- During my trip to the Fort Worth Zoo I noticed this elephant apparently really wanted to break this stick. From the looks of the other one it seems they like chewing on the pieces of it.

SnakeHelah Productions That is just fcking stupid. First of all: lions rarely attack elephants and if they do, they don't succeed 9/10 times. Crocodiles do NOT attack elephants and never succeed. Other wild predators? you name one.
And finding food is just part of nature and completly normal to them. And diseases rarely fell an elephant. Its like saying living in a ''luxirous''prison is alright and you would enjoy it because you don't have to do anything yourself. You wouldn't last a month.
I don't think all animals should be released from zoo's because in most zoo's their lifes are pretty similair to the lifes in the wild. But animals like elephants and dolphins for example are pretty fcking smart. They know what is going on, they do have most emotions that humans experience too, they can and probably are bored to death.

I do not like the idea of keeping such intelligent wild animals in zoos, but if one of my friends asks if I want to go, then im going to the zoo. I feel like a horrible hypocrite.
I love animals and keep a large number of reptiles but if its between seeing an animal like this or not seeing it at all, I will most of the time go to see it.

I'm not religious but animals need to be treated way better than how they are treated now. They are beings too.. with emotions! They just... weren't as lucky to evolve as fast as we did. They are like our slow cousin or something. They should be treated with the same respect.

I just find it sad something so beautiful and intelligent has to live locked up behind walls just so we can be reminded what an elephant really is.
On the bright side, the fact that we have a stable population locked up means that we will be able to repopulate them eventually in the wild if they are to go extinct there, also in most of the AZA certified Zoos in the US elephants are given very frequent enrichment activities, meaning that activities such as that are not stress induced.
So sad it can't get parasites and fight for survival every day. Medical care and shelter. I'm sure it would rather be in the wild where the best case scenario is you get too old/injured to eat anymore and either starve to death or get eaten by something.
Nature is brutal.
Friendly reminder all aza accredited zoos are geared towards education and conservation, as well as the individuals wellbeing, not entertainment

Philadelphia zoo had four elephants on less than a quarter acre.
It was a disgrace.

Shit happens and we try to pretend there some form of altruism without thinking of poachers urban sprawl and natives use of elephants. Have you seen what Indians and Thais do with there elephants. To you it's a lovable animal to a farmer in Africa or Asia. Eating crops stomping villages, loss of habitat, ivory profits and zoo captivity may also save animal populations ex Tigers
