Wow, that’s some big sky out there! That sunset!!!! 🤩 I hope to be a snowbird someday. I’m thinking that maybe I should get one of those aeropress brewers. I currently use a cold brew concentrate mixed with hot water, but I’m looking for a change.
I have Falken All terrains and have them currently on my SUV but I have had on my Ram trucks. I drive in all kinds of snow and rain as well as off-road in Colorado and all over. But if going for all season tires (no summer tire) need top of the line like Michelin p, firestones or Goodyear especially with a front wheel drive vehicle. I would go with all terrains with mud + snow symbol on that van it will be a lot more sure footed on light off-roading. Falken all terrains have less road noise than other AT tires, but I’ve driven in a couple of feet of snow with ease.
Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places! Is that Yellow Bird a 9.8oz bottle? That's the largest I can find at REI at $6 a bottle. I need a bigger size because I go through it so fast!
This is the 19.6 oz bottle. I’ve been waiting to buy more Yellowbird until I could get one in this larger size. It’s odd how few stores carry the larger size.
The thing you do with the salt, I do the same thing. I am dehydrated 95% of the time. I don't have the pink salt, just the kind you get at the grocery store. I put some in my hand and put my tongue on it. It is so fun to find out that there is another person that does the same things I do. All your videos are wonderful!

Good to see you in warmer climate, although maybe it’s not as warm as you’d like right now. I swear when I see Yellow Bird at the store I’m like Scott, tried it but I’m a spice wimp so none for me. Hope you get some better, quieter tires on a long drive that can make some of us (me) a little batty.

It's funny the life experiences you have that train you for van life. I've been doing outpatient hospice nursing the past almost 3 years. I'm out in the world 10 hours a day and in between patients I find places to park and chart, or even take a nap for my lunch hour. If I were to keep my van in my home town, I'd never be at a loss of where to park. That said, it gives me a great idea for other places, and I also know I can be comfortable in my car for hours. I'm honestly more skeeved out about staying in the middle of nowhere than I am in a city (though not the huge ones, no LA or NY for me thanks). All of this is percolating in my brain while I am willingly stuck here taking care of my mother. I don't wish her dead at all, but when she does go, I'm out. Perhaps while I'm still young enough to do travel nursing, perhaps not. I think I'm around the same age as you, and just working on my health and gathering all the wisdom I can like a little sponge so I'll be ready. If it's while I can still do travel nursing, your rig will be absolutely perfect. Needs to be small enough to still do OP nursing, but large enough to live OUT of. I've been watching your vids over the last couple of days (as I am sure you can tell with all my obsessive comments lol) and they've been SO helpful. Thank you and all the best!
And honey, you drink ALL the coffee you want and if anyone has a problem I'll save you from having to be rude. I'll be rude to them for ya! (HONESTLY. who comes on someone's channel as bitches at them for drinking too much COFFEE?!)
THANKYOU! S.C.V. YOU HAVE SHOWED ME ANOTHER WAY I CAN LIVE WITHOUT PAYING RENT, OR DROWNING IN HOUSE POVERTY PLUS IVE ALWAYS BEEN BY MYSELF SO ITS A NATURAL THING BUT I JUST COULDN"T PUT THIS TOGETHER LIKE YOU DID.
Scar I’ve heard you speak of this yellow bird hot sauce many times. I went on eBay and see that there are two kinds. One is habanero and one is jalapeño. Which one do you by? And you’re right good Lord it is expensive. 19.6 ounce for $21
Oh please don’t buy it from eBay, that’s outrageous! Regular price for the 19.6 oz bottle I bought was $9. Yellowbird makes several flavors. My favorite is the Serrano. REI is a great place to buy Yellowbird. They sell a 2oz travel size bottle. If you don’t like the flavor you picked, then you’re only out a little bit. Some Kroger stores carry Yellowbird, too.
