    You make it so easy for me to redo everything in my style! No more, "I like that lamp, but the shade is boring." Now the shade can be exactly what I like.

    Thanks for the great instructions, Mark! I noticed that the shade that you are covering is rather small. The one I need to do has a 5" diameter at the top and about 20" at the bottom. Is there a formula to determine how far apart to space the pleats at the top and bottom? I am betting that I will not be able to wrap several pleats the way that you did but I am OK with glueing each one the bottom of the shade. Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you might have. Chris

      @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one BUT you could get a decent idea with some simple math...Measure from top to bottom and how far they would need to be spaced at the bottom and then multiply by the diameter of the base. For example, if the diameter of the base is 25" around and you need 2 strips per inch then you'll need 50 strips. Then multiply 50 by the length of each strip and that will be approximately how much bias you'll need. Hope that's helpful.

      @@MarkMontanoMakeYourMark Thanks Mark, actually I hadn't even gotten that far in my thinking so that is very helpful. I think that I did not properly articulate my original question. I was trying to figure out how far apart to space the pleats at the top but now, I think that if they are spaced 2 inches at the bottom then they should probably be spaced.5 inch at the top.

    Hi Mark,
    Another question? How to measure for how much fabric to the size of the shade?? And when you fold on the Bais will the cut fabric get smaller??

    • @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark
      @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one because this is all bias fabric strips. I'd say about 1 yard for a small shade, 1 1/2 for a medium shade and 2 for a large shade. If you have extra you can use it to wrap presents during the holidays!

    Hi Mark. Greetings from the UK! I hope you are well. I love this method for covering a lampshade. It looks really good. Thank you! You may have answered this somewhere else already about amounts of fabric, but can I check again please? I have a large shade - 47.5" top circumference/15" diameter x 75.5" bottom circumference/24.5" diameter, and a height of 14" approx. How much fabric do you think I would need? 2yrds?? More? Many thanks indeed. Stay safe and well!!

    • @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark
      @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alison, though I'm not really sure about how much you'll need, I'm thinking 2 yards worth of bias binding would about do it. You could make the bias a bit wider, too.

    Okay. In addition I have a fancy Satin European Lampshade that needs a new shade. I want to make it just like I purchased it with all its curves and fringes. How do I make a pattern for it? I bought a flex curve to copy the design but I am sure you can instruct me how to do the project right.

    Do you have a tutorial for recovering a lampshade that is cloth over some kind of stiff paper? The ring at the top is not connected to the bottom ring. The cloth is badly faded. Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Mark,
    I have an oval top and and bottom wires of a lamp shade, no sides to hold the two together. What would you suggest to help me hold this together to wrap my material ? I thought of a clothes hanger. But it still wouldn’t be the answer. Any other help for me?

      Try using a flexible cardboard to create the shape and then wrapping it in fabric. That might work.

  • @phyllisj894
    @phyllisj894 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This may be a dumb question, but if I wanted to use this in a real lamp would I want to use something other than hot glue? I would be afraid that the hot glue would melt once the lamp was turned on.

    • @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark

    can I do this with Robin?

    • @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark
      @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can IF you have a barrel shade. When the shade is slanted (top circumference smaller than the bottom) you need the bias so that it molds to the shape without creasing or folding.

  • @becky6739

    Do you sew the strip ends together to make one long strip?

    • @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark
      @MarkMontanoMakeYourMark  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, if you sew them at an angle and then press them. Otherwise it's best to glue them together on the inside of the shade so you don't see any seams on the outside.
