Playing a lot of other games is very important when it comes to mindset and being able to learn. I come from a fighting game background and whenever I feel myself get stuck with a certain matchup and feel burnt out, I often play other games so that I am able to clean my head and learn more effectively. Other games can give you a fresh mindset and allow for you to look at other games in completely different way, and I love that you are talking about this.
@@PhantomDrafter I'm a huge AFGC person so I'm used to games like CF, BBTAG, UNI, GBVS, and so on. So, I play a lot of mixup heavy games rather than just pure out neutraling someone. Because of that I really like Bermuda's and Neo Nectar just because they have a lot of different gameplans that they can go for, and I really enjoy that.
Just watching this helped me rethink my mentality when it comes to competing in things, not just vanguard, since it isnt my main game. Im excited to just think healthier when it comes to fighting games
10:16 I can attest to this I've been streaming vanguard Zero for a couple months now and I've improved so much cause this. Just by watching back some of my matches to try and upload them to youtube and speaking with people that view the videos. Its helped see everything in hindsight, especially since I never played a single game of Vanguard before Zero.
When I started playing the game playing OTT it took me forever to properly understand how to stack the triggers and how to make the best of the stack. Later with MLB it took me a while to realise when I wasted my CB on Blaster Blade when I could have just attacked over the card and saved it for a later BB or a Star Caller... I still make a lot of mistakes, but I try to get better. And yeah, I still get angry about triggers sometimes, but I try. I think. I hope. Sometimes.
Well said Differentfight, well said. I learned this pretty much at a young age but I never rlly used it to my advantage, therefore I’m kinda stuck in this loop of mindset. I’ll most likely take your advice on this now that you mentioned abt it. This topic doesn’t apply alone to school or card games, it applies to the general world itself: sports, cooking, and even government issues. Overall, a rlly well put video on a great topic. Great job Differentfight.👍🏼
Learning this game with less handholding has always been fun to me, which is why I enjoy both formats since Standard is commonplace and Premium is for big brain plays that don't need 10 minutes of bollocks to stop playing the match(MR 4.5 Dragoon shenanigans).
I myself am guilty of just trying to smash face. I do not get to play as often so you make a good point. Thank you for giving me something to think about and improve on.
Solid video my friend usually play over discord every week and at the end of every match we talk about the result of triggers but we also talk about what we did in our plays what our hand was at a certain point. Last week I also had a rude awakening cause he used his Gancelot deck for the first time in a while and I thought it would be an easy win little did I realize he was able to rush me while I was still and Grade 2 and was un able to really push and lost.
@@DifferentFight and thats not bad :) in nuzlockes they are necessary imo AND swords dance/dragon dance are op dont sleep on them and never let your opponent get to +6 atk or +6 sp atk otherwise ur preparing to get swept lmao
Something that helps me is saying my thoughts out loud. It helps clear my mind and allows me to spot my misplays as I play the game. It's a lot like writing down distractions as you work. After you write down what's distracting you, you're much more likely get back to work, instead of pursuing that distraction. The biggest obstacle to learning is making excuses that you know are just excuses. We all do that, but acknowledging it and working on it is better than not having worked on it at all. You can't 100% make no excuses, but you can still 50%, and that's better than 0%.
It's funny when I played all throughout g I never really thought about matchups and just kind of played normally no matter the opponent, but recently, after playing some yugioh, I'm very aware of matchups and have started adapting my deck to my local area and what decks they play. I've been thinking even more about my decisions than I thought I would, and this is all in standard. I'm starting premium soon since my new shop plays premium and I imagine looking at match ups and analyzing matches are going to be even MORE important now.
Haha I had the exact same learning experience by picking up YGO more competitively as well a couple years ago, and yes especially in Premium the matchup knowledge will be ESPECIALLY important!
agreed zero has been a learning session for me like when ur deck just goes brrr and gave you all the g3s in hand 🤣🤣🤣 i'll be like: oh well it's just another bad hand
I know you are right. I know that your point is valid. I know from playing yugioh that just how important learning the game mechanics and matchup can be. But I can't help but raging at Zero when I brick hard, get grade stuck and opponent always getting triggers at the right time. Zero will eventually get better but sometimes I just cant help but wanna delete the game lol.