By the way, we now have a Grocery Outlet - affectionately known as Gross Out! it is right on that corner, you'd pass it going to Sue's. With all that wind, it must have been Monday. Brrrr. Oh, ethiopian coffee is usually single origin which means it didn't sit around waiting for other beans and so it is not as moldy. That's why I prefer it. @JTCoffee has a couple of single origin beans, so you may want to check that out.
@Static CamperVan Love those picture shots intro very beautifully. I'm called a snowbird as well 😆I headed to NM from TX to avoid cold nights, yep last night 16° with the wind I screenshot to show my familia. Oh yeah, I seem to ramble. Can you, or did you show how you season your pan? I could've missed it or haven't caught up to that one. Pretty purple flower
16° is a little chilly. I have shown how I season my carbon steel pan. I’ll probably do another video on it as I re-season the pan on a semi-regular basis
I really in joyed your video thankyou Scott I hope you slept better after your shower have a great week and weekend be safe out there here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
It's been a weird winter - cold, but when it's freezing, no precip. When there's precip, it's too warm for snow, so my weeds are taking off like I was in the Midwest! Crazy. In Yucca Valley, we have Sue's Natural Food on highway 62 just west of 247 (oldwoman springs road) It's on the north side of the highway. If you ever need water and power while here, don't hesitate to moochdock at our house. I think you're smelling the Creosote bushes. We've grown to love it but yeah. Up here in YV it's usually a few degrees cooler than JT because we're quite a bit higher. Ground work is great coffee.
great vid. I think the aeropress cleans up a lot more easily than the french press but I find the coffee too strong - I need to take some time to do what you've done and find out how much water to add at the end. what was in that coffee? it looked interesting texture and made quite a sound as you poured it into the aeropress, was it just very coarse ground? and whoever gave you the idea for that shower - that's amazing!
There are a number of recipes here on TH-cam for AeroPress brewing. Changing up how you brew can make a dramatic difference in the final cup. For instance, AeroPress recommends a two minute brew time where I use a 4 minute brew. Nothing was in the coffee I brewed. My microphone can accentuate some sounds. Generally I grind my coffee a little finer for an AeroPress brew.
No, I don’t have room for one. But also, vacuum sealing coffee hasn’t proven to be effective. As soon as coffee id roasted, it begins to lose flavor. Best to use it quickly
I just got my tires🚗 for my pro master city for 106.00ea GoodYear 65k warranty @ Walmart and purchase the extended 10k warranty for all location. I usually go American tire or a well known auto shop however prices have doubled.
"...somebody sunk down to their axle in sand." I raise my hand. But, hey, there were shallow tire tracks through the spot so it should've been okay, right? Nope. Good thing I have a proper shovel.
You’ll scoff at me for even suggesting this..but when I don’t feel like grinding the coffee beans and brewing the coffee I took a cue from my late grandmother and keep freeze dried coffee around and it’s not bad at all. I’m currently using the Folgers brand “Noir”. I like it and it saves you a little bit of hassle. Keep a jar of it stashed in your rig. You might find it handy. It’s good for a late night cup. Cheers!
I bought an AeroPress due to watching your videos and I’m a black expresoo lover, but now that I have one I can’t find the video of yours where you show how you like to use it, and I see the sense of doing it the way I kinda remember you using yours. Can you direct me to that video where you demonstrate how you use it but only if it doesn’t take much time to find it please? Thanks Scott.
I prefer Discount Tire because they are in all the areas I’ve ever traveled. It makes taking care of warranty issues a breeze. Plus they do free air fill-ups. Those are nice when it’s cold outside.
I was wondering how long it was going to take you to get down here to the desert. Smart move. I stayed at that spot last week and recognize those rigs. The only problem with the other side of the 10 fwy is the spotty cell reception. I love that area along Box Canyon Rd but like you said , beware of the soft sand. Are you planning to head to Quartzsite?
We probably shouldn’t even mention Box Canyon, if everyone knew how much prettier it is on that side, it will fill up! Haha Believe it or not, I have no plans whatsoever.
@@StaticCamperVan I’m the same way, my plans are up in the air. I literally almost drove to that spot today because there’s a free dump and water station just up the road and last time I was there I drove through JTNP and there was no charge. But, we’ll keep that to ourselves as well.
