The deleted scene with Paulie (that REALLY should have stayed in) actually shows him breaking down and crying for the first time *ever* , it takes place immediately after he threw the tantrum in his restaurant. Easily one of the saddest scenes.

Maria's kiss is more of a "good luck"/"thank you" kiss than anything romantic. Both Stallone and the actress who played Maria have come out in interviews and completely shut down ANY consideration of there being a romantic issue involved. It was simply a real moment of gratitude and wishing someone the best at the same time.
Why Dixon is actually a GOOD character.
Because of his success, Dixon is considered "soft" because he had basically dominated the competition and the "critics" were saying that he had never really been "challenged". As such, he was personally feeling the same way Rocky was in Rocky 1. That he wanted to be taken "seriously". So when the chance came to fight Rocky, Dixon realized that it would give him the personal feeling of being "taken seriously" by taking on a legend like Rocky.
BUT, Dixon actually RESPECTED Rocky as both a fighter and as "the legend". As such, he didn't want to be known as the guy who just "beat up an old Rocky" OR the guy who "destroyed Rocky's legacy". Which is why Dixon didn't really want to do the fight, because to him it was a "no win situation" in general. But once in the actual fight, when he realized that simply BEING in the ring once more, Rocky's legacy was secured no matter what. So now it simply became an issue of fighter vs fighter, and THAT became more important when Dixon realized that Rocky wasn't going to "go soft on him", nor was Rocky going to "simply bow out". So, when the fight became "real", Dixon was "all in" because Rocky was "all in" for his own reasons.
And when it became "real" between the two of them, the overall "winner" no longer mattered as far as being a "boxer was concerned". BOTH MEN were now fighting for their own personal reasons. Rocky obviously wanted to see if he "still had it", while Dixon wanted to know if he was "actually a good fighter or not". As such, the fight turned out to more or less be about BOTH fighters winning "on the inside" no matter how the fight actually ended.
I agree with everything you said. I would say that Dixon was the least despicable opponent Rocky fought in this series outside of Apollo Creed of course.
@@TheShockninja -- Absolutely. Apollo is clearly the BEST opponent Rocky faced in the franchise. But Dixon was someone who you could RESPECT as a boxer, unlike the rest of them.
Which is why I think that Dixon's reaction to the computer simulation is perfect. To the outsider it looks like Dixon is upset that the computer had him lose the match. But INSIDE, Dixon is more likely upset because how would a computer KNOW what it is actually like being inside the ring, having to face someone who also KNEW what it was like in the ring.
I mean, it isn't Dixon's fault that he was always better prepared than his prior opponents were. But still, to see a computer completely remove the "inside the ring element" would tick off anyone. Especially someone who know how much preparations were involved AND the personal risk of injury but still entered the ring. So for me, seeing Dixon being upset over the computer simulation is more in line with how Apollo or Rocky would have felt if someone tried to simply "dismiss what it takes to enter the ring for real" but still act like they can predict an entire fight from the first to last bell.

That scene between Rocky and his son where he talks about life is probably one of the best scenes in cinema. So powerful! I have a shirt that has the quote from it.
This was his love letter to the fans, and it was BEAUTIFULLY done ❤ I cried off and on thru the whole thing the first time I watched it
You asked how Dixon hurt his hand. In boxing, the tape, gloves, and proper punch technique can usually protect the hand, but breaks still happen. Dixon punched Rocky right on the hip bone, and he instantly broke his hand and you can see him holding it to protect it. Using it after that hurts like hell. You can hear the ringside guys and Dixon’s corner man saying “it will numb up on you.” That means in a little bit it will go numb and you can start throwing punches with it again, and it won’t hurt as bad. You have to just ignore the pain and hope you don’t destroy your hand even worse as you use it. 💪
I love that this one ended the same as the first- with Rocky going the distance. Fantastic.

For Rocky, it's not about the win ... it's about the Heart! It's always been about the Heart. This is the perfect send off movie for the Rocky franchise. Much better than Rocky 5. The talk scene between Rocky and his son Robert is golden. Fantastic dialog.

