    I’ve been enjoying your videos and perspective into the hobby and to find out you’re a fellow Mississippian made it that much cooler. I’m on the coast. Keep up the content

      I feel like so few of my subscribers are from my state! That’s awesome, brother. I’m originally from Kalamazoo, MI, but now I’m up in NW Mississippi. Went to grad school at Mississippi State and met my wife there. I love it down here. Mild winters, nice people, and the best dang food in the country! But we need more reefers!

    Clean wire management!

      Haha those wires are pretty unclean for me right now. Too many loose ropes in those bunches. But Velcro wire manager strips show up later this week, and then I’ll tighten everything down really good.

    this is hightech stuff, but for a nano and beginners I always add two heaters in it. if one dies the other works... Tho still nog 100% guaranty

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh it’s a brilliant move. Especially if you can find two heaters small enough to tuck into a rear chamber. I’ve got two heaters on one of my nanos. The other, I just couldn’t find two small enough.

    What temperature do you set your eheim heater with the inkbird?
    I only have a heater set on 82F with inkbird auto shut off at 78F. Come to think of it, is it bad for inkbird to cut off power when heater is still actively heating?

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep I have to Eheim on 82. I figure that’s good enough as a failsafe to the failsafe lol. I doubt these heaters are bothered by that. They’re just “lights and clockwork”, so to speak. Simple on/off tools to get the job done. In fact, it may actually prevent wear in the heater’s internal on/off mechanism, since it doesn’t even need to disengage on its own. All speculative, but I’m not worried.

    What would you do different regarding the Apex?

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d take the time to learn GHL. As I understand it, it takes quite a bit of getting used to. I was intimidated and went Neptune. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Apex. It does the job. But all the gear I’ve bought for it honestly looks/feels cheaply made…because it is. For the price, that’s a disappointment. I like well-built products.

    I have a 80 gallon do you think just 2 heaters and the ink bird controller would work? can't really afford the neptune apex system

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fortunately, you don’t need an Apex at all, to have a great tank. It makes some things convenient, but isn’t necessary in any way. I’d roll with dual heaters, and an Inkbird, or really any heater controller that’s reputable. I’ve had good luck with Inkbird, but a couple of my subscribers said theirs gave out on them. None of these heater controllers is super expensively built, but we work with what’s available 😂

      @@kalamazoo_reefer Thanks yeah hopefully one day i can get a apex system but for now no lol also how often do you replace your eheim heaters?

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Marshy2020 Well, I go every two years on those, purely because I’ve never had one die. I still am paranoid about them dying, because I know they’re not “high end” equipment. They’re also dirt cheap. So every couple years, I swap in new units. But by no means do I think changing out heaters every single year, like some people do, is necessary.

    Once again... an awesome video...as for the INKbird...bro, I have had nothing but bad luck with them...shot a video and sent it to INK bird of it malfunctioning and they replaced it. But even more, I found myself continuously calibrating the INKBIRD, because it will constantly fall out of sync on both of my tanks. So I went to BN-Link (The same concept as INKbird)...have a Hygger as an emergency one though th-cam.com/video/KqDtEJinxXA/w-d-xo.html

      I’ve not had that bad luck, but I’d be FURIOUS if I did! Definitely keeping this alternative in the back of my mind for the future.

    Be careful of the ink birds, the low quality relays they use generally fail on..... If you hear the clicky-clicky from relays in your temp controller it is the wrong solution and anything with a mechanical relay should not be used for backup/safety cut offs. The ink bird will fail ON long before even the cheapest heater every fails, let alone failing on.....
    The only problem with the Helio is the terrible garbage grade metal they call "titanium" going in you water. The better way to do this is a reptile heat mat under the sump and keep the 110/240v out of your water.....

    • @kalamazoo_reefer
      @kalamazoo_reefer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude…a heat mat under the sump is so cool to think about. Though I’d be furious if it died, and I had to drain and lift the sump to swap it out 😂 Still, you’re probably right about the Inkbird. Can’t imagine they have very expensive internals. That’s why I’ve got so many layers of paranoid failsafe mechanisms.