Whenever you want a nice hot shower and in the Bay Area, please let me know. We allow to have a guess at our gym. They also serve coffee as well - all you can drink. They also have hot tubs, steam room and sauna as well.
I'm a little late to the party here, but I was hoping you'd drive or walk a bit farther down. I may well have been there when you were. I prefer to go farther west on that road closer to that "butte" hill (by that abandoned white car). Tends to be fewer folks. It's such a great location with great hiking on the other side of the burm. I've been there about 4 times this winter. Side note, I've noticed a couple people that have been in the same spots all winter, so I feel that they don't enforce the 14 day rule. Anyway, maybe run into you one of these days.
I did walk way down to the West a couple of times. But I parked close to Cottonwood to stay on the legal area. It’s far to get to the next legal spot to the west. I also watch the 14 day rule since I’ve had a number of people tell me that they are waiting for any reason to turn me in. Haha
@@StaticCamperVan I don't know where the boundary is as Ive seen no signs indicating where the line is. I have parked as far as the western edge of that flat topped sand hill/dune with no worries. The rangers have come by several times and no problem.
Your skillet looks like mine lol! I have practically the same one. Mine might be a half inch wider. I once watched this guy who would take Lodge cast iron skillets and smooth the bottoms. He showed me an important fact. Its not the seasoning that makes it non stick its heat and oil. He took that unseasoned skillet he ground down and fried an egg on it, slid it around and flipped it. After that I stopped worrying about seasoning.
@@StaticCamperVan Not the exact one. I don't think yours is available any more but it is the mineral B by Debyer. You were the influence for me getting it lol!
@@StaticCamperVan Right. I don't know what the difference is other than beeswax or something but its good enough regardless. I have a stainless triclad for acidic stuff.
Yes, I’ve actually mentioned that several times in the past. REI sells 2oz travel sized bottles. It’s a good way to try out Yellowbird without committing to a full size bottle. Also REI sells seasonal flavors of Yellowbird, most stores do not.
I’ve yet to cook inside my van. Plan on doing so. I am concerned however that food odors will stick to everything inside the van..does this happen to you and if so how do you get rid of food odors? Thanks!
Very rarely. I have such good ventilation that odors don’t accumulate. On the odd occasion that I do get some lingering cooking odors, I burn some incense
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks! I was curious but not curious enough to buy any. Thanks for assuaging my curiousity. (It is freezing cold in FL these days brrrr.)
0 degrees C is the freezing temp of water. I'd say its safe to assume THATS COLD! People who say its not must have anti-freeze in their veins... and brains.

Hi, I always wondered have you ever encountered with bear and how do you stay safe from bear when you are camping in your car? Much appreciated from Australia 🙏🙏🙏
The only bear encounter’s I’ve had were way back when I was a kid while camping in Yosemite. These days I don’t get very far into the backcountry. So bear sightings are rare.
When i first moved to CA, (L.A.) I loved it but before too long i started disliking it because of the traffic. I solved it by moving to San Fran. Hahaha. I would love this but I’d be too afraid to alone🤔🥴. I live about 5 miles from the Molalla Forrest Corridor ( Oregon) . It is beautiful. I’m familiar with the area etc but….. even in the daytime I’m uneasy being alone. Too many flakey people out there. ⚠️Scott, TH-cam is doing a huge disservice to its channel creators: nevermind zero notifications, I haven't even seen one of your videos pop up on my feed for ages and I'm subscribed with the bell! This isn't the first video that this is happened to me this week, and I realize there's a bunch more - for some reason all the camping and Van life channels that I'm subscribed to!!! PS: even worse, I just went to double-check that I have the bail and somehow I have been I'm subscribed! I've heard of this happening, in just a couple of days ago in another video I was watching, remember we're saying they discovered they'd been unsubscribed 😠😢 The first part of my post still stands, because there are many channels that have disappeared from my feed!