The scene immediately after the fight as they were leaving where Paulie & Robert guide Rocky back out towards the crowd was not scripted. The filming of the fight took place in front of a real crowd who had come to see a heavyweight championship fight. Such was the appreciation shown by the crowd the two actors picked up on the vibe and got Sylvester to turn around and his reaction was one of true emotion for the crowd cheering for Rocky.
Can't wait to see the cute and adorable Ms. Biss's reaction to one of my favorite movies. She is just genuinely wholesome and sweet in her reactions. I think that is why she's my favorite reactor.

The Line refers to his name, Mason Dixon. In American history, The Mason-Dixon line was used to form state borders during a border dispute. The largest portion of the Mason-Dixon line, along the southern Pennsylvania border, later became informally known as the boundary between the southern slave states and northern free states. There is a deleted scene from this movie that really shows Paulie in a different light. You really really need to see the deleted scene with rocky and paulie, just after paulie throws his tantrum. Its sooo heartbreaking,,,, its the moment you finally turn and think paulie isnt that bad. Its a shame it was cut from the fil... i think it served a massive purpose to paulies character arc
"Punchy", the name suggested by Steps, is an insult, a slur referring to a boxer who has been hit too many times, and suffers from mental deficiencies as a result. Rocky knew that, but refused to be drawn in. Steps saw Rocky's good heart in that exchange, and started liking him more.
The reason why Little Marie said that "Punchy" as a name was disrespectful. Is because "Punchy" is a negative term used for boxers that have been punched in the head too much, and they now slur their words, and they aren't able to think correctly. I told you!!! When you were saying you admire Adrian’s speech in Rocky 3 I told you wait until you get to Rocky Balboa. That speech to his son is the greatest in film history in my opinion
Antonio Tarver who played Dixon in an interview something about Stallone like, "man, I hope I can move like that guy in my 50s or 60s."
I know a lot of people wanted Robert to become a boxer as well, but Adrian and Rocky both talked about wanted him to use his mind.

Rocky needed to fill a hole in his life, his own son stayed away, little Marie and Steps was something that he needed, a purpose in life.

Found your channel a few days ago, just finished binging the Rocky reactions. Definitely still hold the 1st Rocky as my favorite but this one holds a special place, my dad grew up watching Rocky and 6 was the first one I was able to see in a movie theater with him. Loving the reactions!
One of the major lessons the rocky movies try to teach is that winning has nothing to do with the public result.

My favourite Rocky movie. It's a perfect ending to the Rocky franchise as it brings it full circle back to the first film. In Rocky 1, he didn't care if he won the fight or not - he only wanted to prove he could go the distance with Creed. Even as the results are being announced, Rocky was more interested in finding Adrian. And in this film, he again doesn't care about winning - just proving that he still has the spirit in him to go the distance with a younger, faster and fitter fighter, walking out as the results are announced. Stallone did a stellar job with this movie.
I watched this movie in theaters with friends and family, and we were so hyped moments before the fight. We were all huge Rocky fans and we NEVER expected a new movie. I remember even the other theater goers reacting to the fight as if it was real one. Hearing a real crowd chant, "ROCKY", is pretty surreal.

I had no problem with the kiss between Rocky and Marie, though it is a moment of intimacy that goes beyond casual friendship, I see it simply as an expression of affection and acceptance. I'm surprised you didn't recognized Spider Rico in this movie. He was the very first fighter Rocky fought in the beginning of the very first Rocky movie. This is a special movie to me, it doesn't get enough credit. Everyone involved gives it their all & the speech by Stallone about life is up there with Bill Pullman's rousing speech in Independence Day.
Stallone personally spoke to the actress who played Adrian, Talia Shire & explained his reasoning for killing off her character saying she took the news with "so much dignity".
Talia said in an interview "The film has great regard for the process of mourning. Sly utilizes mourning to empower Rocky, and Adrian is made very mythical."

Sylvester Stallone was 60 years old when this movie came out. You have to give him credit for doing those training montage but also being fit for his age.

