of the video and why it is so beloved by fans of Freddie Mercury who, unlike you guys, understood and were emotionally affected by the message conveyed in this song as he said his last farewell to the world
These men have no insight at all. Do you know Freddie died, look at him in this video it was a farewell to his fans. Obviously you want Freddie to come out rocking like mad. Shameful
I'm a huge Queen Fan, I've interviewed Peter Freestone (Freddies PA) and the bands roadie Peter 'Ratty' Hince. These gents are not trying to be disrespectful, they dont know the full background regarding this song. It's a first time reaction and they clearly are not fully aware of the circumstances during the filming of this video. They are reacting to their thoughts on the song and if they didn't like it that's their perogative.
this was Freddie's farewell to the fans, he ways a dying man and it took courage to do this video, just watching it you could see he was masking the pain he was in , Nothing more to say on this ....
Sadly, they seemed to miss the point of this song. it was Freddie's goodbye to his fans. it was not written -- or performed - with the intent of beingbpopular or "catchey" etc .
guys it is a great song. you make it sound like someone had to do fred a favour. come on.. you don´t get it doens´t make it what you assume it to be. it is a very loved song among Queen fans and again, a beautiful song.
All My Children, The Young and the Restless. I watched those for years. I used to ditch school if something really good was going to happen like a wedding or something bizarre happening to someone. The problem was that it was supposed to happen on Monday but never actually happened until Thursday or Friday so I had to ditch for several days in a row...Soaps are addictive. Roger wrote this song about watching his kids grow up but because of when he wrote it, I feel that he was thinking back on his life with the band, it was obvious by this time that Freddie was running out of time and Queen would be no more. So I think there is a lot of that in this song as well. Freddie is saying his goodbye in the end of this song when he whispers "I still love you." At this time in Freddie's life he had 7 cats and the fabric on that vest was specially made for him and the cats pictured on it are his own. Freddie loved cats! I love this song but it also sort of makes me sad. This was Freddie's last video and he was so sick by this time that he could hardly stand and one of his feet had already rotted half away so stanging was incredibly difficult. His movements reflect how weak he was and he is wearing several layers of clothing in this video as well as a lot of makeup in order for him not to appear as thin as he was and to hide the sarcoma lesions on his face.
IN THIS VIDEO BRIAN MAY WAS IN AMERICA, SO THEY MADE THE BACKGROUND TO LOOK THE SAME AND LINKED IT ON. SO IT LOOKS LIKE HE IS WITH THE OTHERS WHEN HE WASN'T THERE. BECAUSE FREDDIE WAS CLOSE TO BEING UNABLE TO COMPLETE IT.
Maybe we should be sending some background info when we send links to these song videos. Can't add to the comments, everyone's said it all. And as a lifelong Queen fan since 1974, you'll know which way my views fall. But it also happens to be a damn good song! P.s. it's not "RnB"

I get that it wasn't a favourite of yours (you are entitled to that opinion, of course,) but didn't you listen to the words, let alone see that this was a dead man singing? And that riff about "Baywatch" was just uncomfortable to listen to. Sorry, guys. It's a thumbs down from me.
Understandable. I knew the audience wouldn’t like what we had to say. But we just didn’t like the song. We get that there is more to it than just the song but we were just speaking about the song

Freddie was very close to death here, his foot had a wound that wouldn't heal and he was in a great deal of pain, so of course he's not going to be dancing and jumping around like he used to, he could hardly stand as it was. A very moving song. Freddie's final "I still love you" still brings a tear.
