    I've been following Project Zomboid for many years. I don't mind waiting for updates when the team is putting out quality. There is plenty of low quality game developers. I will support game devs putting out quality content over others every time.
    Thanks for the introduction.

    I like when there is risk in the game. It encourages you to use all the tools available. I find a lot of games that have frequent saves I horde potions and such because I know I can push, and not loose much if I fail.

    • @crowhaveninc.2103

      Exactly this. A lot of gamers seem to complain that consumables are usually useless in most games, but those same people tend to complain when they are actually useful.
      Ever since I started playing classic rogue-likes I've been using consumables a lot more in games in general. So yeah, I also welcome a save system like this. It would still be nice if they could implement a "casual mode" for people who are not into it, of course. But as Splat said, this seems to be difficult with this game.

      @@crowhaveninc.2103 I tend to forget about consumables in a lot of games. Games can turn me off if there are a huge spread of consumables (like in Dragons Dogma) or types of currency. I don't want to have to manage my inventory with twenty different consumables in order to deal with the twenty status affect changes the game can curse me with. Not the most interesting part of any game. Also, in the case of Neverwinter, I eventually lost interest because there are, like, five or six different types of currency used for different stuff.... sweet... managing finances is my favorite part of DnD.

      @@crowhaveninc.2103 i don't think its the same people complaining about both, just common problems with expectations, people either get used to the games that potions are a big deal or the ones you just stack them in your inventory (the difference between the person that lvls alchemy vs the person that lvls restoration in skyrim for example)

    8:45 you can talk to the guard in the barracks and he'll give you a free weapon of choice, so you don't necessarily need to go buy your first blade in order to skin animals.
    Also, in regards to skinning, the damage type used for killing animals affects the loot you get from skinning them. For example using spears and bows for piercing damage will more likely drop pelts, meanwhile using pyromancy for fire damage will not drop pelts after skinning them, but will likely drop cooked meat instead of raw meat.
    12:45 the tailor will pay more for the pelts than the carpenter.
    You can swim over the river :P

    INFO :
    they have changed the SAVE system ; now, there are 2 type of saves :
    1. a "hard save" when you sleep (which is persistent)
    2. an "auto save", that occurs when you quit the game ; and gets detroyed whenever you load your game back.

    The thing that interested me the most about Stoneshard is the fact that it gained a huge amount of traction - way more than I was honestly expecting. There’s almost 18K reviews on Steam, and it’s still an Early Access product.
    With it having a lot of the spirit of a true roguelike, I wonder if this game might bring in more attention to that genre? I’ve seen several threads of people asking for similar games, and the answers are often other roguelikes.

    • @maya_gameworks
      @maya_gameworks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1. The game gained traction because this is one of the very few games who follows the traditional Diablo visual aesthetics (in inventory, world layout, visuals in general).
      2. Roguelikes have MORE THAN ENOUGH attention on Steam in the indie sphere. More than enough. I hope you are not talking about AAA games adopting roguelikes because AAA games evolving and adopting popular indie genres is just something that would never happen. The best thing that can happen with AAA sphere in general is sudden disappearance of any and all AAA IPs from the gaming market for good, so that indie companies can take their place.

    • @Phirestar
      @Phirestar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was referring explicitly to _traditional rougelikes_ - games like Caves of Qud, Tales of Maj’Eyal, ADOM, and so forth - not the more popular roguelites, and not AAA games either. What I was saying is that I wonder if the major attention that Stoneshard has received might bring a lot more people into playing other games in the genre like those I just listed. Because outside of maybe the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games (which has apparently spawned its own genre called “mystery dungeon”, and I’m not sure if there’s actually any difference between that and simply calling them roguelikes), traditional roguelikes aren’t really known outside the sphere of people who play them. Unless you have some in your own library, or watch a person who covers traditional roguelikes like SplatterCat, then chances are you’ll probably have no idea what they are. Most people couldn’t tell you what Rogue even was: how it looked, how it played, etc.

      Because it would mean that more people get to experience them? A relatively niche genre would be able to grow and have more people talking about it? The developers of those games would make more money?
      I’m not really sure why you’re asking this question.