Sorry to hear that. It’s pretty common, unfortunately. The only thing that I could think to do was to commit to having a video every Saturday. I also set up a Playlist with all of my videos so that you can scroll down through to see if you have missed a video: th-cam.com/play/PL9PWzpL1cZIHAST4lDsBmmENA2Dil_tRh.html

You got out of the soggy Redwoods just in time, California has gotten hammered since the 1st. Enjoy the 🌞
Haven’t seen much sun yet
❤Wow Gorgeous Sunset, Beautiful ❤️
Thank you for sharing your day. :)
✨💫🏜️💫✨
Sunset Beautiful!
Wow, beautiful sunset
👋 Scott 😊
Glad you are ok😊
I love my aropress. You're right, even cheaper coffee tastes okay.
I actually prefer the YellowBird Jalapeno version. Thanks for turning me on to that brand. Thankfully Ralphs has it in-store.
Oh, that's good to know.
Nice interlude
@Static CamperVan Love those picture shots intro very beautifully. I'm called a snowbird as well 😆I headed to NM from TX to avoid cold nights, yep last night 16° with the wind I screenshot to show my familia. Oh yeah, I seem to ramble. Can you, or did you show how you season your pan? I could've missed it or haven't caught up to that one. Pretty purple flower
16° is a little chilly. I have shown how I season my carbon steel pan. I’ll probably do another video on it as I re-season the pan on a semi-regular basis
Your breakfast looks great❤👍🏻
I really in joyed your video thankyou Scott I hope you slept better after your shower have a great week and weekend be safe out there here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
👍🏼 Thanks Mike
Wow, you pop so hard against that sunset that it almost looks fake.
But yea, nothing quite like the desert.
Thanks Liz. I’m not in the area anymore but I appreciate your offer.
Generally I grind my coffee a little finer for an AeroPress brew.
have you tried using a vacuum seal storage for your coffee? it might help to keep it fresh
Good deal on Goodyear's
"...somebody sunk down to their axle in sand." I raise my hand. But, hey, there were shallow tire tracks through the spot so it should've been okay, right? Nope. Good thing I have a proper shovel.
Ah yes, I remember reading a story about that on your blog. I don’t have a proper shovel. Haha
Cheers!
Less than a tea spoon full per cup. It’s strong.
I absolutely will not scoff at you for drinking instant coffee. But I would scoff if you served it to me. Haha. Drink what you like! That’s what I do.
thanks
I bought an AeroPress due to watching your videos and I’m a black expresoo lover, but now that I have one I can’t find the video of yours where you show how you like to use it, and I see the sense of doing it the way I kinda remember you using yours. Can you direct me to that video where you demonstrate how you use it but only if it doesn’t take much time to find it please? Thanks Scott.
Here’s one of the AeroPress videos: th-cam.com/video/xziwMn5bsjo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_Hze5eEKpnPVeUyv
i've got to eat before i watch your videos
coffee is brewing
look up Tire Rack
I prefer Discount Tire because they are in all the areas I’ve ever traveled. It makes taking care of warranty issues a breeze. Plus they do free air fill-ups. Those are nice when it’s cold outside.
Yes , that's a good idea
Blown engines and sinking sand.. my dreams of hitting the road ...seems shaky now...lots to learn......thanks I guess....Mary
Haha
Believe it or not, I have no plans whatsoever.
Thanks dude
nice!
You can get a map or view the areas on an app. I prefer using an app that works off GPS.
Was that a short section of Jesse Gallagher music in the interlude? He does some cool music.
Yes that song is from Jesse Gallagher
I really appreciate your thriftiness so many you tube videos buy this buy that with no thought of money that’s not me so thank you
That dampness in the NW seems colder at 20 than when it is low humidity at 20.
Makes my bones ache
@@StaticCamperVan yep and the best remedy other than son is a warm wood fire.
You should buy what you like. Life is too short to neglect life’s little pleasures.
It's been awhile since you made your homemade taco shells.