It has honestly felt a lot better in break ride era in JP, but I’m glad to know that it’s still only gonna get better as we progress through Legion and G lol
I normally try to avoid thinking triggers and say "regardless of triggers, what could i have done differently and what would it do?" Yesterday I lost game 2 in my locals, cuz i discarded dailiner and the guy was gradestuck, so i had less pressure with Bladblack when he was g2...so I learned something there
Shout out to the boy Henry from G Next he became God Tier literally cuz of learning lmao, he listened to what the others told him and applied it immediately
hey differentfight. ever taught about having people record and send their vids to you so that you can review the match on how the sender could have played better. either zero or paper
This may sound nerdy so I apologize. Me currently learning economics: determining the opportunity cost and marginal cost when buying Vanguard cards. Now that’s one way of learning in Vanguard😂
As for me, I am not enjoying the state of Zero, but I believe the game will improve over time which is why i haven't uninstall it. Which is why I play a lot of MTG Arena. Also, I love Physical CF more. However, my parents dislike me spending money to play physical cards. But, I love Vanguard which is why I stuck with it.
That's unfortunate :( Sometimes it can definitely be hard to convince parents how important having such a hobby is, especially in comparison to other expensive hobbies that adults often pursue LOL
Great video man! Is important to learn from your mistakes. BTW,would you recomend playing shadowverse? I'm burn out of VZ. (Really,I don't even wanna enter the app)
I was going to comment on the fb post, but I'll go here instead This video is weirdly eye-opening. I went on hiatus from this game between Tirua and Cocytus, and before this I was -personally- much better as a player. I could pick up bad plays in myself and in others and tell them how to correct it. Toped a Springfest and took fights to 7C rush at Cardiff which my result got hampered because I drew into my g3 ride target a turn later and G-assisitng against that deck is fairly suicidal. But I've really struggled to get back into the game mentally, and emotionally. My last successful time in the game was when Riviere came out, but otherwise I struggled to even take a game back within a match. I have games where I go "oh deck uses cb, if I just don't give them it, I should be fine", next turn I just outright lose, and makes this whole CB denial gameplan really moot. We all learn differently but my progress itself just hasn't even snapped into action. I think a video about self-defeatism and getting that emotional/mental connection back into the game should be something to consider. The line about school learning is a good thing to note, since my hiatus I started uni, but even that hasn't improved any learning capacity for me within this game It's a lovely vicious cycle
Yeah I think covering frustration and defeatism is definitely a good thing too, since it’s often the feeling of tilt that can easily cloud judgment in general - thanks for your input as well!
Same with hearthstone I still wanna try and climb to Legend but ... Don't know .. just feel like I'm forcing myself to climb . Unlike Zenonzard Cause of the event currently going on the Kamen Rider event
I won some matches because I attacked with my vanguard and my opponent guarded that attack and then I didn't attack with rear so he didn't get his counterblast
Nice, although for me right now I am completely put off from the game honestly I am not new at tcgs at all and the luck I have with vanguard is diagusting in general allegedly you dont need to check more triggers than your opponent rather its checking them when it counts so even if little make them count but it has gotten to the point where I have gone weeks back to back where I have gone amd checked only 1 trigger in multiple games either drawing the rest or just never seeing them some where so bad I had 12 cards in deck and 10 were trigger I am not EXAGGERATING I showed my sibling I drove check for a twin drive and got nothing. There were other games where I played perfectly with shadows as much as my hand allowed me and it didnt matter because I had hit only 2 triggers at tge start and drawn the rest with 3 left in deck other times I hit 1 and my opponent has hit 6 back to back. Point being I genuinely have almost had an anurism from this not to even mention the gatcha banners which are another whole can of worms with the atrocious rate pulls but hey could just be my garbage luck and thats because I do consider myself a good player still in the end but hey luck is a factor and we metigate it by our skill to minimize how much is left to it thats the morale
Ya boi is still an idiot here and relies too much on pulling "that one front trigger", I've (mostly) moved on from that, but... the feeling man, it's just calling, i could have pulled the front and won...
Also, yes, Dopamine on trigger sacking SUCKS! If it is an opponent trigger, of course. But in vanguard, the missplays that makes you lose are also easy to see. E.g.: during Ji Station's stream yesterday, there were some missplays, like the guy not riding Dragonic waterfall and using blademaster skill for only a vision token, or one of the murakumo guys that took out an Emblem master insteat of killertail.
I think this is a big reason why a lot of people think Premium is broken. Standard is easy enough that if you know the ins and outs of the game, you can pretty casually play any deck well, against practically any other deck. In Premium you're going to lose a lot to every decent deck before you learn how to play around the massive threats each clan has in the format. Premium is hard, deck building is more important, and there are so many things to keep track of. It's easier to feel like you're good at the game when you're playing Standard, so when you've played a lot of Standard and have a decent win rate, then lose 10 times in a row in Premium, it's really easy to blame those losses on how "broken" the format is, because you already think you're good at the game.
Might have to remind ppl of this game of yours? th-cam.com/video/3UeYWNVwKJQ/w-d-xo.html
Really needed this video. Always been losing to my friend and thought that I can learn something from the loss.
