    Buy this seal and pressing tool by URO - note that you will still need a pry tool and it's critical not to touch the white plunger while working the seal out. Also note that the pressing pipe has one end at an angle, this end is the one used to press/tap the seal in as in the URO video below: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-W212-W204-W203-W163-X204-C209-Power-Brake-Booster-Plunger-Seal-Kit-URO/192370789193?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    Easier to just jump out the switch that way you’re already in the engine bay. Or if it’s on bench feed with 12v. Good video orange

    Thanks for the video. The Hella booster on m y 2005 Volvo v50 t5 doesn’t make any sound at all with the key in position II and the brake pedal pressed to the limit. When the car is first turned on in the morning, the brakes are almost useless for the first two or three times I pump them.

      @Peppermint1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your car is equipped with a pump, I would think the pump is no longer functional (usually caused by a leak in the brake vacuum system)

      Hi Sandris, we don't have the D5 engine here in the US. Not sure if this UK forum would be of any help, but they have many D5 engines www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=19

    You say the red seal kit is rubbish, it it still the case?

    @Peppermint if you don’t hear the vacuum pump making noise when you step on the brake pedal does that mean that the pump is definitely broken? Or could it be because the vacuum switch is broken? Or the booster seal as you mentioned

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The pump should run only when the car was parked overnight, and we put the key in POS II without starting the engine, and step on the brakes. Even then, the pump noise is very faint, good to have someone listening with the engine hood opened. If the pump doesn't make noise, either the system keeps vacuum really well, either the pump no longer works. Even better is to do the test after the car has been parked for several days - the system has time to loose more vacuum so more chances the pump will run when being tested. In normal operation, this pump works mostly within the few minutes of driving, when the engine is cold and the system has not enough vacuum. Also, when we start the engine, it revs at 1800rpm for about 20 seconds - this helps heating up the catalytic converter for a better efficiency, and also prime the braking system vacuum so as to preserve the pump from running

    • @Peppermint1

      Is the switch connector pushed all the way in ? Depress the metal clip fully. Also double check the hoses at the switch are placed each on their correct side of the switch

    My 04 S60 blows the brake booster fuse every time, I am planning to replace the pump as it is most likely shorted on the inside. Just wanted to know if you think that is the issue, you know much more about this car than I do. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The booster seal fails on these cars and cause the pump to run and wear out - have a look at the linked videos at the very end of this video (last seconds). I would simply disconnect the connector at the pump and replace the fuse, see what happens. Then unplug the pump switch (see linked videos) and replace the fuse again. Test item by item. If needed I would buy a used pump off Ebay, new switch is about $60 I think. On this link I have videos about the pump, switch and booster seal th-cam.com/play/PLl-l6yge4ast4eLeuPpECTts0FSVSOT_c.html

      @@Peppermint1 Thank you so much, you're the man! I'll try this over the weekend and also adding a diy aux cable to the radio using an Arduino. Definitely will keep you updated. Thanks again.

      @@luigiman121100 Keep in touch. Are you on Volvo forums? Like www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=9 ? That would be nice to share there. The folks on www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=19 also have quite often questions about audio Aux input (we also undo the car battery when working on the radio & other modules) cheers

    Pepper my friend, Ive hissing sound while PRESSing the brake only, when not its fine. But while pressing it sounds like pumping inflatable pool toy. Do I have to change this seal? Its hissing from the pedal side of the Brake Booster! Take care

    What happens if I have this buzzing and I don't fix it?

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If there is a leak in the vacuum system, at some point the pump will wear out and the brakes will become harder to operate (hard pedal). A good test is to disconnect the pump and to drive the car - see how easy are the brakes to operate when the pump doesn't work.

    Where do you recommend to buy Volvo parts in Canada?

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For new parts, I use the Eeuroparts.com site, they can ship to Canada with UPS World Ease which has all import/douane taxes paid upfront so no surprises. I also bought parts from Napa stores but it is risky because they don't have the good brands (Sachs, Lemforder, Continental timing belt, Ina, Bosch). There are also part stores that sell european brands but it's hard to find these shops, I know in Montreal there is one called Autoelectra Inc., perhaps worth asking on local Canadian forums for these shops. Also worth asking on forums like www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=9 which are the good brands to buy. I also like to go to junkyards like Kennyupull and look for recently installed genuine parts, like ignition coils, suspension parts, etc.