Not sure if anyone else commented on this, but there is a Mason Dixon line in the US. It separated some parts of the South and North during the Civil War and is a distinction of old vs new in the movie's context.
I have to be honest.....made me feel so old when Ms. Biss was unknowing of Sinatra...has it been that long. Yes you should react to Sinatra. Sinatra is in the top 20 greatest singers in the last Century, top 5 for a lot of people even...just wow mind blown away by that. feeling so old now...lol

Mason Dixon Line was the line that divided the North from the South during the Civil War.
This one and the first Rocky are my favourites of the series. Rocky Balboa was surprisingly fantastic when I watched it in cinema back in the day.
The mason-dixon line was a disputed border line between 4 states (colonies) in the 1700s. That is why they called him"The Line"
“The Line” is admittedly a dumb reference to something we have here in the US. The Mason Dixon Line is the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland, and was once generally considered the border between “the North” and “the South.” It’s also why the South got the nickname “Dixie.”
Dixon hurt his hand by punching Rocky right on the hipbone.
She gave a perfect review of the Creed movies at the end of this video. One was really good, two was okay, three was not good.
Paulie threw a tantrum because his sister passed and there's no way to reconcile, work was the only thing to keep him occupied. Paulie lived with Adrian, but he wasn't the one who got them out of the neighborhood. There was the bit of jealousy towards Rocky, he's stubborn but he loved his sister and he loved Rocky.

To me, Rocky Balboa is the second best movie in the franchise. Everyone loves Rocky II and for good reason. But that speech he gives his son about life is perfect. That speech is probably the best writing Stallone has ever done and probably the best acting Stallone has ever done. It's one of the best, most powerful and inspiring speeches I've ever heard in a movie. That speech alone puts Rocky 6 on a whole other level.
As a fanboy, I love that Duke is now Rockys trainer. As brief as it is, Duke has the best dialogue hes had in the franchise since Rocky 2.
And Paulie made me cry when he told Rocky, "I love you." If that abusive pain in the a** can effect me like that, thats saying something.
And Punchy is a brilliant name for Rockys last dog.

At least Rocky got one more fight against someone fresh. He didn't win, but he finally let out everything that was hurting.
But also, I recommend the Creed series, which is a trilogy, and takes place with Apollo Creed's son, Adonis Creed.

Enjoy it. Dixon has one of the best traits among all the opponents Rocky fought. He at the least still got some respect and is respectful. This is a great wrap up to Rocky (not including Creed of course). Adrian needed to be dead in order for the movie plot to happen so Sylvester and the Talia agreed to kill off her character. But of course, it's still a sad thing.
Stallone did not like 5 and wanted to finish in a good mode. The end was like 1 where he won even though he lost, things going full circle.
I watched this in 2006 with my dad, after his first overdose. It’s a pretty good movie. He really liked it.
I love your reactions. I remember you mentioning a godfather reference during the 1st rocky reaction. I was wondering if you have watched the godfather and/or godfather 2 and if so was it a reaction video. If not, do you plan on watching it and having it as a reaction video.
It's not readily available to watch online (DVDs are for sale), but just before this movie came out, Sage Stallone wrote and directed a 40 minute film, VIC, about a long out-of-work actor who gets an audition opportunity but loses his beloved dog on the same day. It was very moving, and it's worth tracking down.
When this came out, he half-jokingly complained that his dad heavily borrowed from his short to create this story.
Since you asked, I'd say Rocky is my favourite of the series by a long way. After that I'd probably go: 3, Balboa, 2, 4, Creed and then 5 a long way down at the bottom. I thought Creed had two good moments but I wasn't really into the whole film so I haven't gotten round to seeing the sequels.

Rocky 6 was GOING TO BE the "ending of the Rocky franchise", which is why it feels more like a "send off" than you would think going into it NOW. But the original idea was that Rocky would simply go about his life "pre-fight" as just another "normal guy".
But a few years later, they wanted to do the Creed series, and Creed 1-2 became the REAL ending of the Rocky character (as Creed 3 was done without Stallone's involvement) and actually had a far more "uplifting ending" than we got in Rocky 6.

You may not like Paulie but he has been there for Rocky his whole life. You really should watch the deleted scene with Paulie Its really a shame they cut it out of the movie. He is flawed but he has a heart of gold.
Sometimes I see reactors that don’t quite understand what a “split decision” means. It’s a tricky expression because it does seem to mean a draw but it doesn’t. There are 3 people that judge the fight. If one of them disagrees with the other two then that is a split decision. The boxer that two judges picked as the winner does indeed win the fight.