Yes. I have found Trader Joe’s is much less expensive versus making my own. I should make some for practice sake though
Is this the pan you have?: th-cam.com/video/UsmtB0r-sBQ/w-d-xo.html
@@StaticCamperVan Not the exact one. I don't think yours is available any more but it is the mineral B by Debyer. You were the influence for me getting it lol!
Mine is the Carbone not the Mineral B. But they are somewhat similar
@@StaticCamperVan Right. I don't know what the difference is other than beeswax or something but its good enough regardless. I have a stainless triclad for acidic stuff.
Scott - holy cow. Just trying to be helpful, OK? Check your audio on this one. My windows RATTLED! LOL!! Thanks!
I just googled it and yellow bird serrano hot sauce is sold at REI. that’s very strange to me. Is that true?
Yes, I’ve actually mentioned that several times in the past. REI sells 2oz travel sized bottles. It’s a good way to try out Yellowbird without committing to a full size bottle. Also REI sells seasonal flavors of Yellowbird, most stores do not.
My wife always tells me to clean as I go. I still wind up with a mess.
You have a smart wife
@@StaticCamperVan She says thank you!
Lots of pollen on those creosote bushes...
True
I’ve yet to cook inside my van. Plan on doing so. I am concerned however that food odors will stick to everything inside the van..does this happen to you and if so how do you get rid of food odors? Thanks!
Very rarely. I have such good ventilation that odors don’t accumulate. On the odd occasion that I do get some lingering cooking odors, I burn some incense
Does pink salt taste the same as regular salt? I generally get low sodium salt. Never tried pink.
Yes, Pink Salt is regular sea salt, in a sense. It has lots of minerals but no real difference in flavor
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks! I was curious but not curious enough to buy any. Thanks for assuaging my curiousity. (It is freezing cold in FL these days brrrr.)
Did you find some good tires?
I’ll have a video about the tires up at some point
0 degrees C is the freezing temp of water. I'd say its safe to assume THATS COLD! People who say its not must have anti-freeze in their veins... and brains.
I vote brains
That area really is awesome! Hope you also got to enjoy the park! :) Not sure if you're at all interested in Baja, but... if you're going there, pls hit me up! There's also a rather big van meetup happening soonish.. :)
Baja would be a dream. Not sure when I will be able to go, though.
Hope your travels are as awesome as they look.
@@StaticCamperVan I really hope you can fulfill that dream some time soon! It´s not always easy here, but we never felt unsafe. I bet it's nothing you would have any troubles navigating! :)
I eat yellow bird sauce because of this channel and I drink sanka coffee (don’t hate me)
I meant to write Scott. So sorry
No worries. You’re writing to the world’s worst speller
How do you decide where to go?
Weather is usually the top priority. For the last thirty some years I’ve had a list of places that looked interesting.

When i first moved to CA, (L.A.) I loved it but before too long i started disliking it because of the traffic. I solved it by moving to San Fran. Hahaha. I actually have a picture of myself (7mo pregnant, carrying my son Joshua) standing in front of a huge Joshua Tree cactus. Funny, huh? (His name came later.)
Haha. Thanks for the chuckle
Come to Quartzite ❤ everyone else is here too lol
Yes, it does look like everyone is there!
I’m ex law enforcement so I have a weapon etc but I’m still terrified out in the woods alone🥴
Do you ever get scared..? Have you had any bad situations/anyone bother you..?
I’m headed to my daughters in UKIAH in Feb. I’m going to check out Ferndale. I saw it in your last video and I will be just a few miles away. I’m so glad I saw the video. I’m loving your channel and your gentle spirt ✌🏼.
*subscribed and….. I let all the commercials play all the way through. I heard that helps your channel…? Hope so🙂✌🏼
I grew up in a very dangerous city. Nowadays, I travel to and hang around safer areas. I don’t spend much time thinking about things that are out of my control. Humboldt County is very safe. I hope you enjoy your trip. Thanks for the help. View time on videos and ads is extremely helpful.
@ where did you grow up..? I grew up in LA so I understand what your saying🙂👍🏽
I’m from SoCal