    One of the best games i have ever played. Very hard but very rewarding at the end. At first i was getting massacred by 2 or 3 enemies, but by the mid game to end game i was using a great sword taking on hordes of enemies. I remember when i took a contract to kill a mini boss in a castle. It took me about one hour to complete it. But on my way back i got ambushed by ghouls or something, and thanks to my overconfidence i took them head on and died. I had to redo the whole mission because you could only save in town. For some reason i loved this feature, while others didn't. I think the reason was how much more immersive the game felt. The danger and the consequences of your actions. Also, the preparation you had to do before every mission. Medicines, herbs and other various consumables. Great game but not for all. The slow development the only major con.

If you're going to lose two hours of progress per death, then you might as well be playing a full-on roguelike. • @MrDelightfulRPG
    @MrDelightfulRPG 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks for taking another look at Stoneshard Splat!
    I like Stoneshard, and it is slowly becoming a better game, though emphasis on the slowly.
    In my own recorded gameplay of the Stoneshard: City of Gold Update, I do a bit of compare/contrast with the old version of the game, and I go through many of the changes.
    I do think the recent map update is nice, though I do miss the possibility of getting lost, as the current, larger map always reveals your location, whereas the old maps did not.
    Also, I should warn people that the early Stoneshard gameplay can be very slow.
    The Stoneshard early game boils down to: 1. Slowly walking back to town to offload loot from your VERY LIMITED grid inventory, 2. Slowly walk back to the inn to save, 3. Slowly walk back to where you initially started so you can gather more herbs in the wood to stuff into your small bag while dodging wolf packs in order to repeat step 1.
    You do that, or dare to risk the wolf packs if you can afford a blade, as Splat did, as not all characters start with one ;(. Which by the way, it is Very Odd for a medieval person to not have a knife, especially a medieval merc, to travel without a blade, especially when they know how to hunt! 🤦
    The oddness of Stoneshard increases when you look and see that Velmir, (the guy Splat picked) starts with 20 leaf shaped, bladed bolts, which are certainly thick and likely sharp enough to skin an animal with. He also has that leaf bladed spear as an awkward 2nd option. It just seems so very odd to me for such a seemingly detail focused game to flub these points. 🤷
    Anyway, Stoneshard is a good game if you like pretty and gritty turn-based RPGs with an eventual path to a completed product. If you have a tolerance for frustration, big lulls in the action, and are patient, it could be a good choice for you. I like it.

      @@ryanclemons1 Yep, I was just glancing at those.
      Some people aren’t currently happy about the state of the latest update, as well as the general state of Stoneshard’s very slow update pace. Patience has clearly run out for some people.
      Now, Stoneshard is tough, and a bloody good looking game, and is pushed by the trailer as gritty and pretty, but the downright Brutal and often Unfair combat difficulty is what most seem to find the most off-putting.
      I also think that the unmentioned slowness and big lulls in the action, as you slowly walk around, back and forth to town, is clearly an unexpected and often unwelcome surprise to many people.☹
      The post Oblivion / Skyrim gaming world does not care much for a design philosophy that removes the option of fast travel.
      So, Stoneshard combines ultra tough combat, with an ultra long time to slowly get back to where you were when the action suddenly and brutally ended.🤦
      I think these devs could learn a bit from Dark Souls / Bloodborne:
      You can make a game hard, but you Must make it relatively quick to get back into the action.
      The campfires / lanterns of those games are nearby the action, so the combat / main draw is also nearby, as is the recovery and the return to the fight, quickly smoothing over any breaks to the gaming flow.
      And Stoneshard’s main problem is that it does NOTHING quickly!
      1. A bedroll on your traveling merc would help, allowing a save at the cost of resource consumption.
      2. A fast travel option, complete with random encounters as creatures move about the map, perhaps pulling you out of it if their hostile and intersect with your path, would help.
      3. An option for much faster movement speed, which MANY other roguelikes have, would help.
      There are MANY things the devs could do, and they should.
      As I said, I like Stoneshard, but for MANY reasons, it is a game for the patient.

    @15:32 I absolutely love that somehow everyone has become aware that the typical, common use of the word "irony" is not technically actually "irony" (in a strict sense, perhaps) and now we're all just a _tiinnnyy_ bit afraid to use that word without a caveat of "idk if that actuall counts" anymore. The pendants have finally made headway in their quest for perpetually perfect diction, we must fight back. Irregardless!
