- Tim March was the other big name in 80's BMX to Andy Ruffell these guys

some of the early BMX race teams, then went on to expand his brand MRD
from making handlebars, race plates, stickers and brake guards and with
the help of Tran Am moved on to making UK made MRD frames with a huge
team and a double decker bus to ferry 'em all around. Tim has lived it,
After a hiatus from BMX he came back into it when he scored a job at 4130
publishing, home of Ride UK, and that point many other publications, the
story continues on to the factory media buy out and the creation of the
Albion magazine….Theres no holding back here, its another long runner,
and we still need to know more!

So glad I lived this - it was a beautiful time 😊
Fucking great stories in there. When he said about shops giving that bit extra care...John and Ray at Cyclone did that with me. The core image with their level of customer care reeled me in. Thanks Tim for literally throwing your entire life at BMX. You are an unsung hero and it's great seeing someone wear their heart on their sleeve, whilst sharing your interesting tales.
Thanks Chris! Hope ya good mate!
Loved this! Old buggers talking the truth. Love the wizard beard Tim
Hands down the best one yet John. Thanks for the work and massive thanks to Tim for sharing this.
Wow what an amazing interview 😁
Brilliant interview, Tim March is such a legend 👊
Thank you!
This was simply amazing, love Tim, where would the UK scene have been without his life’s input?
Such an honest and humble bloke.
These pods are becoming the lifeblood of our scene John, keep up the amazing work you guys are doing.
My No.1 go-to BMX Culture podcast. 🙏🏻👊🏻👊🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a lot Grant! Thats high praise indeed. more to come and thanks again!
I saw Tim in the 80s at a race meeting in Cumbernauld (Scotland) he gave a young chap with Downs his bike. Lovely to hear him speak about BMX and how his love for the sport hasn't left him. Great Interview 😎👍
Nice on, thanks!
Thanks for this John I loved every minute of it!!, what an absolute legend and a proper character, I rode in the craze days and he came to a Lee cooper shop in the town near me to sign autographs and give out some freebies and there was so many kids there it was nearly a riot and the police nearly got called!!, I still use a saying of his to this day!! After everyone jumped ship in 86 to skateboarding I did the same and I still skate and if someone has a slam I say 508 are you alright!!, I think it came from a tv thing with Tim coaching kids how to race and one of the kids had 508 on his plate and he fell and Tim said the famous words which my close mates still use today but about skateboard slams!!, what a man!!!!!
Thanks Jon, glad you still skating, keep it up!
Keep up the good work my friend, iv got a bit of super 8 footage of me and my mates riding in the early 80’s! I must put it up on my channel!! If I do I’ll send you a link 🤟🤟

Do appreciate someone who’s willing to be outspoken on subjects that most avoid,
especially nowdays!

Love the podcast! Always looking forward for the next episode… great job.
it was 'Surrey Skateboards' shop in Woking.
They always used to do cheap Vans, stopped in there before the Tizer worlds round in Woking in ‘87 - NH
Love the 🧂
That being said, acting like him putting 12k in the Albion and the other three didn’t offer anything is spoken like a true business man.
Benson, George and Banners made the Albion stand out. Different from other mags at the time.
They offered extremely high quality photos and editorials along with having connections with relevant BMX era at the time.
Something you can’t spend 12k to replace.
I agree, but I dont think he meant they were putting in nothing, as they were putting in the work, which is why i thought it balanced it out? I'd say that was a team effort.
@@theuniontapes 100% but I don’t think any other photographers in the UK could have produced that mag, Benson had really good connections with people who otherwise weren’t looking to be in the BMX media at the time and most likely wouldn’t have gone anywhere near Dig or Ride.
Also as someone who lived in the Hatehouse during the voices / tomorrow we work time no one was pretending to be poor. Very weird comment to make. It was just typical students living like rats, we got student loans and the dole and that’s about the extent of it.
🤦 'PromoSM'
100% honest. great .. respect...🏆🏆
A lot to take in in this episode 🤌🏼
