    I've been to this restaurant and I can confirm, that the chef is like this with every customer, if he has time. It was the best lunch at a restaurant ever!

    Will never forget.
    Expo '86 Vancouver.
    Czechoslovakia pavillion.
    Was 13 years old and my family stopped to dine at that pavilion's restaurant. We didn't know what to order from the menu... asked for any recommendations from the server.
    The waitress placed the plate in front of me. Tan gravy, meat something underneath.
    🤯 my mind and tastebuds were blown away. I couldn't believe what I was eating...I was in absolute shock.
    The manager running the restaurant came to our table.. introduced himself, welcomed us and asked how we enjoyed the meal. Remember myself excitedly asking him what this dish was and telling him how fantastic it tasted.
    "Svickova..."
    He pat me on the head, smiled and thanked us.... then walked to another table.
    After a little while I feel another pat on the head from behind. The manager returned with two more servings of svickova and placed them in front of me😄
    What a true gentleman.
    35 years later...I've never forgotten the dish or the hospitality of those people.
    Unbelievable.

      Thanks for mentioning this! My parents were born in Sudeten Germany, which was part of Czechoslovakia before WW2, so most of the "ethnic" food I grew up eating was predominantly what Germans ate in that area of the world, heavy on the Czech influences! I will definitely have to try making Svíčková (a sauce made from root vegetables and heavy cream) myself!

Especially for you from Swiss it will be all extremely cheap here so you can aim for really good restaurants., Although not everytime the most expensive are the best ones. Swiss is lovely and safe country too and one of the best places to live. However, Czech in past few years is becoming paradise for living. I have traveled almost whole world in my previous job and I can tell you that there is not many countries I would like to live other than Czech. Swiss, Austria and New Zealand possibly Island are the only ones I can think of.

    • @Yves_Ka
      @Yves_Ka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, I noticed that too. It has nothing to do with The Czech Republic. It has to do with the fact that it was a roast (or braise) and the sauces for these are made with what remains after you remove the meat from juices. It is a cooking technique that is used all over Europe especially in the UK.
