Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I've been studying for the SAT and ACT like crazy for about a little while now, and I'm hoping I'll be in good shape by the time November roles around. I'm in 2 AP classes (that's all I'm able to take this year, due to moving in the middle of my sophomore year and my inability to retain information relating to math, haha..). Honestly, I can already feel the weight of this next school year coming down on my shoulders. Thank you guys so much for the luck haha.
Even though there aren't guidance counselors in college, most schools do have major-specific advisors which can help you plan your schedule. They were usually hit or miss in terms of how helpful they were at my school, but I was fortunate and had a fantastic one who really helped me plan out my schedule each semester. Often classes are full but if you can't get into the classes you need, you can often get forced into them. And it gets easier to plan your schedule as you get more into your major because you have less classes you need to take left, so there are less options and usually those classes are only offered at one time. Also I felt like I had much more control over my success in college. Professors don't care if you don't show up or try because they can just fail you. But if you do try, they'll value that and be much more likely to round up a grade if you're on the border at the end of the semester.
Papers and homework. College papers are different than high school papers, there's more expected of you, and often times professors (depending on your major) will expect different formatting than high school teachers did. Citations and bibliography can vary in different classes (different papers, English vs. History vs. sociology, usually have different preferred styles of citation). And homework is so different. Just in volume and what's assigned, and how 'reading' isn't even really seen as homework, just as what you're supposed to do. How things are really specific (you HAVE to turn an assignment in online by a specific time, or you HAVE to turn in a physical copy). And participation in college can often make or break your grade.
Office Hours!! Email your professors if you need clarification. Also if you are working and have conflicts let your professors know they will work with you if that means taking a test early or giving you an extension. Building a professional relationship with your professors help with getting recommendations when you go for a job, peace corp, or what to continue your education. I am pretty sure the stellar relationship I had with my favorite professor was the reason I was able to get into my graduate program.

The main thing with class scheduling is that you have to know what time of day you work best. I'm a morning person, and was dead by lunch time, so for me, it was best to have my classes between 9-10 in the morning and go straight through without breaks. If I took a break, I for the most part, wouldn't want to leave my dorm again for the rest of the day.

From my experience at Uni in Canada, most of the clubs were on a drop in basis, you didn't need to apply or anything, so for me it was kinda like high school in that sense. I totally agree about the campus tho, my uni has the most beautiful campus and was tons better than my high school.
I love getting to pick my own schedule, it's great. Except i'm not going to a main campus so there's limited classes and i'm stuck with class at 7:45 a.m. Monday-Thursday. Not looking forward to that this fall.

wait in US high school the exams are only a small percentage of final grade? Thats so different where in the Uk in high school its anything from around 70% to 100% pure exams for your grade

When I was in college, I had no clue what I was doing. Everything from the scheduling and subject matter had me drunk in confusion. I was dying from a lack of instructions. Students should be taught in high school how to navigate college. I don't understand why that isn't taught.

I'm halfway through my senior year now and while all my friends are stressing about getting into college and applying for college I've already been early accepted, offered a scholarship from my university, and already have a spot saved. Therefore, no! It's great to be thinking ahead! it's wonderful to have all of that off of your plate when you already have so much to worry about. Senior year is crazy and there's a lot to think about. Get some stuff done early :) Do your research and visit college campuses before you're a senior. I promise it will pay off. Hope this helped
